Went there with my friend there. Food was okay, but wouldn’t call it delicious. Service could have been better if not the rush. Without asking they took away my dish, which I only took a couple of spoons from it. Only because they thought I finished like my friend, who clearly emptied the plate

Pretty decent Cantonese dim sum, and with very fast service. It’s in a touristy part of town so don’t expect to get out of here cheaply, but I don’t think the food will let you down. I was the only non-chinese person here during the lunch rush which I always consider as a good sign.

I didn’t get a chance to try the food, only popping in on a quest for watermelon bubble tea. This place was recommended by some fellow elites when I mentioned I was looking for such bubble tea, and they did a nice job of making the search successful. Good location, looking forward to popping back in for a bite some time.

Don’t be surprised how dirty and unorganised the restaurant is when you walk in and climb up the narrow stairway, there is more surprise waiting for you when you walk into the loo. I am Korean and I know there are many hidden jewel restaurants in Seoul that looks bit dodgy but serve most amazing food. Unfortunately, Café de Hong Kong was not the case. Low sanitation standards with bad food. No, I would never go back to this place.

I went here strictly for bubble tea, based on other reviews. It’s pretty bad for that, but not the worst I’ve tried. I had the hot black tea with bubbles. The tapioca was way overcooked/soaked(to the point of being soggy instead of chewy), and the wait was 15 minutes. Others with me tried the almond milk version, where the powder wasn’t even sufficiently mixed. Overall, I’d avoid, unless you haven’t had much bubble tea and want to just try it with your meal.

Surprisingly good, I would give it a 3.5 star if I could. It’s not amazing, but it’s cheap, big portions, good quality and the staff is also quite nice. I am not too keen on the decoration, but the place is far much better than it looks. We ordered braised noodles with chicken and others with beef and prawn dumplings with two soft drinks and the bill was 20£. They have an extense menu of bubble teas(my next time will try them) and the desserts look interesting too. Ah, and you have plenty choices of food, don’t worry.

It’s convenient, it’s reasonably priced, and it’s open ’til 11pm. Also, they staff are very outspoken about what you should order which is pretty great if, like me, you tend to wander in at 10:45 after working a billion hours and are too fried to make decisions.

Well its the best bubble tea I have found so far in London which means I’m like a starving man in the desert drinking brackish water from a rusty tin can. To be fair, Café de Hong Kong could be AMAZING. Their boba/tapioca pearls/whatever the balls are called out here are perfect in texture. Just slightly chewy little balls like gifts from heaven. In my experience(whatever that is worth) getting the boba right is the hardest part. Then, once they have nailed the hardpart somehow they blow what I thought was the easy part? The tea itself is overly sweetened and the tea flavor is not nearly strong enough. Come on man, you are ruining something beautiful here. The slight bitterness of the tea is supposed to be balanced by the milk with just a little bit of sweetener. As it stands, I still go to Café de Hong Kong because i haven’t found better yet. But after I’ve had my bubble tea, I go back to my hotel and cry myself to sleep in the dark. Bonus points if you read that verbal diarrhea of a first sentence in this review and thought«well this review is bullshit, tin can’t rust». Also, apologies, i just think brackish is a funny sounding word.

Get the hawker noodles(with ho fun)! Finally, some legit broth and noodles. Come here if you want authentic casual HK food. Don’t expect overly attentive service but they are quite competent(wet wipes magically appeared 30 sec after I started eating my chicken wings). Veggies are not their strong suit but fried rice was great as well.

Better than what we’ve got in the States, that’s for sure. Insofar as authenticity is concerned they’ve earned my respect — their menu steers entirely clear of the mainstream rubbish incongruent with what is typically served in café-diners in Hong Kong. I can also attest to the freshness of their ingredients, for the most part. The flavor of the octopus balls and wonton in my soup noodles came forward boldly and certainly did not taste of freezer burn. The same can be said of the sliced squid served separately with black beans and white rice. Pairing all that with their house chilli oil absolutely made my day.

Food-wise, I would perhaps have been inclined to give this place 3 stars, although it is also fair to say that I have definitely experienced better.(Part of the problem here might be that the veggie-selection is rather limited; food might be better if you eat meat.) But due to the rather bad service(which was not particularly friendly, one meal was brought out much later than the other, and I had to ask for my change back after having waited for about 10mins in vain for them to bring the change) I decided to give this place 2 stars. I don’t think I will be back anytime soon.

