Super good Japanese ramen on the east side. We had spicy ramen, and it was great! The noodle is thin, with just a hint of chewiness. It provides the perfect carb base for the flavorful broth and toppings. The broth is rich with a touch of spicy miso. The topping has perfectly tender pork(if you don’t like fatty meat, you may not care for this). I love the pork since it has a nice contrast of all the textures: the fat is rendered to melt in your mouth, the lean meat is tender, and the rind left on provides a soft chew when you bite in to it. The woodear mushroom gives a wood-Zie texture, not really providing any flavor. The bean sprouts provides the perfect softened-crunch bite and a subtle light taste. Enjoy

Yum! Finally got my ramen cravings fixed! The spicy tonkotsu ramen was amazing! The soup was flavourful and the perfect kick of spiciness. The pork belly melts in your mouth. I like that you can choose the texture(soft vs hard) of the noodles as per the menu. However, the server never asked when I ordered so I just got normal noodles. Over the experience was wonderful! The atmosphere was fun and spacious unlike traditional ramen house with limited seating and line up outside. I would come back if I lived closer to the wharf.

Honestly, I like the place. I know there are reviews saying that is just so-so. I ordered the hard noodle, and it was a good texture, and the meal was quite filling. The on-sen egg is up to standard. The steamed bun thingy(with a choice of pork, chicken or veg), with the mayo in it, brought out a special taste, combining savoury and sweetness. Kinda open your appetite. I have to mention the vanilla ice-cream! Vanilla is always a classic. This one was visible with flecks of vanilla seeds, and it just brings out the vanilla flavour ! a MUST-HAVE after meal! For drinks, if you are up for a Japonais feel, do order the Samurai(a cocktail), quite refreshing.

Ippudo in London! I’ve been to Ippudo at several locations around the world and the quality of ramen they served here was the same as what I had everywhere. We came here on Friday evening after work and got lucky that a shared table just became available and got seated immediately. They do get busy here, I saw at least 30 people waiting to be seated when we were ready to leave. Ippudo originally from Hakata, is known for tonkotsu ramen. They call it white ramen here and quality of noodles and broth is the same as the original store in Fukuoka. A couple of appetizers such as gyoza was what I expected(in a good way), drink special during happy hour price was nice, I enjoyed my quick dinner after a long day in the office. Service was a bit slow as they were really busy but still got what I wanted with just a little wait. Too commercialized perhaps but quality is always consistent. Can’t go wrong with Ippudo anywhere in the world, and this Canary Wharf location is no exception.

I have been here both for lunch and dinner during the work week. Each time I had a great experience and left very full and satisfied. The hosts that sat us were very friendly and the fresh buns and spicy ramen were consistent in deliciousness. I choose the duck buns(along with each group of friends) and had the spicy veggie ramen one time while trying the chicken spicy ramen the second time. Both were flavourful and filling. It does get busy during the week, but if you pop in right around noon you can find a spot. During the later evening, it seemed to be less buys. I’ll be back for sure!

Having been to the Tottenham Court Road branch of ippudo I had low expectations for the ramen at the latest branch in Canary Wharf. Given the limited choices of decent non multi-chain food in CW& mainly due to the freezing cold weather we decided to go for ramen. Although I knew the ramen would not be anywhere close to the best and been warned it would be rather salty at this branch, what I did not expect was to be presented with the messiest and ugliest bowl of ramen I have ever seen. Even a bowl of ramen from a roadside stall would be more presentable than the bowl of unappetising mess we were served with(see the photos for yourself). The egg which needs to be ordered as an extra was served whole and needed to be cut in half using chopsticks. Service during this Saturday late lunch visit was beyond inattentive I had to ask 3 different servers including the one who took our order for a cup of hot water until I finally received it. Bringing the card machine to pay the bill also took several requests. Prices are rather high — a bowl of ramen with extra chashu & egg, gyoza & tea plus service came to over £30! If we had the luxury of more time for a leisurely Saturday lunch in CW we could have dined at Roka on the unlimited weekend brunch offer for a little more but much better standard of service and food!

For the price you’re paying(dinner), I expected more. The portion was small and flavour had msg I believe. Lunch portion was better though, but still on the you don’t get a lot side. That said, the flavour was at least good and you will at least be satisfied for the food quality.

