A very pleasant lunch + managed to pick up a few groceries! I was meandering around the area, in search of something non-chain-like for a quick lunch. I ran smack into Orrery Epicerie, and am very glad I did. Tip: look to the right when you are standing in front of the case, they have all the made-to-order selections there. I didn’t realize and just picked something from the case. Which ended up being quite good! I had a Croque Monsieur(served hot with a small tomato on top) with a side salad of arugula, avocado, mozzarella and tomato. To follow it I tried a small chocolate fudge cookie and cappuccino. I enjoyed it outside on the quiet corner, taking in the people strolling about. It’s counter ordering and table service… all the food was quite tasty, and served quickly. As I was paying my bill inside, I noticed the nice selection of packaged foods and picked up noodles, sauce, beef stock, chicken stock and a few little treats for home. I was most impressed with the staff: extremely friendly. Particularly the girl that rang me up at the end made it a very pleasant experience. Just what I needed! A very pleasant lunch indeed — I wouldn’t hesitate to stop back in for a quick and casual meal or to pick up a few things for a nice dinner or gift for a foodie!

Damn it. I knew I should have aborted when I inquired whether or not they had any takeaway sandwiches and was directed to a small basket which contained a grand total of three sandwiches, each of a different variety. I figured I’d gone out of my way to check out Orrery Epicerie, so I might as well grab a sandwich to go, but my gaze kept straying longingly to the glass case containing a massive variety of mouthwatering-looking salads. Plus, the handful of others in the shop were seated at counters with plates full of gustatory goodness. So with my £4 ham, gruyère, and mayo sandwich in tow, I headed back to the office to see whether or not it was worth the cost. And the verdict is… quite reasonable! With fresh, chewy bread to balance out the very savoury meat and cheese contained within, my hunger was satisfied about halfway through the meal. By the time I finished, I felt like I’d overeaten just a bit. Story of my life… I’d be interested in going back to Orrery Epicerie, but only for an eat-in meal with some selections from the salad bar. In addition to deli offerings, there’s a massive shelf of various gourmet food products like oils and vinegars as well. It’s certainly worth a browse, and quite a quiet getaway for the lunchtime rush around Marylebone.

Popped in for Sunday lunch, after the adjacent ‘Cabbages and Frocks’ Saturday market and chose 4 salads from the large selection for about 7 pounds a plate, absolutely fabulous, fresh & varied food, followed by a cappucino made in heaven. Wish I lived closer I’d make it a weekly event.

I found myself here one wintery afternoon and popped in for a large bowl of butternut soup with crusty french bread and butter. The soup was thick and slightly peppery — perfect comfort food. This is the deli that it part of the main restaurant which is part of the Conran chain. It felt a bit more Carluccios to me with similar type of croissants and cakes on display. The lunch menu is a variety of freshly made baguettes and salads. I generally tend to ignore pates and hanging salamis but that gives it a real deli flavour. If I lived closer, I would make this place my regular Sunday morning coffee and newspaper corner. It’s a bit overpriced but then this is Marylebone.
