Really not good. Duck egg café used to be a cute little café but now they’ve moved into The Prince of Wales pub — not that this is an issue but it seems to have seriously affected the food standard. I ordered eggs benedict and what arrived was most definitely that but the sauce was clearly out of a jar and did not taste good, the muffin was like one you’d get from a McDonald’s breakfast, the eggs were OK — runny which was good but the ‘ham’ was a slice of over cooked fatty bacon. I am usually one for attempting to see the positives from a meal but I really didn’t enjoy this and it’s such a shame that Duck Egg has gone so down hill as a result of moving. The staff however were friendly but not very attentive. Just disappointing sadly.

Woah that was bad. So Duck Egg had actually closed up their café and moved into the Prince of Wales pub. That should have been a warning sign. But we went anyway because the reviews were good. And I never ate at the regular café so I can’t say how it was. But now? It is bad. So bad. The service is lethargic. The eggs look like plastic. The vegetables are pale and gross looking. The sandwiches are just plane awful. Also they say they have wifi with posters on the wall but then they will tell you it doesn’t work. Don’t go. Wait until they find their own space again. M

Unbeatable atmosphere delicious fresh squeezed juices tastes options and succulent specials. The staff were prompt and kind, always smiling. Even though I showed up(unknowingly I might add) 5 minutes before close, they still welcomed me in and didn’t rush me or make me feel unwelcome.

I don’t tend to venture south of the River often, but on Saturday I decided to meet a friend in Brixton for brunch. We didn’t have a place in mind to eat, we thought we’d just wing it. I stumbled upon Duck Egg Café, when I saw a group of people waiting to eat there. So naturally, if there is a line it has to be good. Without even looking at the menu I joined the line. After about 10 mins I was seated in the café. The interior is cute, and has a homely feel, decked out with wooden tables and chairs. There are drinks menu boards above the cashier, and food menu boards above the tables. The menu itself is as you would expect full of typical breakfast foods based on eggs. I love that you get the option of either hen or duck eggs with your meal. Being gluten and dairy free there was only one breakfast selection I could get(unless I asked for without bread), the 3 egg omelette with fries. I had a selection of fillings to pick from, so had the tomato and mushrooms, with the duck eggs. And obviously a black coffee. When the food came out I was instantly in awe. The serving was huge! No wonder there were so many guys in here eating. The omelette filled half the plate and the fries filled the other side. The eggs were cooked well, and the fries were hand cut and tasted amazing. My friend had the full breakfast which was also overflowing on the plate. I battled my way through half the omelette and half the fries, there was no way I could finish it all. When the check came I was pleasantly surprised with the total £18 for a big breakfast with hen eggs, and hash brown, the omelette, a tea and a coffee. BARGAIN! Will definitely be back with a large appetite.

Very good traditional English breakfast but with a nice twist to have with duck egg. I had the eggs benedict which was very tasty.

This is a fantastic place to come for breakfast particularly if you are need of some comforting and restorative food. As it happens I was not hung over on Sunday morning when I paid the Duck Egg Café a visit for the first time, but it is great to know where to come the next time I am! The menu here is great, quite varied, with lots to choose from and food that should keep everyone happy. There are also plenty of specials as well. If the thought of a duck egg doesn’t quite float your boat, you can have a plain old fashioned hen egg instead. I had the Catalan breakfast, one of the specials(which I hope will be on the menu again), — scrambled eggs on toast served with sautéed Chorizo, peppers, spring onions and potatoes. The portion was huge and I couldn’t finish it — this was a problem as I really wanted to finish it. It was the best breakfast I’ve had out in ages. My friend had the duck egg royale — poached duck eggs on toasted English muffins, topped with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. Again the portion was big but it was definitely too good to waste! Tea & coffee, and juices were extra but it still worked out at pretty good value. The service was great too — very quick with little fuss, just what you want on a lazy Sunday morning. It is very popular here, with very good reason, and some people had to queue but the turnover was pretty quick and it is well worth the wait! I would definitely recommend giving it a go, and I for one will certainly be back here again!

