The place is very cosy, the staff kind and friendly. The food is absolutely fantastic and is very reasonably priced! Will definitely recommend it to all my friends!

Decent but way too over priced for what it is. I had a sushi sashimi bento box which looked impressive on arrival but on closer inspection was a California roll, 4 pieces sashimi and 4 pieces of sushi. The rest of the bento box came covered in lettuce and it cost £17.50! This is definitely a decent place with decent food but I don’t feel I got good value for money so won’t be going back.

Lovely. Decent sushi and noodles! Very loud when we went and busy. But it was a Friday evening. We were lucky to get s seat straight sets but on leaving there was a queue. I’d go again. Normal prices.

We used to live in Brighton and were regulars of a similar, small Japanese restaurant there called Pompoko so it’s nice to find an equivalent in London. Fujiyama has a pretty large menu, including a great range of Sushi and Sashimi. We ordered the Alaskan Rolls, consisting of fresh Salmon and avocado filling, rolled in masago, which at £4.60 for 8 pieces is a bargain. We had some Ebi Gyoza as well, which I highly recommend, they were beautifully crisp and absolutely packed with tiger prawn. The mains we had were good, but I’d almost recommend just ordering a load of sushi and sides instead. Having spent some time in Japan, I can say my Amai Seafood was authentic, if a little oily and Antonia’s Yakitori Don was really good value at £6.95 considering it comes with a Miso soup and pickles.

great location. wagamamas style noodles but better. sushi is maybe a bit over priced but prepared on site by a dedicated sushi chef so maybe not!

I come here or get a takeaway once a week as the sushi is always spot on and very good value for money. When eating in it’s always cosy with a nice atmosphere, it does get busy but that creates a nice vibe. One of my faves in Brixton– the only negative is that the service can sometimes be a bit off, lots of staff but you can’t always get their attention.

Past its glory days. . What used to be a hidden gem in the back streets of Brixton has suddenly turned into a mediocre, badly run restaurant. A really great wide — ranging menu of authentic Japanese food including huge bowls of ramen and platters of sushi. However in recent months there must have been a change in management. Knowledgeable and attentive staff have been replaced with inexperienced serving staff that aren’t too familiar with the menu and make very simple mistakes. During my last 2 recent visits I had a wrong drinks order and a very wrong sushi and sashimi order(I specifically asked for a replacement of one roll for another in a bento box due to an allergy and was instead presented with a double order of both. I was then told that I was wrong in what I thought I ordered!). The food itself has gone downhill from excellent to just OK and the sushi in particular is very disappointing. I used to be a regular and now I know that I will never go back. What a shame!

One of my favourite restaurants in Brixton, and possibly one of my favourite sushi places in London. I’ve been going regularly for around 5 years now, tried most things on their menu and don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed. The rice, noodle and ramen dishes are great when you want something hot, but it is the sushi, in particular the soft shell crab rolls, that have me going back again and again. Its an unassuming place, often a bit of a queue at the door but people tend not to linger too long, so you rarely have to wait more than a few minutes. The staff are polite and efficient, service speed can vary a bit but usually pretty good. Most of the tables downstairs are bench style so you are sharing with others, but this does create a friendly environment. I usually end up getting in to a conversation with other people at my table.

For the price, this place is excellent. £4 for 8 Alaskan rolls, which had a clean fresh flavour and texture. My main of chilli beef on noodles(£7.50) looked a lot like spaghetti, and wasn’t a dish I associated with Japan, but it was very well cooked. It’s a vibrant place, with people squeezed onto shared benches in 2 small rooms. Cosy atmosphere and swift service. If I’m totally honest, while the food is good, it was perhaps a touch forgettable. I wasn’t moved. I feel bad saying that, especially at the price. But that’s my ‘lasting’ impression.

