Pretentious! One of the waitresses were very rude to us(she looked like she was having a bad day), and when we told the manager, he tookbher side! Beautiful décor inside and lovely for a wine in this historic old prison but staff do not make it pleasant unfortunately!

The only problem with Carvosso’s is that I too often forget it’s there… It’s a great place to go lounge with a glass of wine in your hand, sitting in a leather chair or sofa in the bay window and watch life go by on the high road. Or if you prefer to be outside(or smoke) then grab a drink in the cosy garden. The food is also pretty good but for me it’s mostly a place to grab a classy drink with friends.

Sooo… My husband and I returned to Carvosso’s last weekend after a sort of long day of shopping on the High Road. It was an unusually warm and sunny day for mid-October, so nothing sounded better than a bottle of wine while seated in a pretty garden. That is, until we tried to order a bottle of wine while seated in a pretty garden. 4:00 — Enter Carvosso’s and sit at a table in the garden. 4:05 — Go to toilet. 4:08 — Return to table and am informed by my husband that the server has still not stopped by our table. 4:15 — Server stops by and asks us if we are ready to order. We explain that we have not yet received menus. 4:19 — Menus are delivered to our table. 4:35 — Leave Carvosso’s as neither server visited our table after the menus were delivered and all attempts to flag down our original server failed. There is no excuse for not paying attention to your customers. We waited 35 minutes for someone to take our order only to leave because no one took our order. You should be ashamed of yourselves, Carvosso’s.

When I imagine my perfect summer evening, this is where I want to be. Wicker chairs, delicious wine, tasty tidbits, good company, and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere… To celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, Greg and I set off on a hunt to find a good wine bar. Surprisingly, it was quite difficult to find many places that were categorized as such. You would think that in a city as big as London, there would be tons to choose from! Eventually we ended up at Carvosso’s at 210, a self-proclaimed«wine bar and eating house» in the lovely neighborhood of Chiswick. The building that houses Carvosso’s is shaped almost like a square doughnut with a patio in the middle. There are cozy corners, more open and traditional restaurant-like settings, as well as the flower filled outdoor space. On such a beautiful day, we chose to sit outside to enjoy the warm weather. One big difference between the UK and the US is how you order wine. Back in Seattle, we’d order by the glass(i.e. however generous their pour may be). Here, you order by specific amount(generally 175 ml, 250 ml, or the whole bottle). Instead of each ordering a 175 ml glass, we decided to share a few 250 ml glasses. It was fun reading through the long list of wines and picking out ones with the most appealing descriptions. We also ordered a charcuterie plate which was accompanied by freshly baked bread(yum!), olive oil for dipping, and butter. As usual, I sneaked a peek at other diners’ plates and their food looked delicious as well! If I have anything to say about it, we will be back here soon. Preferably on a sunny, warm day when we have lots of time to sit back and enjoy our wine.

Are pubs supposed to look this nice? I felt like I was walking into a rustic countryside pub. It was a bit drafty so they had a few portable heaters throughout the dining room. They have a great menu — I had the goats cheese tart to start and the gnocchi w/pesto as a main. Both dishes were delicious but as most of the other reviews say, it ain’t gonna be cheap!

First time here despite living in Chiswick for 3 years now as its always busy when we walk past. Was looking for a steak dinner and was not disappointed! Great food and service, really nice and vibrant atmosphere great for friends who are looking for a lively bar for a drink, dinner and catch up!

