I came here with a group of friends for a bite and drink before going to watch the dogs… Point being you question yourself reading on in curiously this pub is very accommodating to groups! Wheyyy, finally got there. Clean and warm and homely environment. The food, location in mind was relatively priced, the menu on my visit was relatively traditional game. My meal was cooked well, unlike some gastro pubs in which the meats are over cooked and chewy also neatly presented.

First this is a regular venue for me. It’s been here forever. Their beer is pretty good — they even have a Wimbledon local brew. Their restaurant area is fairly noisy but the service is excellent(a very charming waitress) and the food is very good. I thoroughly enjoyed their knickerbocker glory made with home made ice cream. definitely worth a stop.

We were here for dinner. The review is so low because the band who sang off tune to songs I wouldn’t have chosen for this location. The wait staff was friendly, but did switch between two people without talking to each other, interesting. They do get points for having Wi-Fi here so I could check in on Unilocal. You do have to give a lot of information to get to the Wi-Fi. The bathrooms were clean and well lit. It was the same bathrooms for both ladies and gentleman. Now, on to the food. The fish and chips looked nice. The banners and mash had a wonderful sauce. My crab cakes were on the tiny and less favorable side. The bread and veggie plate was nice, but I wanted butter. The best taste I had all night was the chocolate and caramel tart. It was a nice blend, but not the English experience I wanted on travel.

Really good Sunday lunch. Service wasn’t as good as the food… but you can forgive that for the food. Good location, comfy interior.

Service attentive and polite, even picked that one in our party was gluten free after asking for the main of a burger without bread. Made suggestions for the allergy and even checked if all ok. I had the pale ale battered haddock with fries and I have to say this was simply the best fish and chips I have had in the world to date fish was cooked stunningly and the fries are amazing top of with mushed minted peas and tartare sauce. Size of the plate was enormous and I couldn’t finish it all extremely good value for money. I would strongly recommend this place if ever in the Wimbledon area as the service, food and drinks selection is great.

I had a dinner here with two business associates last night. The D&F is essentially a pub turned restaurant, but it retains some London pub character with high ceilings, a long bar with a good beer selecton including real ales, and an open-plan, relaxed atmosphere. As the other reviewers mention there are several dining areas where groups can have a space to themselves yet still be connected to the general atmosphere. The food was generally pretty good — I had a Caesar salad starter which was very nice, well presented, and just the right size. For desert I chose a gourmet ice cream selection which was also great, although slathered with a little too much whipped cream(why do restaurants imagine we want cream on cream?). The only disappointment was my main course, the house special steak pie. Unfortunatley the pastry was soggycrust not shortcrust, and the mash, I am sad to say, distinctly tasted like it was instant, with a firm, dry and slightly gritty texture. I hope it wasn’t, but it wasn’t fresh and buttery like it was supposed to be. That said, my companions had slow roast pork which was lovely, and a really tasty and well presented gourmet burger. So for a relaxed, pub-style evenig out with a touch of Wimbeldon chic and not too pricey, this place is fine and I would come again, although not to have the pie.

After a long day of watching tennis at Wimbledon during the Olympics, we knew that it was in our best interest to eat dinner locally rather than take the train back into the City and risk kitchens being shuttered for the evening. So, after about a 15 minute walk from the hallowed grounds of the All England we arrived in Wimbledon Village. After taking a quick walk through the area, we decided to stop in here. We left feeling quite happy with our choice. Upon entering the establishment you find that there are several rooms. The right side, upon entering, was more pub style, while the left side was more of a restaurant feel to it. There are also outdoor seating areas, though after a long day outside it was just getting brisk enough to want to sit inside. After sitting down, we ordered some beers to start as we looked over the menu. Our server was quite patient with us, as for some reason, it took a bit of time to come to a decision. We started with some olives and bread to start. It was a large sized starter. For my entrée I chose the tagliatelle with butternut squash and goat cheese. It was a surprisingly rich meal, but tasty. The sauce was on the creamier side and the dish also included arugula(rocket) and pine nuts. Should my travels bring me back to Wimbledon, I would not hesitate to return to this establishment. It served its purpose quite well.

To say this is a WImbledon instituition is a bit of an understatement. I recall doing a project at school(in WImbledon) when I was knee high to a grasshopper(oh, alright, I was 10) in which we had to find out the history of where we lived. This pub appeared in photos from 1850-ish. It is also where I went for my first drink having finished sixth form, and quite often where I spent a Friday night more drunk than I should have been. It has of course changed a lot since then — it’s been re-vamped as a dining pub(no, I can’t use the word gastro) rather than just a huge watering hole. I’ve been a few times and to be honest had mixed experiences, which make it hard to review. I first had a casual burger here for lunch with a friend and the burger blew me away — it was excellent. With these high hopes, I went back for a roast. It was not bad, but inspiring for its hefty price tag. Recently, we went for dinner. It was SO hit and miss I’ll just have to describe it: — our waiter was lovely(but the food was slow to arrive) — the halloumi starter was great(but stupidly expensive for a small portion) — the soup was absolutely delicious(but came with no butter for the bread) — the pork main course was a great idea, and huge(but the black pudding was actively horrible and the pork was burnt) — the steak was fantastic… OK, no bad points there! All in all, it was a nice dinner but the cost was too high to justify what was fairly inconsistent. And burnt things shouldn’t come out of a kitchen after a 45 minute wait. But the food can be fantastic. On top of that, it’s a nice place for a drink — the décor is nice and the staff generally friendly. Probably 3 ½ stars…

One of the best Sunday roasts I have found in SW London. Also have a decent selection of beers on draft, as well as Pimms on draft for a nice summer drink.