Nom nom nom, I looove sushi, and my friend couldn’t decide what to eat, so she let me be an order nazi and choose all my favourite things for both of us to share… *yay!!* The menu here is amaaazing! They have sushi(both sets and a la carte), bentos, donburi, izakaya-style small dishes, cha-han, curry, fried noodles, ramen… it goes on for pages and pages and could make choosing one dish quite difficult. We chose a few izakaya-type things(tempura, agedashi-dofu, edamame) and then I just ordered lots of my favourite nigiri sushi. The good: — That massive menu! — The meals look huge, IF I came back I’d probably order a bento, noodles or a donburi as they looked really good value. — The staff were friendly, if a bit slow. The less good: — Some of the sushi just wasn’t as fresh as it should be. I chose to eat my hottate(scallop) last, and was really disappointed when my final bite had that fishy-not-so-fresh taste. *sigh* — Lots of the dishes are a bit Chinese-y-style-Japanese. They are still nice, but it’s better if you expect the Chinese influence rather than look forward to really authentic Japanese food. — If you order the sushi a la carte, it ends up pretty expensive, which would have been fine if the sushi quality is as good as I was hoping from the previous happy reviews. — I think they must have overcharged me(I was tipsy so assumed I couldn’t add up at the time) but looking back, even if I round up the price of each dish and add 15% tip… I still think I paid £10 more than I should have…

I came here on date number 2. Hahaa, this place serves great food and the staff were very accommodating to us! They did everything they could to make us happy and the miso soup was DELICIOUS.

This place is a little gem I went here for the first time this weekend with my friend who rates it as her favourite Japanese restaurant. There was a queue out the door and as the night went on it only got bigger. This place is obviously very popular and it is easy to see why. The food is excellent and extremely good value for money. I had the mixed Katsu curry which was seriously moreish and I am salivating again just thinking about it. My friend had sushi which looked amazing. The seating arrangements are bench style and as a result you get a very good view of what everyone else is eating and I had major food envy, particularly at the fantastic platters of sushi, which most customers had the sense to order. I found the service to be pretty good, although my friend has said it can be slow at time. Either way I can’t wait to come back here again and I will definitely be ordering the sushi!

We got the Shake Ramen as takeaway one evening so I can’t comment on the dining in experience. The broth was tasty with miso paste and the ramen noodles were fresh and al dente. But the salmon was overcooked — hard and dry — and there was very little veg which was disappointing. I’d still go back and try and rest of the menu though!

It’s easy to get sidetracked by one of the many delightful food vendors in Brixton Village market, but if you can make it through to the other side then just a road or two away is this delicious local gem, Fujiyama deals in both sushi and hot Japanese dishes, but the former is definitely superior to the latter. While the hot food is far from dreadful, it doesn’t punch much above a Wasabi/Wagamama standard of flavour. On the other hand, the sushi menu is huge and the sushi itself is fresh, tender and delicious. If you want to go all out, you could end up spending a fortune here. But with a little careful planning and utilisation of some of the set platters, you can stuff yourself silly for a reasonable price. Service is polite and efficient and the layout is charming and relaxed. While Fujiyama would earn an easy 4 based on the above, I’m deducting a star due to the somewhat less than accessible bathroom arrangement. Tucked away in an upstairs corner beyond a slightly dodgy staircase, it’s a little awkward in general and could pose an obstacle for some. In spite of this, I’m sure I’ll be happily returning to Fujiyama in the future.

Where Wagamamas is consistent(if not average), very bright and inpersonal, Fujiyama is our local Japanese spot which is, in comparison, consistently very good and fresh, intimately set(despite its size) and a fun place to be, with locals and visitors alike queueing for a quick dinner during the week. Their made to order sushi is really very very good(and I’m not a huge sushi fan), and people rave about their bento boxes and salad. I tend to opt for the don buri meals or noodles — they’re so damn tasty and value for money — accompanied by some gyoza. One downside of Brixton’s expanding food culture(and foodie migrants/visitors) is that there tends to be queue of an evening these days, especially on those nights the Brixton Village is closed(Mon-Weds), but you are able to book, which is a bonus. Or us locals can order in, because they deliver.