Recently we held a large family event here(40 + people) the only time I visited, although no stranger to this part of the world. The nature of the event meant we had the whole of the upstairs to ourselves complete with red velvet rope to keep out the hoi polloi(or was that keep them in?). Staff were very friendly and generally efficient, serving a very large party fairly promptly, although things fell apart somewhat towrds the end of the meal. Still, a tough thing to pull off, so close to Christmas(and at the weekend too). Foodwise, there was a lot that was very good a foie gras and chicken liver terrine struck a nice balance between the unctous goosiness and the lighter chicken. A Divine Tart a caramel and nut thing, not wholly unlike a Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall recipe that had been on TV the week before was very good. Cheesboard was also creditable, with a good mix, including some goats cheese, and quince jelly. For mains, the rib of beef looked spot on, but I had foolishly gone for an unmemorable pasta dish(something and sage?) — not a great choice, as it came out pretty cold, late, and a skinny American aunt sat next to me had a portion at least three times as big as me. Fortunately she was a bit drunk, so I could steal hers. On which subject, the wine list looks serviceable as well, with a notable selection of intensely whites(e.g. the Tres Palacios Sauvignon Blanc Reserve at the cheaper end, and for those with deeper pockets, a good Puligny Montrachet and Meursault). A selection of fruity art think dressing room fun at the Moulin Rouge, circa 1897 completes the picture. All in all, a credit to Chiswick, particualrly when three courses may only run to about £16 at lunch.

I went here recently had a wonderful time amazing food, pretty interiors and a great range of drinks and cocktails ask for their home made vanilla vodka, it’s delicious! The staff are lovely too, I thoroughly recommend it. It is a bit on the pricey side though, but that won’t deter me from going again

Strange mix of people with ‘Horay Henrys’, ‘Bob the builders’ and ‘Leslie the yummy Mummys’! Try the ‘Wild Rush’ wine — gooseberry with a good deal of bite to it! And the ‘Dirty Martini’ is deadly. Also the ‘pitta bread with dips’ dish if you’re a little peckish — but bring mints! Outside garden/smoking area and rude French art on walls. Staff are friendly and attentive.

For some reason we’ve never spotted this place when we’ve been looking for a lunch venue in Chiswick. Such a shame because it’s a great find(although the prices are a touch high for a regular weekly lunch.) Nice warm atmosphere inside. Without feeling too crowded the venue was able to give an impression of cosiness and privacy. Apparently it has a courtyard out the back too which should be explored in the warmer weather. The food was very good quality and filling and there was plenty on the a la carte menu that caught my attention. Service was attentive and responsive. Can’t wait to go back and try their pork belly!

I love this place! The food is wonderful. I have organised a few dinners here and the staff are always accomodating. Great atmosphere and lovely courtyard area for the summer. A great rennovation!

It was pouring with rain and I was looking for a nice place to have relaxed drink on Chiswick High Road. Carvosso’s eating house and wine bar looked pretty perfect, stylish yet warmly inviting. The wine and cocktails were good and reasonably priced, overall I really liked it. My only complaint would be the odd choice of imposter Lautrec artwork of brothel-like women being groped. As I sipped my wine I was half expecting a Moulin Rougesque«entertainer» to walk down the red carpeted stairs. This gave an otherwise very pleasant bar and restaurant a rather strange edge.

Carvosso’s at 210 Chiswick High road oozes class and sits very well with the Chiswick middle classes and people who are looking for a relaxed and more refined experience. Terribly British, terribly posh but a great place to eat and enjoy great company. It is not going to be cheap but if you want to be looked after by the excellent staff and for everything to be just so — then this is the place. Serving a varied menu of quality dishes, you won’t get a burger and chips this place it is more likely to be serving pheasant or duck. Great selection of wines by the glass or the bottle and they also sell draught lager — which is not the norm for this type of establishment. Tends to attract the professional older generation and not somewhere you are likely to see the younger noisier crowd — definitely more refined than that !

I was glad to come across this restaurant in Chiswick High Road which is neither part of a chain nor grossly overpriced. Good place for meeting for a relaxed chat. I wouldn’t recommend this place on the strength of its food, though. My rating is based on a risotto main course only, but this was very disappointing. It had the consistency of regular rice cooked in a creamy sauce — which would also explain the rather prompt service. All in all a rather average experience, the place has a French feel to it(due to a large number of Lautrec-inspired pictures and bistro chairs) and the garden area in the centre must definitely be one of its main attractions.
