I came here for brunch with a friend and it was very enjoyable, although the service was quite slow. I made a reservation several weeks in advance on Open Table and we arrived promptly at noon to a fairly empty restaurant. My friend had the Eggs Portobello, I snagged the Sweet Potato and Chorizo Hash, and we split the Chocolate Hazelnut Brioche as a sweet treat. The hash was really delicious, with a great mix of flavors between the sweet/salty potatoes and the spiced chorizo. My friend highly recommended her Eggs Portobello, and it is very cutely served with a little«hat» on top. However we were a bit disappointed in the brioche, which was quite dry and didn’t have as much flavor as we’d hoped. As others have mentioned, the service was slooooow and inattentive even for London. In spite of the empty restaurant, the waiter took forever to take our order and then forever and a day to even look our way so that we could request the check. In a city full of amazing restaurants, small mistakes like slow service can easily mean losing repeat customers, so I hope they will start to get their act together.

Cute place with nice food and old school charm but comically bad service. Each step was like pulling teeth — from requesting menus and water, to ordering and getting the bill(this process alone took 20 minutes, and communication with 4 different people). What’s most surprising is that the place had only about 3 tables when we walked in, and up to 7 or 8 tables to tend to before we left, but they seemed frazzled and flustered with the basics. Miscommunication and delays all over the place(we got the wrong order twice, and then the wrong bill when it finally came). Tables the left and right of us seemed equally miffed and mystified. Regardless I would go back if they could shape up the service and attentiveness a bit. The menu had many good options and everything coming out of the kitchen seemed to be done with a nice touch. My Eggs Portobello was a new take on the classic Eggs Benedict(with a lighter, taller«muffin,» the egg cooked into the middle rather than poached and balanced on top, plus fresh spinach/full portobello mushroom).

This place has been on my list to try for brunch for ages so I booked a table for my friend and me when she visited back in July. A lovely sunny day meant a leisurely stroll down Portobello Road Market to Good & Wright. We were seated straight away but asked to move to the seat by the window which they didn’t seem to mind — although the waiter was a little grumpy! We browsed the menu and the waitresses gave us plenty of time to choose from the brunch menu — there is so much stuff I want to try including the brioche and hazelnut spread! I went for the french toast with maple bacon which was amazing and my friend went for the scrabbled eggs on toast, which although looked fairly simple were apparently delicious(plenty of egg to toast ratio). We also shared the bacon and avocado brioche roll which for £5 was such a bargain. DELICIOUS! Would definitely go again as at £15 each for the above and a bucks fizz it was well worth the money especially for quality of food! The waiters and waitresses could do with smiling a bit more though! Also looking forward to trying the evening/lunch menu!

When in London last week me and my friend decided on having a spectacular brunch in Notting Hill. Because there is no way you will be able to get a table without a reservation in London, we called about 2 months in advance to make sure we would get one. And we diiid! So we went to Notting Hill on an easy Saturday«morning» around 11:30 pm to get breakfast. In London, places to eat tend to be very crowded — so of course when we entered, the place was filled up to every single table. We were greeted and seated and deciced on having eggs florentine, one brioche vegetarian and cheesy fries to share(see picture below). I’ve got so say — I’ve never eaten anything like that before! Those cheesy fries were out of this world! They came topped with some amazing cheese(I unfortunately can’t recall the exact name) and were crispy and extraordinary delicious! Also the eggs florentine were amazing — being a native German I did not know respectively haven’t ordered anything like that before — somehow things like that just don’t get served in Germany. Poor Germans! The Mimosas we ordered were also very good, the orange juice was freshly squeezed and tasted terrific! Regarding price and quality I would consider Good & Wright as one of the more«cheap» restaurants around London — we paid around 40 Euros for both of us including beverages and the tip. The only negative thing I can say about our visit is that we were seated near the(open) kitchen which lead to having kind of a strong smell around all the time. Next time we would rather sit near the window instead. A very nice place to indulge in an amazing brunch on weekends! But make sure you get your reservation all set in advance! Thumps up! :-)

Some local foodie friends had highly recommended Goode and Wright to me, so ever the intrepid food hound, I made the long trek out here for lunch last week It’s an unassuming place at the northern end of Portobello Road, almost under the Underground line bridge. Hidden behind some market stalls, it’s easy to miss but that would be a shame I booked via Opentable but that wasn’t really necessary on a weekday lunchtime. The server was most helpful and went to the effort of taking care of the small details such as going over to completely shut the door when guests left it slightly ajar. He was very happy to field my questions about the menu I’m a big fan of buttermilk fried chicken and on the day of my visit, it was being offered as a schnitzel with bacon and salad. It arrived attractively but unfussily plated up. The chicken was flavoursome though there was an issue with the crispy coating being a little soggy and having partly fallen some off the pieces. What made the dish yummy were the salad leaves, bacon and dressing, which made the perfect foil to the chicken. I also seemed to remember that avocado was mentioned on the menu though there wasn’t any on the plate. Anyhow, despite these little hitches, I polished off the plate pronto Paired with a freshly squeezed OJ, it made for a good lunch There’s a more extensive dinner menu, which looks promising and I shall be back to sample more dishes

The food was great. You could tell the cook knows what he’s doing and the service was ok. What put me off was the fact that because I was alone they sat me at the far back at a table that had not been cleaned — under a speaker playing shitty 80’s hair band rock. I think the so called«maitre d» was concerned that the 15 empty seats up front might suddenly be filled by waves of tourists and didn’t want to give me a proper table. You should change things and get rid of those back tables which are next to where you sloppily store whatever crap was lying on the floor. But like I said, 5 stars for the food and that’s all that matters, right?

