The comedy at 9pm is free! which is sweet, even when it’s improv. To be fair, the improv dudes were actually pretty good. Also the beer isn’t really more expensive than usual despite the free cover to the show.

Great pub all around with the added bonus of the free comedy show. Estuvo bueno. Divertido aunque ninguno increíble. Mucha improv e insult comedy a los asistentes. La comida del bar un 10, comí un Steak and Ale Pie que mamadera. Me clavé varias birras y unos whiskys. All in all a great experience. Y hasta tiene un patio con mesitas re groso. La zona esa de Angel me re gusto realmente. Volveré y seré millones.

The big plus to the Camden Head is Camden Comedy! The pub is pretty standard. Friendly bar staff, unfriendly clientele. People seemed to be in their own groups, so maybe not the best place to mingle. There is an outside terrace with heat lamps, but this closes at 10. I’d go back for the comedy, but I wouldn’t seek this pub out on its own. Accessibility note: the toilets are down in the basement, no lift.

This place is so solidly average that I’ve neglected to review it despite having been there many times. The beer selection is not horrible. You can find some good ales and typically some local IPA or lager on tap, as well. The food is alright. It’s a trusty place to stop off for a bit, but nobody seems to spend the whole evening here.

Just sat down for a drink on my way to do some antique shopping. Ordered a semi-dry apple cider and the staff was really friendly and helpfull. They have a very nice garden to sit in and watch both people and pretty flower arrangements. The cider was great but i didn’t see any of the customers eating food so maybe this is a place best suited for drinks and friends?

I’ve been going to the Camden head for a couple of years now — to both perform at a few open mic gigs as well as to watch. Love the guys that organise Angel Comedy — always a great crowd as well as line up. It gets super crowded so if you want to get a seat, make sure you get there at least 30 minutes before the show starts.

The Camden Head was a fortunate find on a sunny summer day last year after a lot of sightseeing and walking(!) in Islington. So we were happy to snug in a corner in the beergarden, being served very quickly, enjoying a tasty, fresh and cool pint and a delicious veggie burger. The crowd around us was very relaxed, quite a mix of locals, after work parties and the odd tourists. We came back several times, ordering bar food and a pint or two from of their delicious range of beers and ales. The staff kept up being tremendously friendly and delivering fast service. The atmosphere was great at all times.

Not to be confused with the OTHER Camden Head(the one actually in Camden), this pub is situated on the sickeningly adorable Camden Passage, just off of Upper Street in Angel. Upstairs at the Camden Head, they do FREE standup comedy every night of the week. I’ve been a handful of times and it’s quite hit or miss — I’ve seen some EXCELLENT comedy, and I’ve also seen some crap stuff. It’s free though, so what can I say? If you’re coming here for the comedy, especially on a Friday or a Saturday night, I’d suggest showing up EARLY(like 45mins early) for any show. It fills up fast, and the queue begins around an hour before the show, and ends up going out the door and even onto the street. If you’re near the back of the queue, you’ll either end up standing for the entire show(blech!) or not getting in at all. All in all, it’s definitely worth a visit, as sometimes some really fantastic comedians play here. The handsome pub itself isn’t bad either. Good beer selection and standard pub fare.

Hoped to get some lunch in Camden passage but unfortunately The Elk in the Woods was full and there was also a huge queue at the Breakfast Club. Thought the Camden Head would be safe enough option. The aroma of sick that filled the bar was probably a clue that we weren’t in for fine dining, and a pretty workmanlike meal followed. To be fair my chicken and mushroom pie was OK but the ladies agave their sandwiches the thumbs down. I may be back fort he lauded comedy club — hopefully it’ll be as «funny» as the food.

The best of the 3 bars I was able to visit before closing time at 11pm(standard fare for British pubs), still a yet-another-British pub décor, but this time, with a much better beer selection for the cheapest prices of the night. A younger crowd than either York or Nags, I don’t know if I’d go back to Angel for pub crawling, but Camden would probably be the first I’d hit up.

Camden Head keeps it real! The location is on Camden passage which is not in Camden but in Islington, an interesting back street with antique shops and cafes off Upper St. The Camden Head is a classic, proud London pub with traditional interior and reasonable range of beers on tap and I have a soft spot for it. They do pub food, not gastrofood(but haven’t tried). Large central bar with etched glass panels and dark wood with booth tables around the sides. The bar staff are on the ball and friendly and efficient. There’s a decent sized courtyard outdoor area with tables that backs onto Camden passage. Gets crowded since the space isn’t huge but it’s not as manic as some of the pubs in the vicinity but I find that the crowd is always a good, pleasant mix. A big added attraction is their upstairs free comedy club on Thursday and Saturday(not always on so check) which has some great stand up comics in a more intimate space… and it’s free. Just buy a pint or two to help support it.

