On the main road of Kensington Church Street, near High Street Kensington end, with quite heavy traffic of buses, lorries and cars etc. It has a few tables outside, so imagine the fumes. The restaurant is tiny, and as you enter the whiff of the garlic cooking is welcoming, but you literally walk into 6 small tables along one wall, and on the opposite side the restaurant counter/bar leading into the kitchen, to the right of the entrance is some narrow stairs leading up to the first floor which is a much nicer and spacious area, especially on a hot summer’s evening, the ground floor with its closely packed tables is very intimate, but also quite hot. They were doing a swift trade of take-aways though. The welcome by the proprietor was not very welcoming, but rather grumpy, may be because we had the set menu deal with kgbdeals. When I telephoned to double check my booking on the day, he told me they did not have my booking, but I could just turn up anytime anyway(not what the T&Cs said!). However, his mood seems to lighten up as the evening went on, as he saw how much we were enjoying the meal, as it turned out to be not bad at all, fresh and tasty and good portions. The waitress was very attentive too and pleasant. I would go back again for the set menu deal as it was good value, and the ambience was comfortable and relaxing.

Had a good diced salmon with orange sauce here. Would recommend the place for a friend.

Visited Romano’s for the third time today, all lunches, and ordered pizza for the first time there. It was delicious-ham, cheese, mushroom, olive, artichoke and diced potato(the Olimpiade) and I couldn’t think of a single way to improve it. Beautifully cooked, generously sized and every inch covered in toppings. Every visit has been extremely pleasant-the staff are lovely, the ambience is great(although it is a little cramped at times) and the location is fantastic. A great way to round off a morning’s antique hunting in Kensington Church Street or at Portobello.

Not the best Italian I’ve eaten. I figured since everyone was speaking Italian it would be good. My friend had the milestone which smelled and looked wonderful, turns out it was the best dish we ordered. Her spaghetti was only so so and my chicken dish was pretty bland but I was really craving some kind of meat. The restaurant was very small and intimate. It was nice and quiet a good place to have a conversation. It was at least nice to venture out a little further onto High street. Don’t think we will be coming back. If someone else in our party wanted to try it I would definitely order a pizza to try that.

We walked in during lunch with only two customers in the place. We came in by seeing a sign for 6 pound pasta dishes. We opted for those, but the dishes weren’t that good. It was small and I probably finished my dish in less than 2 minutes. The bread that came with the table tasted like supermarket bread. The server wasn’t as attentive as we hoped, but it was a cute and quaint place to go and eat for lunch

Pretty street. Waiter was at first seemed grumpy but turned out to be nice. Had spaghetti bolognese at lunchtime — about 8 or 9GBP. Pretty good — not the best not the worst I’ve had. Solid and good portion. Seems a little upscale but prices and plastic tableclothes tell you — your money is welcome here.

as an Italian i have some expectations when i order Italian food. thought the menu looked OK and the people working there were speaking Italian, so no problem from this side. but the food was not really good, the pasta was soft(al dente please!) and a no-go was the cheddar cheese on top of it… pasta and cheddar? no way!!! my friend had tasteless ravioli swimming in butter. a lunch to forget

Tonight was my second visit to Romano’s with my hubby. We actually loved our second visit more than the first. Similar to our first visit, my hubby’s pizza was super delicious. I’m not a huge pizza/Italian food fan(stop gasping!) so I ordered steamed spinach as well as mixed veggies. Sound bland and boring? Nope, the garlic covered veggies were actually very yummy. Romano’s 12£ bottles of house wine and their service can’t be beat and I’m already looking forward to our next visit. Is heading to the same restaurant two nights in a row acceptable?! :)

The service was great, and the overall experience at Romano’s was really pleasant, but I didn’t do the best job ordering. My husband ordered a gnocci dish which was amazing though! I thought the prices were very reasonable, too!