I never got a chance to try the one in nyc as the line was way too long when it first opened so when Ippudo opened in our neighbourhood I jumped on top of it… and was disappointed. We came at lunch and there were only three types of ramen to choose from, the regular tokontsu, akamaru modern, and the spicy one. For 2 quid more, you can add one of the four mini donburis to your set — chicken karrage, chashu, katsu, or curry veg. We started with the hirakata bun for 3GBP each — the bun was great and the pork belly was marinated in some delicious sauce that had a nice kick… but as i kept chowing down, the lettuce and mayo really took the whole experience away… what is up with that mayo? It tasted terribly sour and was also in the mini dons! who wants to have rice with weird mayo? I got the akamaru modern for 11 gbp with the chicken karage mini don for extra 2 gbp. the soup base was okay and i wasn’t crazy about the thin straight noodles. the chicken was good but i couldnt eat the rice cuz it had this weird sour sauce and a lot of mayo. My bf’s spicy ramen was much much better, but i wasn’t a fan of his katsu don either. Service was a bit disorganized as they had a lot of servers running around but no real system as to who should be doing what. Between the two of us, our bill was 36GBP with service charge included. I’ve had way better ramen and for way cheaper price — but the food wasn’t too bad. The only time I could see myself come back is if i’m really craving ramen and we don’t want to go anywhere far. Otherwise, save yourself a trip. I’m sure there are better places elsewhere in London.

Mmmmmm, ramen. There are ippudos all over the world and they’re all quality. Well, I guess I don’t know all, but the ones I have been too for sure. This is their newest branch and it feels new. Tucked away in Canary Wharf in the new development, this is so much better than the other stuff just minutes away in Surrey Quay. If you are there for a movie and want dinner first, come to Ippudo. There aren’t that many seats so it can be busy. But go anyway. The ramen is always quality, always, tasty and hot and flavourful. Plus, you get to pick your noodle harndness, which I love. The staff here is friendly(they greet you in Japanese when you come in) and seat you quickly. Every once and a while, service can be a little slow, and apps can come out at weird times(we ordered may shrimp and it came out after our ramen) but it’s so good and not overpriced and tasty. So tasty. Did I mention tasty. Damn, now I want ramen again.

So the East is finally getting some more exciting restaurants. In the newly opened Crossrail Place, a handful of new restaurants have shown up and Ippudo is one such place! Ippudo’s first branch is at St Giles. The younger sister at Canary Wharf is a little smaller than the St Giles branch, but the décor is not too dissimilar. Friendly staff greets you in Japanese as you are led to your seats/table. At lunch time, there is a smaller lunch menu with the full menu available in the evening. Giving me an obvious excuse to visit again! Ramen is always a lovely wholesome meal so we can only imagine showing up here more regularly in the future!

Ramen makes it to Canary Wharf! Okay, so technically Wagamama has been in the Wharf for a while, but it’s sad to call what they serve ramen. I’ve been twice to the Canary Wharf branch after wandering around at lunchtime on a weekend and seeing there were no queues. Both times I ordered the special tsukemen ramen(dipping ramen) since I prefer the thicker wavy noodles that come in tsukemen to the traditional thin straight noodles in tonkotsu ramen. Noodles, soup, egg, and all the other toppings were on point both times. The thick slabs of chashu are definite upgrades on the paper-thin offerings at other London ramen joints(e.g., Bone Daddies). I was happy with my order of tsukemen ramen both times, but after finishing the second time, I could smell the meaty, garlicky broth of the akamaru modern from my neighbor and totally got food envy. Next time when I’m wandering the Wharf on a weekend at lunch, I’ll definitely try what they’re famous for.

Finally got to try Ippudo for dinner, and I really enjoyed everything. We ordered koyza to share, then I ordered the spicy ramen for main. I savoured every bit of the kyozas — very well cooked and perfect for whetting your appetite. My ramen was solid as well. Just adequately spicy and flavourful, though I did wish that they were more generous with the various toppings. Ambience was so-so — quite minimalist and very busy during peak hours. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking to have a business or fancy meal. Service was okay, though it wasn’t the most caring or prompt. It’s one of those places that won’t seat you until the whole party has arrived, so be sure that everyone in your group arrives on time. All in all, would go back mainly for the food. And I’d definitely like to try the wings next time — they looked great.

Ippudo opened a new branch in Canary Wharf yesterday, so I though I should pay a visit! why not? The atmosphere in the restaurant was great with so many renges(special spoon for ramen) and bottles of shochu display! The staff were very nice, greeting with smile. The ramen itself was ok for me. Because I come from the city ippudo origins so I know the real taste of hakata ramen. Their soup was great. I felt it was quite similar to the one in Japan. Just a bit oily though. The noodle was different from Japanese one and it reminded me of soba noodle. That made me choose 4 stars overall. My friends ordered cocktail called«hakata» and something like lime one which was really amazing! The restaurant is located in a fancy gourmet building in Canary Wharf. I will go visit there again when I miss Japanese food!
