Very underwhelming, flavor was fine but the rolls seemed undersized. Would not recommend the crab salad. If you do decide to come here definitely get one of the lunch boxes(best bang for your buck). Oh and they do not honor the free glass of wine offer. Apparently they were«not accepting this offer at the moment»

The only place for Sushi in London. Been coming here for some years and have never had a bad meal. Bento boxes are a decent size, sushi is fresh and filling. Dishes you can’t go wrong with either. The place is small but well run and the service is always on point.

This is a decent place for mainly Japanese food but they also do Korean food. Competition is strong as it’s located right next to Assa and Eat Tokyo and really, Assa is better at Korean food and Eat Tokyo is better at Japanese food. But it is decent! It’s just somehow there’s nothing about it that really stands out against its competition. Yes, you can get a decent £9.50 beef bulgogi lunch bento to takeaway and it will fill you to the brim, it will have many many beef to satisfy your cravings. Had takeaways for the last two visits. Generally their waitresses are nice but a bit aloof. They let me pay by credit card even though there’s supposedly a £10 minimum charge(come on it’s £9.50). They also let me order in advance, leave and come back to collect and pay upon collection. From my experiences of eating here, the place is quite homely I suppose. The staircase to the basement is a bit treacherous as it’s really narrow. You are also sitting on storage benches which are quite useful as the place is quite small. No problems like Bao though, no need for queues to go out the door. You can generally get a space whenever you come here to eat.

Took a valid Unilocal voucher to the restaurant. I had fill out a «Good» ratings survey in order to gt it. Got there and they refused the voucher saying it was ‘a year old’ when the voucher clearly stated todays date and time. They’re service was poor and the waitress had some serious attitude. The food would have been great but service put me off.

My husband and I always celebrate special occasions with a meal at a Japanese Restaurant … so we came here for dinner to celebrate thirty-three years together. It’s a small restaurant, but very comfortable. The lighting and all that wood gives the restaurant a comforting, warm atmosphere. We both ordered miso soup, a large Sashimi sampler, and shared a bottle of Sake. Everything was fresh and delicious. I’m usually pretty good at nit-picking and finding fault(ask anyone who knows me) but I wouldn’t change anything about our meal here. Great location, great atmosphere, great food, beautiful presentation, very good service(better than most places we dined in London), and the price was reasonable. I’d love to return the next time we’re in town.

In the quest for the best sushi spots in London. We ordered the maki platter, was very small rolls! Nothing special about the flavours. Added 2 main dishes, the first one was marinated beef with egg, tomatoes and rice. The dish was very sweet, wouldn’t recommend it. The second main was the best dish in the entire meal, spicy grilled pork. Staff are great and very friendly.

I’m so happy to find you again. Stumbled upon you last time in London and felt this was a great find for comfort sushi and Japanese without the pretense. Reminds me of my local Brooklyn, NY go to every Friday night sushi place. Nothing fancy but nice sushi with an abundance of choices both cooked and raw. When I am here for work I done at so many upscale sushi places but when the time is my own this is where I go. I feel happy and cozy here. No complaints and all items just what is expected! Fresh sushi and great variety.

I have been eating here for many many years. The Korean owners here sure does a good job. The restaurant is almost always busy so remember to reserve. Let’s start with the restaurant. The place is very narrow and small and tables are limited. The benches against the walls are not the Most comfortable. Toilets are so-so clean. Onto the staff, its a hit or miss. Sometimes staff are very friendly and helpful but there are also times when they are all grumpy and doesn’t want to help. On a busy day they sure do their best to kick u out ASAP. the food is very good. Sushi and sashimi here are all very fresh. Kyoto does a good combination of sushi plates. I always order the salmon plate which consists of 3 pieces of thick sliced salmon, 3 pieces of salmon nigiri and 6 small salmon makis. I think the price for this dish is very reasonable. The drinks menu are reasonably wide as well with a variety of choices including aloe Vera or lemon tea aside from the usual green tea. This place is slightly pricey but for fresh fish, definitely worth the penny.

An old favourite. Been coming here for many years. The soft shell crab is very good and reasonably priced. You can certainly find better quality sushi places, but probably not for the same price tag.

Food — good. Sushi is good — dragonroll is delicious. The udon(sans soup) with seafood wasn’t a fav. Gyoza — standard. Service — it’s true what the others say — not great. Also, what is up with the terrible tea pots that dribble tea everywhere? Value — good Ambiance — casual, not buzzy. I wouldn’t take a first date here but later for a more casual dinner, it’s fine. With friends, fine. Probably not for work dinners though.

Amazing sushi — TERRIBLESERVICE. Apparently if youre not Japanese or fail to speak the language — you are literally black listed and will wait up to an hour for your starter. I lnow this sounds horrible but i saw other non– Asian tables and i was upset to see people made to wait for so long while all their other customers(mainly Asian) were happily eating their meals — even tho they had arrived 30 mins after us. This is the third time i have had to endure this — yet the sushi is great. Non-Japanese buyer BEWARE! And ANNUNCIATE or they will screw up your order.

There is absolutely nothing to complain about with Kyoto Sushi. A bit of a wait, but rewarded with friendly service and good sushi. There is nothing mind-blowing about this place, but the food was really good. Big thumbs up for friendly service.

