Browns is now a lovely bar/restaurant but was a former bank. Still has a lot of its original features. Friendly environment. Friendly staff. There was 12 of us and we managed to get a seat no problem. They had a good selection of wine from £16+ which for Manchester city centre isnt bad. They have a weekly deal which is advertised as a 2 course meal fir £11.95 Sunday to Thursday. And cocktails £5 Monday to Friday. So i will definitely be going back.

had a lovely dinner in Browns! I got the Lamb cutlets and shepherd’s pie for dinner was that were yummy! The building itself is very gorgeous! you have a big open area for drinks and the restaurant on the side so that you eat away from the noise. I’ll definitely go back as they are few other dishes that seem interesting! ok it might be a bit pricey compare to other similar places but the quality of food is very good!

So having my traditional irish meat-and-two-veg parents over for the weekend, I was really struggling to come up with somewhere for dinner! Someone in work suggested Browns, so thought I would check it out, as Unilocal doesn’t currently have many reviews I checked out trip advisor and found it scored an average 3.5… so I was a but apprehensive as really wanted to treat my parents to a nice meal! Well I didn’t need to worry! The building is gorgeous inside! The service was great and there was a great choice of delicious food, wines and cocktails on the menu! Everybody was more than satisfied with their meals! It was only afterwards that I found out that Browns is actually a chain, but it certainly did not seem like one to me! They also had a cote de boeuf on the menu, which I have been trying to hunt down in the manchester restaurant scene for a while(most places tend to offer chauteaubriand)! Whilst I didn’t opt for it on the night I’m keen to go back and try it! This is a great place for a meal or just for drinks! Good for larger groups and if you don’t want to be in the main hussel and bussel of the bar then ask to be sat back in the restaurant section or in the little alcove behind the bar like we did!

Everything, from service to location to food, was spectacular! The cocktails were out of this world! The location is absolutely spectacular!

There are lots of choices of cocktail but the food is not very good and lack of variety. Of course it is a pub but I still suggest dishes need to improve.

Pour boire un coup ou manger, c’est parfait. Fish and chips extra, lieux gigantesque et canon, jusqu’aux toilettes qui sont magnifiques! Hihihi Pensez à réserver le week-end!

Great place to meet up at the start of the night… something for everyone. The great architecture is a real talking point. The breakfast here is fantastic and really good place to meet up for a cocktail and a chat! The location is on the entrance into the northern quarter so a lovely spot to meet and start your night. Its very bustling so maybe not a romantic meal spot — although I have only had one evening meal here several years ago and general just choose to have drinks.

Fabulous building and very grand surroundings. They have booths which are perfect for conversation and catching up. There is also a restaurant section to the right hand side of the bar exclusively for diners although I’ve never eaten here. They do cocktail offers Sunday through to Thursday — £5 for cocktails off their classic menu. It was a Friday when I visited so no offers for me this time. Had an elderflower and cucumber based gin cocktail which was very refreshing and mixed by a nice chap behind the bar(he also asked me if i was OK when he saw me by the doors earlier waiting for my friend when he was changing the boards outside). It was mostly a post work crowd and the atmosphere was pleasant enough seems to be a place people go for a quick drink enroute somewhere else rather than a venue to spend the whole evening in.

Now this is a grand building. Despite Browns being a chain, this building is worth popping in to see — the high ceilings and dark wood make it quite romantic and feels ballroom-esque. I went on a Friday night and it was understandably busy, predominantly with people winding down after a busy week at work, but also those just starting out their night. Stood by the bar, which is good and bad in equal measures; you get knocked in to almost constantly, but drinks are only a step away. Pricing is pricey. £6.10 for a large glass of basic wine? Obviously, this is the city centre, so it’s not awful, but it’s not amazing. Service was super slow to begin with, no manners whatsoever from fellow drinkers and bar staff paying little attention to who should be served next. Another bar to add to the list for any city centre crawl, but nothing to write home about.
