Thanks to Unilocal for directing us to a great spot. This was a coffee shop(and bar!) I could imagine staying in for a long time. The flat white was delicious, and the great music(house, progressive) was great to get our groove on. The space is a bit narrow, so it sometimes got awkward when other people were at the cashier since we were sitting across from it, but I think any other spot in the house would be great. I didn’t take a peak downstairs, but there’s a bar downstairs that also sells alcoholic drinks.

Love this spot. Strong, creamy espresso — just how I like it! Cute spot with a nice industrial vibe. A bit tight on seating… I wish there were more non bar spots. When going for just a coffee, it’s not super cosy. But free WiFi and their pastries looked fab. Looking forward to going back for an espresso martini!

Decent coffee. Basement sitting area slightly claustrophobic due to no natural light. Very loud music — felt like a speakeasy-type bar, but with no alcohol. Depends on what you want I guess in a coffee bar! Nothing special here for me.

I’ve never even had coffee here but I love coming to this place for a cocktail and sitting at the upstairs bar. I love a coffee shop that turns into a bar at night and this place has that we-turned-the-lights-down-at-the-diner feel. They always give you some sort of nibble on the house, drinks are good, music is a funky mix. It’s never been too crowded at all when I’ve been there in the evenings.

Definitely up there with the best coffee in London. It’s quite strong, but they do a great latte and the atmosphere is great fun. It’s always one of my first stops with Aussie guests looking for a good flat white. Conveniently located in the centre of soho and not far from Oxford Street, this is my go-to inner city caffeine stop. It’s only small, so not really convenient for a brunch with several friends and the downstairs bar is a little dingy, but for a quick coffee with one friend, or a takeaway, it’s perfect!

The number of indie coffee shops in the Central London area has seemed to have a big of a boom, and this place — part of one of my favorite chains — popped up recently. The staff are always happy to have a chat with you while making your coffee, super friendly and pretty darn cute! Follow the neon lighting down the stairs into the coolest, fairly snug, bar. You have to order food in order to purchase drinks, but they do a great range of tapas style snacks that are great for sharing. If you pick up a black loyalty card from the coffee shop upstairs, they do a special deal certain nights of the week with all cocktails for a fiver! Bargain!

I wanted an independent coffee shop in Soho, so did a search on Unilocal and came across Soho Grind. What an amazing find. I came here for a catch up with a friend during the day and it was amazing, the space downstairs is cosy and quiet enough to have a good catch up with no disturbances. The coffee was proper coffee, none of this chain store stuff. Really bitter but I loved it, they also has soya milk which I loved as I am dairy intolerant so can’t always find a independent coffee shop that serves soya or alternative dairy free milk. That’s a big win for me. We didn’t eat anything but if I am in the area I wil come back here!

There is a downstairs area is offering booze. I like this in a coffee shop. The coffee is also not bad.

I usually grab a coffee and a custard tart from here in the morning. The coffee is strong, bitter, and delicious. I’ve had friends who find it a bit too bitter, but I like my coffee strong, so this works for me. On this particular occasion I went with a couple of friends after work for some drinks and chat. The downstairs bar is relatively quiet during the week if you head directly there round 6ish. I’ve been here before for drinks and never had to order food, but it would appear they have got more strict on this policy. This is ok though, as they offer a great selection of bruschetta and meat platters, all which go well with beer and wine! The atmosphere is really laid back, and the service very attentive. You’re also still able to order delicious coffees and hot chocolates while you’re down there should you fancy it. Bonus!

Nice relaxed café, though not much space. The coffee is ideal for my tastes — good flavour and not too bitter. Prices are reasonable for central London/Soho And my almond croissant also contains chocolate! That was a very welcome surprise.

I came across this on a very cold Sunday by means of the wonderful Unilocal app. I needed a coffee badly and the other options were packed out with similar coffee needing persons. Soho grind is an eclectic and individual space, with utterly brilliant coffee(see Alex’s superior review below). They also do these very small cakes and pastries which were incredibly moorish– sadly I can’t recall the names. Three fitted comfortably on one saucer. We sat downstairs which is distinctly cool, with b & w photos and a long wall table with stools perfect if the other tables are taken. The music was a tad loud but I liked what they played. Very recommemded when faced with a sea of «Costabucks» clones.

Just a quick note. The staff is amazing and very friendly. The latte was tasty but STAYAWAY from the shitiest Italian wine that I ever tasted. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name… This is a coffee shop. Stay away from the wine list.

Soho Grind makes me happy. Not so much the coffee, which it must be said is perfectly decent and fairly-priced. No, I’m more a fan of its fantastic 1970s rock soundtrack and cosy bar downstairs. Said downstairs bar is softy-lit, with candles and retro-filament bulbs. There are even plenty of wall sockets for laptop users. Prudes may wish to avert their eyes as the decorations are slightly Soho, with a mass of nude photographs adorning the walls. The bonus is the excellent sound system and consistently awesome 1970s rock soundtrack, with the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Free, The Who pouring out of the speakers when we were there. We definitely stayed for quite a bit longer than we otherwise would have as a result, lapping it al up. For those interested, the coffee is Espresso-only, and their own brand. Pricing is the usual e.g. £2.70 for a flat white, a little less for a latte etc. Good quality and well made too. They also serve beer, cocktails and food, none of which we tried. My abiding memory of Soho Grind is the downstairs bar though, which is what I’d return for.

