My colleagues and I went back, and I must say that Taberna Etrusca has won me over this time. We got set menu 2, of which I chose the raviolis for starter, scallops for main and lemon ice cream for dessert. Everything was phenomenal and served right on time despite the fact that the restaurant was packed with businessmen and their holiday lunches. I particularly liked the fresh lobster packed in my raviolis and the creamy sauce that complemented the scallops very well. Service was prompt, and the staff were generally friendly despite the frenzy of peak lunch hours. In particular, the gentleman that seemed to be the owner had a great sense of humour, and we enjoyed our exchanges with him. Overall, a great place for corporate events and personal intimate meals alike.

Ah, my old friend Taberna Etrusca, a traditional Italian in the heart of the City that’s been popular for ages, partly for its slightly old fashioned approach(crisp but faded linen tablecloths, enthusiastic maitre d’ and a dessert trolley). Although the restaurant is usually packed to the brim at lunchtimes, the recession is clearly biting so now if you go early, you can probably still get a table for four without booking ahead — unless it’s Friday. I like this place as a bit of a no-nonsense treat. The food is reliably delicious and the wine list decent. It’s just off Bow Lane so plenty of places to decamp to if a post-prandial sharpener is required.