It’s rare that I come away from a dining experience and think«wow, that was perfect!». That’s not to say I haven’t had many enjoyable times, but absolutely perfect ones? Yet Goode & Wright delivered an excellent meal that I haven’t stopped raving about in the past few weeks. From the warm welcome to the delicious food and decadent desserts, this place knows its strengths and plays to them flawlessly. The menu in general will make your mouth water but of course there are some dishes that stand out. The foie gras is a must have with a rich yet delicate foie gras being nicely seared and served with an aged balsamic glaze and a scoop of salted caramel ice cream. It may seem odd at first but you get a mix of sweet and salty flavours with the ice cream and the mellow tanginess of the balsamic tempers the richness of the foie gras. Onto the large plates — we opted for a chicken schnitzel, a steak bavette with braised ox cheek, and a charred octopus to share among our group. Each of them could easily have been a main although the steak was hefty and massed as much as the other two dishes combined. The schnitzel was crispy and tender which ticked off the two most important boxes. The steak was seared rare, sliced, and layered on top of a generous portion of braised ox cheek. While the steak was good, it was the ox cheek and unctuous sauce with mash that stole the show for me. The charred octopus tentacle won the prize for the best presented dish and was soft, succulent, and smoky. And of course we needed some dessert to finish it all off. The dark chocolate mousse with salted caramel ice cream was always going to be a winner and quite simply was. The honeycomb ice cream affogato had an interesting twist as it also had a vanilla marshmallow base — while the flavours were there I’m not sure the texture of the marshmallow was necessary. We also tried a Paris-Brest which turns out is a choux pastry bun with hazelnut cream — not my cup of tea but it went down well with the group. As it was a Monday night, we opted for just one bottle each of red and white wine. I can’t quite recall the white as there wasn’t a handy bottle to take a picture of, but the red was a damn tasty Grignolio D’Asti which went very well with our meatier dishes. Overall, the wine list boasts a good range with the lower end bottles coming in at around £20−30 and the most expensive at £65 if you feel like a bit of a splurge.

Been here on 2 recent visits with Londoner friends. Service is personal, attentive and charming without being over-bearing. The menu is varied, yet brief. I distrust any menu that over-promises and under-delivers. Not a ton of options, but what is offered is quality it on point. For example, tonight my party, for starters, dined on food gras salted caramel ice cream(yes, as a starter – savory shaved foi gras on a bed of salty/sweet ice cream), smoked salmon, duck egg on toast with bacon(decadent) and Devon crab on squash(a real treat). Our mains included, well, tonight three of us chose the grilled octopus risotto – f@cking amazing! Tender, soft, crispy – so very good! For dessert, the chocolate mousse with salted caramel ice cream, yes again. Overall, welcoming, low key place, great food, nice wine list. Host has pride in the place and take care of his customers. Wish there was something like this is the USA.

Utterly charming service will always win through. We went here quite a while ago and I honestly cant remember much about my main course. I know it was buttermilk chicken breast because it says so on the receipt, but it was obviously neither out of this world or completely manky. I think it was quite nice. Quite nice gets three stars at most but this place gets four because of the service. Our waiter was a gem. I hate people who try and order things that aren’t on the menu. A menu is a pretty clear indication of what a restaurant is prepared to serve that day. Choose what’s there and get on with it, fool. So I hated my foolish self when I asked if there was any possibility of whisking up some nibbly bits and bobs as a starter for the group as there wasn’t anything on the menu that was doing it. Guess what? He only went and did it. With a smile on his face. In fact he seemed to enjoy the challenge. And rose to it with a lovely plate of charcuterie and cheese. Bonza. Other things he did that went beyond the call… Indulged my missus by letting her practice her French on him when ordering. Corrected her nonsense without patronizing. Bought us a different wine when the one we were drinking had run out. It was slightly more expensive but he charged us the same price as the original bottle. Spent time with the two children at the table, making them feel special and all grown up. Remained impeccably unflustered and annoyingly good looking and French suave throughout the afternoon even when the place got proper heaving. It’s a narrow galley affair, not spacious but he glided from table to table effortlessly serving loud Notting Hill types and their ipadded up kids with a smile on his face the whole time. Top work fella. We’ll be back for more. A good atmosphere, nice surroundings and decent brunchy food. It creates a great vibe. A cool place to go for Sunday lunch with a wonder round Portabello afterwards.