The Dog & Fox is a landmark pub in Wimbledon. You can’t miss it as you drive into Wimbledon Village from Wimbledon Common and the pub sells itself as the closest pub to the All England Lawn Tennis Club where the Wimbledon Tennis Championships are played. I’m not really a pub person but I was in the Dog & Fox last Saturday for a surprise 50th bithday party for one of my hockey team. We were able to hide in one of their function rooms until his wife brought him in and he got a pleasant surprise when he walked in. The pub were good hosts through the evening. The indoor space is large and has a spacious feel with tall ceilings. Half of the area is for drinking and there’s a restaurant area for food. I didn’t experience any of the food but there was some yummy looking fish which came past me with one of the waitresses. In the summer, the best spot would be outside under one of the canopy umbrellas with a cold drink in hand. Only hazard with al fresco dining or drinking these days is the drift of cigarette smoke coming over if you’re downwind from smokers. This Wimbledon institution is a pleasant place to while some time away with friends

Im a big fan of the Dog and Fox, Its become our local even though we live in Putney. What is it? A great pub to have a meal. We ate in the restaurant this time because of the crowd and it was really nice. Burger and chips and Steak with veg. Nice big area. The bar food is nice too. Pub quiz on Sunday, a Pimms outside in summer or guiness inside in winter. Friendly staff. The beer comes with a head on it(an Australian thing) The apmosphere is a bit sophisticated and the customers are majority over 25. Probably not for a big night out but great to meet up with people as you can talk and lots of room to sit outside and inside too.

It’s pricey for what it is and the sunday roast isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. You’re better off going to the Fire Stables. Update June 2010 — the burgers here are pretty decent but again it’s not cheap !

Large, busy generic Young’s pub with tasteful if corporate-chic décor. Packed outside in the summer when they do a decent roast and full in the winter with Barbour bearing types sheltering from the cold. The food is upper-end-chain-pub and pretty pricey for what it is. The drinks are also on the ‘London’ end of the scale. Pleasant enough for a drink or two and the atmosphere is decent. Not one to get over excited about though.

Good place for a beer in the village… especially since they re-did it. Decent outdoor seating as well… gets super busy during the tennis though so be prepared for a crowd…

A venue of two halves… a rather lackluster resteraunt with rather flakey service on one side and a fairly standard pub with good outdoor seating on the other. Great for a couple of drinks and some not too serious pub food, but don’t go for the restaurant.

Rather pricy(moreso than the rest of the village) and an arguably pretentious clientele, however the building, fixtures & fittings and their outdoor terrace make it a nice mid afternoon stop off.

This English Pub has a real country vibe about it which I love. If you’re looking for somewhere that has what a pub should have but with a bit more class then this is the place for you. It offers a great selection of food and drink all of which is quite pricey but the village qualities that Wimbledon offer are really appealing. Being in Wimbledon Village offers a beautiful counter to the hustle and bustle of London City and being here makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. It’s great in the summer and it’s great in the winter but if you wanted food I would rather eat in one of the many restaurants that surround the Dog and Fox rather than spend a lot of money on overpriced pub grub.

This is probably the pub that during Wimbledon gets the busiest. It sells itself as being the closest to the All England Club and certainly that combined with its terrace on the sunny side of the street makes this a great place to soak up the atmosphere if you haven’t lucked out in the seats draw. All year round the food is pretty traditional pub grub and it’s not bad at all. The fish and chips I had was pretty nice — the batter was just right and the chips were rectangular bits of fried potato — you know the ones. Our meal came to about £15 quid each so it’s not cheap but there are always plenty of tables during the week and if you want to stay in the centre of the action this place is slap, bang in the middle of town.

I used to go to the Dog and Fox a number of years ago before it was refurbished and it was an excellent drinking hole. The food was what you expected and the beer was well priced and a perfect location on the High street. Nine of us went there for a Sunday lunch recently, the first time I had been back since the refurbishment. They have really spent a lot of money on the place and its more of a restaurant than a pub. It was incredibly busy when we got there and we were told the wait would be an hour for the table. That was fine as we got some drinks and found a table in the bar area. Two hours later we got our table. It was incredibly busy and the waiters looked run off their feet. The menu looked very appetizing but very expensive. However the kitchen is kind of open and looked very professional and all the food coming out looked good. Some of us ordered the roasts and some fish and chips. The food took ages to arrive with one meal being forgotten by the waiter. Unfortunately all the roasts were luke warm and not very good. The fish and chips was excellent I must say. The bad service and high prices really put us all off, and after complaining about the food we got the roasts taken off the bill. I think there are better places to go in Wimbledon for lunch.

The Dog & Fox was nice but must be marketing itself as some sort of gastropub as the prices of the food were quite pricey. Admittedly it is in Wimbledon Village but still — a pub is a pub. I must admit our burgers were gorgeous though. My friend’s pasta, however, was cold and seemingly just tipped out of a bottle.
