Not the cosiest place, despite some comfortable looking booths and sofas, so I would probably go for City Arms, Briton’s Protection or one of the chophouses if on a beer themed outing. Didn’t spend much time looking at the wine list — but there is one! I had some kind of fancy gin & tonic that was pretty average to my limited palate. There’s background music but it’s not too loud and features some gentle indie bands that my increasingly out of date ear recognised(Grizzly Bear, Kings of Convenience). Bf thought they could do with more cask and less keg, looked like they had opened it before it was ‘finished’(!) and didn’t feel like the staff seemed like they would be knowledgeable or enthusiastic about the beers or feel any strong commitment to them, unlike say Brewdog or Marble(we did have a particularly dead eyed guy serving us though, maybe it had been a long weekend). So a 3 stars from him but I’d happily recommend it to a beer drinker, although wouldn’t rush back myself.

We stopped by on a quiet Monday night and this place was great — it has a great selection of craft beer and has a really cool vibe to it. It’s trendy and fun with hops hanging decorationally from above the bar and everything on their seventeen(yes 17!) taps being clearly labelled. We had a good lambic and an espresso stout which were each good. It’s cool to see their amazing selection in the walk-in fridge and cooling room for the kegs you can see from behind the window. I bet this place is packed but fun on the weekends and after work, but we enjoyed the quiet Monday evening vibe.

Café Beermoth is an excellent addition to Manchester. Having frequented Beermoth in the NQ on many occasion I always thought it would be well received if they were to open a bar, and it seems I was right. Situated down the back of Market Street, near the Post Office, this is a strange location for such a craft ale establishment but it works very well. A central location close to many businesses and the shopping district, just a little bit out of the way for the usual NQ hipster. On the night I visited I was astounded by the excellent array of beers on tap — Neil C. was over the moon. It is also very, very hipster. Beanie hats and beards galore, although that didn’t put me off. It’s a great bar with an excellent atmosphere. Fab.

Its difficult to rate Café Beermoth anything other than 5 stars. Just a few paces away from the frenzied activity of Market Street is this haven of beer. There are menus listing literally hundreds of bottled beers and a few wines. However, their speciality has got to be the draught ales of which there are at least 20 or so on offer. The friendly bar staff are happy to discuss options, and make recommendations and advise if like me, you’re a little bewildered with too much choice. Beer is available in One third, Two thirds or full pint glasses. Having been here twice in the last week, the ambience can feel a little different depending on how busy it is. On a quiet Monday evening, it has quite a chilled feel, whereas on a busy Saturday evening it can be quite noisy. Comfortable seating is slightly limited. The cosy booths by the front windows are definitely the most popular seats and always seem to be the first to be taken. On my second visit, I sat in the small upstairs area, on an old church pew. Food options don’t look too extensive, but the focus here is definitely on the beer!

So. Much. Beer. But I had a coffee which was just as tasty. This new joint is in an area of Manchester that had been lacking a decent drinking haunt. There is a huge range of craft beers and ales on offer — definitely something for everything. I didn’t have time to check out the rest of their drinks menu but this is definitely a place to come back to.

Café Beermoth have a great thing going. The only decent bar in this geographical area, they already appear to have a loyal following made up of devout beer lovers, local workers and shoppers wanting to escape the horror of Market Street at the weekend. It’s bloody huge inside, with a staircase at one end leading to some additional seating upstairs. There’s a good combination of dark and light décor, with mostly light wood furniture but dark walls, meaning it should slip perfectly between seasons, with no one balking at the thought of coming here in the sunnier months(which are hard to predict in our fair city!) We came during the first week on a Sunday and it was well attended — most of the seating was taken but we experienced no wait at the bar. The staff were sympathetic to my beer knowledge, or lack thereof, and allowed me a few samples. My half ended up costing more than the rest of the groups pints, but it was worth it in my opinion! Alongside beer they serve spirits, wine and soft drinks, plus hot drinks in the morning. The menu is vast so don’t be pressured into ordering something straight away, just take a seat and decide. Café Beermoth isn’t the kind of place to feel rushed, I can certainly see myself having a few heavy weekends and lighter work meetings here.

