Terrible service and below average food. Was expecting great things but substandard and will never go back. The servers were awful. We were told the dessert would come in 20 mins and 50 mins later there was still nothing and the staff was totally unapologetic

Stopped here for a lunch on a week day. Food was good, and beer selection was decent. It was winter, and the main room was very cold the day I was there. The wait staff was not especially attentive even though I was the only person there for quite some time. The décor is more modern than I like in a pub.

Great for a Sunday roast with a group of people. Order a selection and the whole thing comes out on massive platters. The downside, during the week the menu is a bit too pricey for what you get and they include a 12.5% ‘optional’ service charge which DOESNOT go to the staff, restaurant management keep it. In summary: come for Sunday lunch, don’t pay the service charge.

Great Sunday lunch, sat out in the small beer garden. While service was a little slow, and the chairs can’t tuck under the tables outside so you’re sat quite far away, the food more than makes up for it. I had two types of pork, with many trimmings. One of the, if not the only Sunday lunch I’ve had which was close to a good home made one — no wafer thin meat and soggy roast potatoes here Would definitely go again.

Love this restaurant. Loads of gluten free options so you don’t have to miss out on fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding, etc. when you are gluten intolerant in London. Everything we had was SO good!

Woohoo!!! Finally got around to eating at Truscott Arms last night. I have some relo’s here from Aus who were staying in the Paddington area, I was a little selfish and didn’t want to be too far from my place. So I decided to walk them through the canals to Truscott Arms. On Monday’s they have a quiz night, so we decided to sit outside in the beer garden, which FYI is heated and for the most part covered, so even if it was raining you could still sit out there. I settled on the fish and chip. The entire menu has loads of gluten free options, which is a winner in my book. My relatives got the meat platter which looked amazing. The fish was super crunchy, and the chips were thick and delicious. I would highly recommend it. All in all this place offer’s great service, and super tasty meals. I will definitely be back before I make the move south side.

We came to The Truscott Arms while on our honeymoon in London in September after hearing about their gluten free menu. As someone with a wheat allergy, I hadn’t had fish & chips in ages, so the idea of eating this meal made me supremely happy! The service was fantastic, sitting in the back garden was beautiful, and we had a lovely chat with the manager. But the food… oh the food! The food was divine! The GF fish and chips were absolutely stellar — we still speak of it fondly almost a year later. I only wish I had more time to make more trips there and try more of the menu. When we come back to London again, The Truscott Arms will most certainly be a «MUST» on the to-do list! Thank you, Truscott Arms for such a wonderful experience and for filling such a large need for those of us who have a rather onerous dietary restriction!

I went for their Sunday roast for a friend’s bday lunch. First, the food was solid. We ordered an assortment of ham and bread for starter, then a combination of beef/lamb/pork Sunday roast. I quite enjoyed the starter — all the hams were fresh, and the bread was on the dot as well. As for the Sunday roast itself, the portions were healthy and there was a good balance of meat and veggies to leave all twelve-plus people happily full. Service was okay, though I feel like things could have been served faster. Granted, we were a big party, but given that they had taken our order a few days prior, I find no excuse for the relatively big gaps between courses. Finally, ambience was nice. We had a room to ourselves on(I believe) the top floor. The room was spacious and reasonably private with simple but tasteful decorations. All in all, a great place for a Sunday roast!

Wanted to try a Sunday Roast somewhere new from our traditional haunt and wasn’t disappointed. We went for the Lamb Roast since one usually doesn’t see that option. The Lamb was perfectly done; flavorful and not dry. The veggies weren’t the best I had had in a roast but they weren’t disappointing either. The real hit was the Yorkshire pudding and the extra container of gravy that came with. The presentation was nice as well, showing up on a carving board with a little catch around the outside for juices and gravy.

