I queued for what felt like years* at the BSFA but it was totally worth it. Queueing doesn’t seem so bad when you can see the cooks constantly making more of what they’re selling — there’s no doubt about whether or not it’s fresh! Having gazed at them longingly while in the queue, I came to the conclusion that the arepa would taste like an English muffin. It didn’t. It tasted kind of unusual, with a texture quite different to bread and a tangy flavour I couldn’t place. The Peruvian pork filling was tender, soft and juicy. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for these guys at further street food events, and I’d be sure to visit if they ever set up shop in Manchester. * There’s a chance this is hyperbole. It probably wasn’t years.