Cheap and relatively filling Hong Kong style diner/restaurant. No flexibility apparently on the part of staff to add/remove items, which leaves the number of vegetarian/vegan options very limited. The food we ordered was relatively tasty, but nothing stellar. This is a place to fill up cheaply near Soho/Chinatown, not a place to sit down for a long relaxed evening. Service was lackluster: they no only forgot one of the two meals ordered, but also the(substantial) change from the bill. Bottom-line: A solid three, but nothing more.

If you are a Londoner and you want a decent meal, the general rule is the further away from a tube station you get the better quality food you’re going to get. In the case of Café De Hing Kong, this isn’t true. You could stumble out of Leicester Square tube and fall into this place. You’ll be please to hear that if that doesn’t happen to you, you might actually get a decent meal. I was take here by a friend of mine, Yat Young Chan. He know’s his stuff when it comes to Chinatown. I think this helped with my experience actually. He ordered in Cantonese, requested things that were on the non-English menu that I couldn’t understand and introduced me to bubble tea. Oh yes, Yat and Café De Hong Kong burst my bubble tea cherry. Since those fabulous tapioca pearls hit my mouth I haven’t looked back. You expect to be dining by someone elses elbows and smell slightly of sweat and food when you come out, but these are all good thing. Great things in fact. I’ll be back, and not just for the tea.

Dinner here on 3.9.10. Food = delicious. We tried the fuzhou fish balls, close to what my folks make but not really as fishy and missing delicious savoriness. BBQ combo plate was great: soy sauce chicken wing to die for, salted egg(B loved it), two pieces of BBQ pork ribs, and a few orange dyed delicious bits of heaven known as squid or some other same shellfish. :D Our drinks, I tried their passionfruit with tapioca/boba ZOMG sooo addicting. His honeydew melon juice was good but did not have sustaining power.:P as he tried to steal mine… Service = spotty. Some servers were more friendly than others; some were more helpful than others. Décor = diner with weird seating arrangement, as in, they failed the test to put in booth seats properly… oh well. Prices = very reasonable for the portions.

I love Café de Hong Kong — generally brings me memories of Hong Kong — from the atmosphere, noisy service and range of foods. Today was no exception on the memories and atmosphere front, but the food was a slight letdown. I had my usual choice — hawker noodles with beef brisket and turnip in a beef brisket soup, which came out hot and tasty. However, I don’t think it was as good as it normally is — the soup was not as flavoured and the noodles seemed a bit stuck together. My opinion might have been a little off since I wasn’t very, very hungry this evening. My hubby had the char siu and roast pork rice, which he seemed to enjoy — the roast pork was very crispy. The portion looked a little on the small size to me, but I think suited our appetites this afternoon. My letdown today was the soya milk, which I asked for hot. Although it was serve piping hot, it had a distinctly odd taste, which really didn’t satisfy my craving for soya milk. Oh well. Café de Hong Kong served its purpose — a quick, inexpensive and filling meal.

I love love love love their Ice Pearl Drinks or otherwise known as Chinese Bubble Tea. They come in a range of different flavours although I would recommend the Mango and Strawberry. For those who have not experienced the wonder of the drink, it’s basically a smoothies with tapioca pearls that taste like little gummy sweets that you suck through a giant straw, simple yet effective. They cost £3.50. The food is also good. As a vegetarian they have plenty to choose from but I would recommend the curry, it’s very very spicy so if that’s not your thing go for one of the noodle dishes. Meals cost around £5. The staff tend to be quite unfriendly and ignore you. On the occasions I have been there I always have to keep on getting the attention of the staff to order or pay.

Seeing Corean Chilli next door massacre the English spelling of Korean, it’s funny to see Café de Kong Kong mis-use French in an attempt to look cool. Fortunately, you won’t encounter any attempts to fuse French and Chinese cuisine here but instead, it’s a high-volume, reasonably cheap Chinese eatery serving Anglo-Canto fare with the odd bit of British food thrown in. I eat here for their hawker soup noodles, which reminds me of a similar dish back home where you can custom-make your soup noodles. You choose the accompaniments, which includes ‘only eat if you’ve been brought up in the culture’ delights such as pig’s skin and intestine as well as more conventional things like beefballs. There is also a nice range of fresh fruit juices, which can be taken away as a little treat, by the way. In case the owner is reading this, I think you wanted your sign to say Café Hong Kong.