Ok, so I may have a thing for beer gardens. Camden Head is a fairly standard pub on upper street. Cool décor, good beer, not expensive. But nothing out of this world. The pub is also fairly small, so you are all crammed into the space, hoping to catch the eye of the bartender. Many people come here for a pint before heading out to bars and clubs on upper street, so you will rarely find a sparse crowd. Fortunately, there is an outside patio with tables, chairs and and overhang. This is what keeps me coming back, because being inside with that many people is unbearable. Alright so I definitely have a thing for beer gardens.

I’ve spent a few evenings at this place. I think it’s one of the best places to go when you’re on a night out and want to pop by for a beer or two. It’s quite convenient location to the rest of what Angel has to offer. There is also a beer garden which is really nice when it’s nice out. The only problem with the good ol Camden head is that it gets wicked crowded to the point where it’s a struggle to find a seat anywhere in the place which sucks. However, if you are able to find a spot to sit with your mates it can be quite an enjoyable experience and a fun one too.

Always a stop when out for a few pints in the area. After walking through the small Dickens-esque alleyway with its shops and antique sellers, you’ll find this pub on the nestled away in the corner. The décor on the inside definitely has me coming back as well. The bar is very large and there are usually three ‘tenders working to serve up your beverage of choice. The bar seems a bit too large for the space though as there is little room between the booths and bar. You will likely have to push through to find some standing room in the back or else you will constantly have other customers pushing past you. The pub will inevitably be full on the weekends to house both passerbys or a young crowd having a pint before heading out on Upper St. As such, don’t expect to find a booth open. When the weather is nice, the nice outdoor seating area which will be the first to fill up in the summer. There is also an upstairs area with more seating. This also functions as space to hold events, such as the amateur stand-up that we once attended. I highly recommend popping into this pub on a rainy day, but abide by the rules of a pub crawl — one drink and on to the next.

We have pondered into the Camden Head on numerous occasions while frolicking around on Upper Street. There is something nice about being in a pub that hasn’t changed it’s décor since the Ottoman Empire. We have included this in many of our pub crawls and we just keep coming back for more. When it’s warm, this patio is something to see. Young hip crowd drinking and talking about life — one of my favorite hobbies. Tucked away on a side street, I like the it’s on Upper Street but then it’s not thing about the place. Went for standup comedy one night on the second floor. I must say this was a treat due to it being my first live introduction to the thing called British humor. The two were great, and the raunchiness increased and the humor soiled downwards. Good place for a drink, a laugh, and sometimes a cry.

Came here on New Years Day for Lunch with Ruiz and others, ended up staying till 11pm. Good jukebox. Helpful staff. Nice beer garden. Good location. Food was very average, standard pub stuff at best and not a lot of choice.

Great down-to-earth pub at the end of the otherwise overly-trendy camden passage. The kind of place where everyone feels welcome: from German students watching a comedy show, via old gents sipping ale and arguing on the back of a napkin about the great fire of London, to people shooting a film in the beer garden. Decent staff, usual range of drinks, and an upstairs room that plays host to a roster of comedy events. The place has a ‘ye olde’ décor(etched glass, polished wood), not to attract tourists, but just because it’s a pub that has got it right and lasted. Long may it continue. It also belongs to the Islington pub ‘perfume beer’ secret society, occasionaly serving a pint of No. 5 instead of standard lager.

Great place on a nice day. The charming tables on the patio are great and the spillover onto the street when it is packed is decent, because you are on Camden Passage as opposed to a frequented sidewalk. I walked by there the other day as it was drizzling and noticed they had a covering over the outdoor seating – nice touch. I did make the mistake though of ordering the Malbec. Why o why do I order wine at a pub? It was a painful glass. I need to learn beer in pubs and wine in wine bars…

I love sitting in the old façade of this pub in the beer garden in the evening. Its always buzzing and full of activity, and positively bustling on the weekend. The charming little street near it, Camden Passage, is full of lovely shops to browse and an antique market on the weekends that adds to its flavor. I love the contrast of lots of modern hip boutiques with this ramshackle sprawling old pub, almost like it can’t help itself. Its charming on the inside too, with original fittings, old slogans and cozy seats. The music is also good inside, but I prefer sitting outside whenever the weather allows to watch the shoppers and strollers walk along Camden Passage.

Je né ce quoi! That’s the phrase that best fits this pub. Food is average and its served until 8pm, after that you can have bar snacks. They have real ales and your basic beer and spirits. Really lovely mood in the summer(or whenever its not raining and cold) to sit outside, like Prudence says, with the market going so is this pub’s buzz. They have multiple quiz machines inside, and probably what makes this pub stand out from others is the stand up comedy nights they have upstairs. They won’t cost more than a fiver and rumour has it you can find some really talented up and coming comedians. Other than the outside patio and the comedy, its just another pub. Some trivia: Dating back to the 1800’s, the Camden Head is supposed to be haunted, problem is the ghost ducked out of fulfilling its duties back in 1991. We never when it will return. If it does.