This place is a diamond amidst the rough and tumble ruins of Brixton center. Great breakfast for a Monday morning and since it is a weekday, practically empty. I ordered simply: 2 scrambled eggs with cheddar and toast and they were served perfectly cooked, not too overdone and not too runny, but rather with the right combination of moist and sturdy. They were well salted, the cheddar was the right degree of sharp and the toast lightly buttered. My boyfriend had the duck egg florentine and was likewise as satisfied. I snagged a bit of his hash, and it was delicious, crispy, well seasoned and not too oily. We each washed it down with a glass of OJ which had some light pulp to make it appear if not fresh squeezed at least fresh. The best part was that the food was good and the bill was completely affordable. A nice escape around the corner from all the hustle & bustle of Brixton Village.

The big breakfast with duck eggs was excellent, everything was cooked perfectly, plus it came with tea and toast. Perfect for a hangover cure! Lovely charm to the place too.

Amazing Eggs Benedict! All made with deliciously proteiney gold yolk duck eggs which are scrumtiously bigger and tastier than their raptor footed dry land counterparts.

*exhales warmly* I love the Duck Egg Café! Firstly the décor is cutesy and inviting, but in a minimal cutesy way. Pale blue walls, chalk boards, multicoloured chairs and bright and airy feel. Very inviting. The staff are also really nice. Nothing better than having an amiable chat with the guy whose going to prepare my food, I know I can trust you that way. I had a breakfast, it was a Spanish-inspired meal(Catalana?) and had scrambled eggs and potatoes and juicy slices of warm chorizo. Very satisfying and their homemade ginger beer is delicious as well. As we were leaving the chef invited us to come back for burger night. He said that he had been to another restaurant that was meant to specialise in homemade burgers and was disappointed so he decided to give it a go. It’s good to know that he has that passion for food that would drive him to do so. As I said, I trust him!

Delicious, simple but perfectly cooked breakfasts. The option of duck eggs is particularly lovely. This isn’t the fanciest or most original of places but what it does it does very well. Highly recommended!

This, for me, is the best breakfast in Brixton. The food really is fantastic. Simple approach — fresh, well-sourced ingredients cooked well. You’ve got to try those silky duck eggs… Mmmm. You can get a cheaper breakfast in Brixton, but not a better one.

Cute, good priced coffee, smells amazing! The food making it’s way past my table looked absolutely divine, it’s a HUGE pity I’d literally just eaten… Small and can imagine hard to find a table however given most of Brixton Village is shut on a Sunday, this is a sure bet for a big(all-day) breakfast

LIKE. Teeny little café on Coldharbour Lane which specialises in breakfast/brunch fare, and yes you can have duck eggs instead of the usual. You might well find yourself sharing a table in here, there isn’t much space. The food is decent — and service efficient. The prices are a tad on the pricy side for my liking, but I did shell out(wahheeyyy) an extra £1 to have my eggs benedict with duck eggs. Good coffee too.

My boyfriend has been asking to go to this place since we’ve moved to Brixton. So, for his birthday I thought we’d grab breakfast there. I had the Egg Royale and it was great! The egg was perfectly done(I got the hen egg) and the coffee was very good. I was pleased with mine. My boyfriend got the Eggs Benedict and he was also pleased. He got the duck egg and was very happy with his choice. The orange juice that he ordered was fresh squeezed and super delish! We’ll definitely go back!

Lovely service, competent(But not brilliant) hollandaise, good muffins, OK hash browns, poached eggs were a we bit overdone. The upside? For an extra £1, you can have duck’s eggs with your breakfast(or plain old hen’s eggs). I’d have the fry-up if and when I came again. Which I probably will. but I live right here so I typically cook my own. Nice, though, and right on Coldharbour lane.

I had come«down» to Brixton(from North London) on a Mission — to see for myself if the highly-popular pizza joint named Franco Manco is really as good as they all say. Unfortunately(or fortunately) it was a bank holiday and Franco Manco was closed. Distraught and disappointed I walked around the unfamiliar streets of Brixton until my sore eyes laid sight on this: Duck Egg Café. I was intrigued and stuck my head inside, where I saw young people having a good old fry-up in a very joyful and pleasant environment. Given that I was all by myself, I took advantage of the«table-sharing policy» written on the blackboard and joined a couple of lads who were chatting about last night’s adventures. The breakfast menu sounded very enticing and in fact, I wish I’d gone with one of their breakfast options.(You can either choose between hen or duck egg.) Instead, I went for the lentil-curry over rice, which was nice, but just didn’t hit the spot for me. On the other hand, the home-made lemonade was really nice. All in all, I truly enjoyed myself here: the service was friendly and speedy, the crowd was diverse and chatty and the overall atmosphere was just what I needed after the Franco-Manco disappointment!
