During our lunch break, my friend and I were trying to figure out where to eat near Argyll St. We were walking, walking, walking, when all of a sudden I was hit with the devastating aroma of WAFFLES. All of a sudden I had to have one. I couldn’t decide what I wanted(there’s a decent array of toppings) so I ended up going with the plain for £2. The waffle was small-ish and came ‘wrapped up’ in a paper plate. It was crispy on the outside and slightly gooey on the inside. Normally that would concern me, as it would seem to be undercooked, but this one didn’t bother me at all. In my head I compare it to the consistency of a perfect chocolate chip cookie — crunchy exterior, soft and chew underneath… ANYWAY, if you’re looking for a sweet treat, check this place out.

I’ll admit it, when I saw that the waffle-and-smoothie kiosk where Argyll St meets Oxford St had begun selling Magic Corn, I definitely giggled.(«Healthy, Juicy, and Nutritious!» the little cartoon Corn Guy on the sign proclaims). Having now tried the delicious little cups of corn, though, and experimented with a variety of their flavourings, I am totally a fan. They still sell their same old waffles as well, but I would rather have a piping hot cup of crazily flavoured corn kernels any day. They somehow extract the kernels without cutting or puncturing the skin. So, each piece is a still-sealed, sweet, juicy, amazingly flavourful little packet of awesomeness. The sour cream & onion flavouring with no butter is my favourite, but I usually opt for«original» flavour(i.e., no flavouring. Just corn-flavoured. Because that’s all it is.). I highly suggest waiting a minimum of 5 minutes before sampling your delicious little cup of corn because the inside juices are AMAZINGLYHOT. I have scalded my poor ol’ tongue way too many times on these little bastards. OHMAN. In Googling«magic corn uk» to find their web address to list on Unilocal,I was treated to a truly awesome low-budget, MIDI-soundtracked video on their website. It’s a 6 – 7 minute introduction to How Corn is Made, and it’s kind of hilarious. I highly suggest watching it. I learned all about the virtues of sweetcorn, «…one of the most fascinating varieties of corn!» as well as the nomenclature for the aforementioned cartoon corn cob… he’s called Mr. Magic, in case you were wondering. Should you require multiple, possibly useless facts on the topic of corn harvesting in Malaysia, check out the website listed above. Your life will be all the richer for having done it. I’ve said the word«corn» too many times. It sounds funny in my head now.