I have mixed feelings about our lunch out here. While the food was good for the most part, the atmosphere was a bit frenetic. It was a full house of families out for Sunday lunch and some children were crying. We were lucky to be seated at a small table around the corner, in the shadows. The menu said there were no yorkshires, which put me in a state of panic. But it turned out the yorkshires were back on after all. Panic averted. We both ordered a roast lunch: I chose the beef and my wife went for turkey. I was happy with the presentation of the food when it arrived. A huge platter with the meats we chose and a generous helping of all of the trimmings. They should really have a good quality photo of this on billboards in London: people would be happier. It’s good this way as everyone can take as much as they need without worrying about leaving any on their plate. It was plenty for the both of us. I was pleased with my roast beef. While it was a bit more well done than I prefer, I liked the layer of tasty fat on the outer edge. The turkey was disappointingly dry and we didn’t finish it. The roast potatoes had a good crunch and fluffy on the inside. Tasty and good for soaking up the gravy. Of course, I look towards the yorkshires as a highlight of the meal and these did not disappoint. I’ve seen bigger elsewhere, but these had a good balance between crunch and substance.

Les«roasted gnocchi with wild mushroom and parmesan» étaient tout simplement à tomber. Miam !

Read about this pub on a few gluten free blogs, but it was a recommendation from the couple we were staying with that pushed us to finally go. We were staying in Maida Vale so it was a quick walk to this neighbourhood pub that is making a name for itself. Food was cheap by London standards, but coming from Canada, it was definitely not a cheap meal. But my word was it delicious. I had the burger(on a gf bun) and the wife had the fish and chips(with gf) batter. Drinks were amazing as well. I think this place will be a perennial favourite anytime we visit London.

We came to The Truscott Arms for Sunday Roast after hearing it had been named the best roast in town. The venue was pretty busy and they’d had a power outage so production of the food was very slow. The menu was slightly different to that online but it was good! There was no chicken roast which I was disappointed about as I was really craving roast chicken! Instead I had the Turkey and as I’m allergic to onion I couldn’t have the gravy so the turkey was somewhat tasteless and dry without the gravy. The other three I was with had the beef of which there was a lot of meat! It was good, nicely pink and subtly seasoned. The best part was actually the way it was served which was all the meat on one platter and all the veges on another and you just helped yourself. It was like a good Sunday Roast at home which was really nice! The potatoes were delicious! Perfectly roasted crispy potatoes. The carrots and turnip were nice and the kale was an interesting addition too. Those that had the gravy said it was a bit watery, but I think that might be a trait of the UK in general? It’s quite expensive though so be prepared for a bit of a hit on the wallet. The dessert menu wasn’t as vast as it could’ve been and the sticky toffee pudding had already run out even though it was only 8pm, guess it was very popular earlier in the day! The dining room itself is absolutely beautiful, the roof is that classic old style, just stunning. The booths are a bit annoying though as if someone in the next booth moves, the entire seat will shake and feel like it’s going to give way from under you. Overall it was a good dining experience, but I’m probably not going to rush back as it wasn’t ‘exceptional’. Worth a try though for sure! and the way of serving the roast is absolutely a novelty and we really enjoyed that!

Gluten free paradise!!! Worth the trek to try their fish and chips. The batter was perfectly crisp and SO delicious that I wanted more!!! Just a 5 minute walk from the underground station, it was a quick easy trip and worth it!!! I only wish I could go back during this visit. Delectable, delicious and delightful– it’s a celiac dream!!!

The Truscott Arms is everything a Gastropub should be and more. They have a huge selection of gluten-free options and whether you are gluten-free or not, the food is excellent. It is definitely worth the trip to Maida Vale and I left wishing that this was my local. I suggest making reservations in advance. I did not and was offered a heated patio or an hour and forty-five minute wait. I chose to go with the heated patio which I wish was enclosed! The patio has a roof and three walls but it didn’t stop my feet from becoming a bit numb over the course of my leisurely meal. Tried the beef shin chips, Sunday Roast and fish & chips during my visit. The beef shin chips were 5 hearty tender meat«fries» that have been formed, dipped in polenta and fried. Really flavourful and I was glad to have ordered it as it took a while to get our mains. They were worth the wait though. The Sunday Roast was pretty epic! We ordered beef, pork and lamb and it was served family style for sharing. The portions were really generous and both the pork and lamb came served two ways. As a tender pulled version and as slices of meat. It was served with potatoes that were ever so perfectly cooked in duck fat. Crisp and golden on the outside, soft and almost fluffy on the inside. The roasted carrots and parsnips were caramelised and full flavoured. There were also green beans, but those just seemed to be there. Nothing special but just fresh green beans. The gravy was delicious also! I can’t speak for the pork but the lamb meats and beef were both quite delicious. I preferred the pulled version of the lamb so you might want to save that for last. I heard the Yorkshire puddings were tasty from my dining companions but they have yet to create a gluten free one(apparently in the works) As for the fish and chips, the fish was a nice portion of tender flakey white fish with crispy batter which had a mild beer taste. The chips were just good chips! I left smiling like a Cheshire Cat and I am sure to return very soon.