Thanks for our London CM Josephine B for organising the South Side UYE on Friday. I was unable to get a table to eat at Satay, where we met, so I snuck off for a bite to eat The first thing to say is that I was pleasantly surprised by the range of food available along Coldharbour Lane, ranging from Thai to Caribbean to Italian. However, my trusty Unilocal app had alerted me to Fujiyama round the corner. I’m always partial to a bit of Japanese! It was quite busy when I arived but I was offered a place at the counter. Sadly, there were no sushi chefs working behind this counter to watch prepare the food. Instead, all the food came out of a kitchen at the back. The only trouble with dining alone is how to get a range of different dishes to try. I settled for the sashimi bento box which came with 4 pieces of California roll and 9 pieces of sashimi — 3 each of salmon, tuna and a white fish that Ithink was sea bass The food arrived impressively fast considering how busy the restaurant was. My bowl of miso soup was dark and salty and warm enough to ward off the chill of a London November evening. The accompaniments in the bento box weren’t the best — the salad tasted of French dressing rather than the sesame dressing you’d expect in a Japanese restaurnt and the Japanese pickles seemed a bit dessicated. Fortunately, the sushi was great and I particularly enjoyed the sashimi even is the ultra thin slices did make me hanker for more. I wouldn’t travel to eat sushi here but as I left happy with a smile on my face, Fujiyama gets 4 stars

I love this place! It’s cute but busy, cosy but not cramped. The Bento boxes are my fave, along with the salads, oh and the soups are good, and the noodles are to die for… ah who am I kidding I’ll eat it all! I recently took a friend who’s lived in Japan and was very impressed, this has got to give it serious brownie points right? Don’t expect intimate one-to-one service as it’s always busy, and this isn’t an ideal romantic date setting, due to the long-ish shared tables(you shouldn’t be whispering sweet nothings across a long table now really?) But the food is amazing and well priced for the quality and portions. Top Tips; 1 — Sake; an essential 2 — Salmon Teriaki; bento box, salad, noodles — all good 3 — Sushi; get a selection to start, it’s only about £3 for 2⁄3 pieces if you want to make your own platter, otherwise there’s various sharer options

Ever since my no love sushi debacle at Gatwick,( ) I’ve been craving the stuff like a Unilocaler with no Internet connection. In my state of cold turkey I trotted into Fujiyama to feed my sushi baby. Being the little piggy that I am, I can’t just have a few pieces I want a bit of everything, so on my waiters recommendation I went for the Sushi and Sashimi Bento box. Owww wee, it was good looking! My miso came out first, delivered by one of the multiple chefs — impressive no? And it was. I don’t say what I am about to say lightly, but it was by far one if the best soups I’ve tasted in a long time. Good start. Less than 10 minutes later my box of fishy goodness arrived,(I never thought I’d ever say those two words in the same sentence) again I must reiterate how beautifully presented it was. I’m not going to even bothering say I just wanted to look at it because we all know that so gorgeous things are made that way for a purpose outside of the visual alone. The food was delectable but I do feel that rather than pacifying the hungry, I have just made the child bigger! So be prepared, there maybe a deluge of similar reviews on the way because mi-so love sushi!

Reasonable prices, excellent food, noodles in soup, dry, stir-fried, curried, or anything. This is what you want when you go to wagamama. Big, bursting flavours. Meat you can see. Variety. Waitrons not leaning all up in your face to write on your mat. Just go here. On second thought, don’t. It’s right by my house and I love it too much. Go to Dalston and find your own noodle place. Just enough of you come here to keep the owners busy and happy.

Fujiyama do really inexpensive noodles. If you live in the Brixton area, they even deliver to your door — perfect. Unfortunately we don’t live anywhere near Brixton but if I did I’d probably be about 3 stone heavier! I’ve been in here only a few times when passing through Brixton. They have meat, veggie and seafood options — my favourite are the seafood noodles — yum! Definitely come here before a night out or even just to visit if you are in Brixton, these guys are noodle experts! Yummy!
