Market has been around for years but gradually the quality of stalls has diminished. Still get a reasonable bargain with fruit and veg. Bags and clothing ok.

I agree the fruit and veg I bought at this market (albeit once) was extremely good. And look out for the German sausage van, ohhh yummy !!

it has to be said– lewisham isn’t exactly people friendly– the main rad is deadly. it looks worse now than ever, due to the ongoing development of lewisham in general. don’t, however, let this put you off– the market is one of the finer points of the old place! the fish stall is among the best you can get. you can also get a good pair of shoes here, for half the price of a major retailer

I love Lewisham market. You can get so much quality fruit and veg and it is all very cheap. It is great when I am having a dinner party as I can get everything I need from there. You can always find fresh herbs and unusual types of fruit and veg there and the stall holders are very friendly. I think Lewisham market has a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere that you don’t get in other places. It’s a shame that there aren’t more markets like this around. I much prefer to buy food like this than from the supermarkets where everything looks the same.

This is an excellent library, both for its range of fiction and non-​fiction books, and it’s CDs and DVDs. There’s a good children’s section, and an archive of local history upstairs. I’ve always found the staff helpful.

Cheerful banter and extremely cheap fruit and veg make this market a winner.
Particularly at the moment with food costs rising Lewisham market’s great pound-​a-​bowl system provides ample food at a fraction of the price of the average supermarket.
You won’t find Dick Van Dyke jaunting his way through here but there’s much more soul in this market than you’ll find in any major supermarket and that can make a real difference to your shopping experience.
Lewisham may not be the prettiest place on earth but there’s more to it than meets the eye!