Even after reading the reviews, it was nicer than I expected. We had a reservation for the dining room upstairs, which has a different menu. Our main disappointment was that we weren’t allowed to order from the downstairs bar menu because they came from different kitchens, and our gluten-free party member had really wanted GF fish and chips. However, we made do, and she said it was the best meal she had had in her week in London so far. It’s so much more than«pub food». The portions, at least for the upstairs, are not huge, so three courses is a good-sized meal, not two. I had the cornish crab and cucumber soup, which tasted like summer personified. And then the cod, which was also great. Then at the end, I ordered the cheese plate, and it came later than the other desserts because… it had to come from a different kitchen. HMMMM.

Quite nice pub — it was re-done and got new management in 2012÷13… and this pub became something slightly nicer than just a local maida hill pub. Filtered water(still or sparkling) for free, real coffee espresso machine and full selection of alcohol along with gastro-pubby food… It has a large space and some seating in front as well as back. Lunch /dinner is okay — it is not bad and well put but quite expensive for pub food and quite small in portions… I tried burger and it was nothing so special but think it was around £15?! Was not convinced that it was that great of a burger… What I like is breakfast — they serve breakfast from very early hours and simple, not too expensive and good quality ingredients… more than what you get in a café. Anyway, a good pub to hang around in you are in the area.

How did I hear about the Truscott Arms? Two of my friends had their leaving drinks here. So not really a happy place for me but I must say I still liked this place. You can book tables which is a plus and then the food which is very very tasty! I had Gnocchi with wild mushrooms and parmesan and it was absolutely delicious! But careful: huge portions so only order it when you are starving! I was a bit sad about the fact that they don’t have strawberry cider and no pear cider either. I tied the apple cider which didn’t really convince me so diet coke it was after. I guess that’s a good thing too.

The Truscott Arms in Maida Vale is a newly opened pub, gastro pub, or bar, or restaurant, or gallery, or something in between. The interior of the downstairs pub area is simple, which is fine for me. It does not look like your typical old-fashioned pub. I found my table a little bit chilly and cold, but in general I quite liked the place. The staff are very friendly but could be more knowledgable. As The Truscott Arms put together a kind of posh burger, I was asked by the bar staff how I would like the burger. That is always good to ask, I then asked back how they would recommend it, and the guy was not quite sure what to say and recommended medium at the end. It was the first day they served food, so perhaps it was just unlucky, but this question should not cause any irritation when you are serious about an upmarket burger. The burger came and was fine. The bun holds everything together very well, perhaps because the burger is on the small side. What really baffled me was that they serve the burger with ten, yes, about ten, thick cut chips. At least the wooden board came with a tasty dip for the chips. But some of the chips were not cooked through and still a little bit raw. Altogether, the burger was really very good, but they should work on the cooking and the sizing of the chips. After my main I asked for the dessert menu. That menu never came — fair enough, it’s a pub, so you probably cannot expect too much. But then the staff could have said that I should go to the bar, right? After some waiting I finally walked over and asked for desserts at the bar. Even though the desserts are not on the bar menu, the guy at the bar checked with the kitchen and confirmed that I could order any dessert from the regular restaurant menu. Great news, so I ordered the panna cotta with strawberries. It was a good choice and tasted delicious. Seriously good. However, I also ordered a coffee, a flat white, and was quite disappointed what they made with the Union beans. Obviously, latte art is not their strength, unfortunately, it tasted as it looked. So far, The Truscott Arms is a mixed bag for me. I like the simple and clean style of the place. That they also run a gallery and art events sounds promising. I am confident that they will get more routine after being open for a few weeks, so some of my notes might be due to the fact that they just opened. They also encouraged me to provide feedback on their feedback cards — I think a very good move, they are really interested in making this place a great place. I read surprising news about their chips in the last few days, so I should probably go back soon and see if I should update my review. The little issues aside, I enjoyed my dinner there and I will definitely go to The Truscott Arms again.