We arrived just at the tail end of dinner rush on a weeknight. They estimated a 5 – 10 minute wait, which we agreed to. Now it can be hard to know just when other tables will clear, but it was another 40 before we were seated. The staff was friendly and took orders straight away. We had quite a long wait for our food which was apologized for with free refills of our beverages. The sushi was decent but had some sauces that were a bit out of place, at least as far as traditional sushi goes. When the mains did come out they were tasty and hot. On a side note this restaurant is clearly run by a Chinese group. There is also Korean food on the menu. Not a true deal breaker but it does weigh on the authenticity of the food.

Kyoto resides next to Eat Tokyo in Soho but the standard given by both differs quite distinctly. Nasu Dengaku £5 Katsu Curry £9 Chirashi £11.50 The food was quite underwhelming and unmemorable. I think I’ll be sticking to its neighbour for my Japanese kick!

Reasonable all around. While I wouldn’t go miles out of my way to eat here, it was a solid choice for some basic Japanese cuisine. I had the chirashi don(tuna/fish on top of sushi rice) which was very fresh tasting, and the sushi rice was EXCELLENTLY seasoned, which is really important for this dish to have flavour. The tables are a bit close together, which was actually kind of fun because my friend and I could eaves drop of the SUPER awkward first date going on next to us, where the girl talked about sustainable energy for like 2 hours to the feigned interest of her date. The guy on the other side of my had Chicken Katsu Curry, which looked really tasty. Next time I go here(if there is a next time) I am getting that.

I need to preface this review with a solid disclaimer: I’m not a big fan of raw fish or seafood, so that right there probably disqualifies this review to many readers, and that’s fair enough. But whereas teriyaki and katsu can often be simple or boring, Kyoto make the non-sea options very, very well for the fish impaired. Not only do they make an absolutely sublime lightly crisp but moist chicken katsu with gorgeous plump udon noodles in a thick and spicy curry sauce that I can’t get enough of, the service is bright and happy and conversational, and the atmosphere is intimate yet artful and comfy. Even all the other boring non-fish types I surround myself with dig into the menu with gusto and relish. And the prices here, very reasonable. It’s easy to overlook this little gem so give it a shot, and have a chat with the staff on the way out, they’re always up for it.

I went here with Prashan R recently for some good ol’ Japanese food. We ordered soft shell crab rolls and a sashimi salad to start. Both we yummy, with the soft shell crab fried nicely. The salad wasn’t quite what I expected as the sauce in the salad didn’t seem quite traditional based on others I’ve tried. But saying this the salad was definitely moreish! Mains we had tempura udon noodles. The serving was generous, with 2 large prawns! Yummo(and no fighting over who got to have the prawn, or making a mess trying to split it!)! The 2nd item we ordered, was actually not Japanese, but Korean — a bimbimbap. Having been to quite a few Japanese restaurants in both Sydney and London, I have come to the realisation that most of them are not actually run by Japanese people(and in Sydney it’s quite often run by Koreans), so even though we were in a Japanese restaurant, we decided it would be ok to get a Korean dish. Have to say, this was not a bad decision, as the bimbimbap was as authentic as others I’ve had in Korean restaurants! In particular, you could tell it was made properly in the earthenware pot as it had that nice layer of crunchy rice that you can only get if done properly! They also had the perfect amount of Korean chilli paste that makes bimbimbap and Korean food so tasty! However, saying that, I swear I overheard the sushi chef speak in Chinese! So maybe it’s run by a mixed bunch of Orientals!

I have a bunch of Asian restaurants in and around Soho on my food wishlist, and used a catch up with my sister to try one of them out. I know Kyoto to be quite popular but we got a table straight away on Wednesday night about 7pm, no booking. Soon after that there was a queue outside. Along with the Japanese seafood pancake for a starter(something I often order and rarely disappointed with, including this time), we ordered 2 rice bowl dishes: — A katsudon — a very large bowl containing a good portion of fried pork, a huge amount of cooked egg(just how I like it!) and surprisingly not padded out with that much rice as I’d expect with such a large bowl. — A similar«don» but with beef(wish i remembered the name). The beef one was wetter than the katsudon, but it wasn’t fried so it make it alright. Still, I preferred the katsudon — who doesn’t like fried goodness?! I should mention the service was excellent. It reminded me of being back in Japan, where in even the cheapest place the service is very polite, efficient and reliable. With some green tea it ended up about £26 in total, and we were both stuffed to the brim and very satisfied. Combine that with jet lag and I was more or less half asleep, but happy! Overall, a very good experience and I will be returning. Everyone raves about the sushi at Kyoto, but I actually didn’t have any of it since my sister«had sushi for lunch»! Whatever… Will have to try this place out again, I guess! I’m sure after that my review will move to 5 stars.

Listen Up! Good value sushi comes in two guises: 1) Pure and simple, go cheap on everything but the fish 2) Fun and funky, let the chef’s imagination hide the rest Kyoto Sushi is the best(2) that I’ve found in London. I’d highly recommend it for a night with friends, fun with your family or perhaps an impressive first date. We ate 4 varied dishes between 2 and paid less than £30 total with tea… and we left VERY full. We had sashimi salad(drowning in that ketchup/mayo thing japanese love on everything), crispy fried baby squid, a massive inside-out soft-shell crab maki roll and then a humongous pork cutlet rice bowl. None disappointed. The squid was fantastic and the massive maki was a roller coaster of textures. Décor is red and pine cool and the place smells gorgeous with lemongrass tealight candles burning all over the place, including in the gents. I’ll let the final word go to all the Japanese students who were there. That’s a good sign. I didn’t see any of them at Nobu.