Another great find of London Cocktail Week. My friend is a big fan of espresso martinis and familiar with the other branches of this chain, but who knew that Soho Grind was so great for cocktails and even has a nice bar downstairs? The upstairs part looks like a normal small coffee shop, with a few stools along the wall but not much room for maneuver. There were some snacks available at the counter, and even a block of what looked like prosciutto. We originally ordered our drinks at the counter here, but a waitress brought them up from the bar downstairs, and eventually we wandered down and found a lovely cozy little area and 4 spare seats at the bar. The room probably only seats about 12 – 15 people, but on Saturday night it was not packed by any means, and it is a type of place where you would go catch up with 2 – 3 friends, and probably move on if there are no available seats. The espresso martini was delicious and my friends went on to order the flat white Russians and a fruity cocktail, which were also very well received. I stuck to the espresso martini, which was so strong on the caffeine that it had me buzzing. They have about 7 – 8 options on the cocktail menu, and it also appears to have several lunch/dinner options so I guess they have a full kitchen as well. So happy with this find and would love to come here again.

I have yet to try the boozy offerings that Alex S. touts as tasty, but I’ve been through here for coffee several times, always around 7:30am. I’m a morning lark by necessity rather than by free will and this little place happens to be on my walk to the bus stop, and who can resist the cosy, warm-wood interior? It’s definitely a cute, welcoming place. I’ve found the staff to be uniformly friendly and attitude-free, which is great. Like several other places, the morning crew really cranks up the music to get themselves going, and I find it a bit much when I’m still half-groggy, but that’s totally a matter of personal preference and has no bearing on my rating. The upstairs coffee bar area is very snug; you can perch at the window counter and down your drink, but there’s nowhere to, say, sit down to check a few e-mails on your laptop unless you’re using something truly dinky. Even then, people will be practically on top of you, so let’s just write it off as the sort of place you can linger and consider it more a grab-and-go joint. As for the coffee, it’s always expertly-made, but I just don’t dig their espresso. From the flavour profile, it’s very heavy on Ethiopian beans, so if you like a very bright, very citrusy, very clean espresso with a thin body, this is for you. I like South American beans in my espresso with more subdued, warmer, nutty tones and a fuller body, but I seem to be sort of alone in this.(I’m ironically a huge fan of Ethiopian coffee in the French press, but I find it far too«sour» in milk-based drinks.) I certainly can’t fault the execution, though. My two-stars-off gripe is the price; my morning drink is a soya flat white, and usually that’s around £2.50-£2.80 in Soho. Here, that runs me £3.20. A flat white is a tiny drink; paying that much for it just feels extortionate, and while I get why places charge extra for soya, it rubs me the wrong way. I assure you, I’d rather not have to settle for soy either, guys. No need to fine me for it. I prefer their soya to Fernandez & Welles’, but since I don’t love their espresso, I find the price hike difficult to stomach. Non-soya drink prices are in line with other local establishments. As an aside, like so many places in London, the layout here is not accessible to anyone with mobility concerns. It’s particularly important to note that the tunnel-like layout of the bar and counter areas would make it difficult not just for a wheelchair user but for anyone using canes or crutches, and there is very little space for a pram.

Great music taste, delicious coffee and very nice staff. It’s a bit small for hanging around with friends, but the bar sitting area is good enough for a little chat and enjoying tasty cappuccino with one or two friends.

I like this spot. I’ve been a giant fan of Shoreditch Grind in, well, Shoreditch for a while now. I think they do excellent coffee, cocktails in the evening and have a nice vibe that’s welcome to everyone from hipsters to dudes in a suit. Soho Grind is similar, but it’s actually separated these two crowds out into two spaces. Upstairs — great coffee shop. And I mean great coffee, some of the best in the city. Strong, rich, amazing. I was also there for breakfast and they do really nice in-house pastries. I got a ham and tomato sandwich on a croissant. Woah. Simple but they do something to it that made it seriously blow me away(it was messy as hell as it was deliciously flaky and every bite caused me to use my napkin to get bits off my face, but it was worth it.) It’s much smaller than Shoreditch Grind but there are tables in the back and a few stools up against the front window. Oh and free wifi that doesn’t even need a passcode. Win. Now, downstairs is the other side of The Grind. This is their bar area, complete with retro b&w photographs of naked models on the wall. Again, it’s a small space, but not to be missed, especially if you’re going to do the espresso Martini. I’ve done many an espresso Martini in my day and this, this, this here is the top five, if not the best one in the city. Exactly the way one should be — sweet but not too sweet, shockingly caffeinated, made with top of the line coffee and even had a few coffee beans floating on top. Oh yes. If you’re a fan of coffee, don’t miss this spot. Hell, just if you like Soho in general, this is a place to be.

We walked by accident in this café seeking a place where we could have a nice strong coffee without having to wait on a queue for hours or paying through our noses or having to go through the whole. make it your self café(aka we didn’t want starbucks or Nero)… Little did we know about his little coffee heaven The coffee was absolutely amazing… I had a ristreto and i was surprised on how good it was… Veeeery. strong and aromatic. Topping that out was the great selection of home made cakes and pastries… I personally did.not.try but. one of my friends did and made sure we. could hear her while. she was enjoying it(aka mmmmmmmmmmmmmm) Really worth your time if you want to have a coffee in the city