I really wanted to love it here but I’ve still been generous and given it 4 stars because I love the whole idea but I went in at the wrong time! 5.30 on a Friday night, just as all the suits were finishing work. I was waiting patiently at the bar and got pushed out of the way numerous times by groups of business men, asking what lager they have and whether they sell Jaeger Bombs, they weren’t exactly appreciating the beauty of this place! That said, I chose two different delicious Pale Ales, that were reasonably priced for schooners and managed to find somewhere to perch. I will be giving them another chance!

Really enjoyed this newly opened beer haven in Manchester. It’s got that contemporary clean, nearly sparse feeling yet with warm tones of handcrafted wood fittings and soothing low light. I liked the big booths as well that are perfect for a big group to get cosy in. Full disclosure, I’m not actually a major beer person, but they do a mean G&T. Fever Tree tonic, always a bonus, and a good generous measure in a nice glass. Can’t go wrong with that really! Staff were pleasant and overall there was just a really nice overall vibe.

Hello new favourite bar! So good that we went twice in 2 days for a nightcap(well several nightcaps) after staying next door at the awesome Hotel Gotham! The way I’d describe this is a modern take on a beer hall with an upmarket beer festival vibe — it’s great that you can see all the barrels behind the bar — nicely vaulted inside glass giving it a great unique style. On top of this there’s a slight nod to Berlin minimalism whilst also having room for loads of standing punters and comfy booths if you want to take a load off. The beer on draft selection is amazing(at least 20) with loads of bottles too — Odell 5 barrel pale was lovely as were the stouts and porter. Raspberry sour was definitely an acquired taste but nice to try! Even the non beer drinkers in our group loved it — quaffing g+t’s like they were going out of fashion. This place has the right vibe to appeal to everyone — very well done! Can’t wait to go back!

This is a brand new beer bar in Manchester and I’ve got to say, it is pretty damn nice. I’ve actually been here twice on my recent trip and its impressive. As I said, it’s new so it’s got a very new and shiny look to it. They layout is open and relaxed and if you can grab a booth, that’s definitely the prime position in the bar. There’s an epic selection of beers, obviously, but they also do other drinks like spirits and cider(although that wasn’t available both nights we were there) so on the first night I had an IPA and then a G&T the second night. I can’t fault this place and will definitely be back.

A new opening that slipped under the radar(intentionally as they said they will only start promoting once they’ve ironed out the kinks) that brings a fantastic beer range to the city Centre. Café Beermoth is the new bar from the guys at the well loved Beermoth shop on Tib Street and I anticipate it’ll be loved even more that it’s big brother! A brilliant space and décor and a brilliant range of beers that, according to the friendly bar staff, changes on pretty much a daily basis. Top drawer stuff and I can’t wait to pop back in!

This may come as a surprise to some, but I was no fan of the Tib St incarnation of Beermoth. There prices were very high and I always felt an uncomfortable, snobby atmosphere in there — maybe just me(not on the prices front — they are high compared to Others in manchester). So a bar opened by near King Street! .time to sell the family silver eh? Well, no. Beer on draught is always cheaper than bottles but the prices in Café Beermoth are good generally, one half of a 7% stout was 2.20 — nice. They also break the mould slightly with their selection of beer; it’s not the predictable MCR craft board I’m used to but rather a nice mix or UK/non-UK and very local beers on tap — as well as some fine coffee and pastries in the morn! They didn’t just stick a load of pales on that will go down by the gallon, they stocked interesting and challenging beer on their opening weekend — sticking to their guns. Well, what can I say? It’s got good beer, comfy stalls, and a lovely bar — go drink!

New on the Manchester bar scene. Not even a week old. ‘Hidden’ next to the Spring Gardens Post Office. I feel I have to point out as my mate from Leeds got lost the address says Spring Gardens but the bars entrance is actually found on Brown St. A great large cavern of a room, softened in feel by wooden frame walls between the booths which line the Brown St side windows. After a walk through the torrential downpours this last Saturday it was very pleasurable to sit in a booth and watch the maddening crowd of Christmas shoppers walk past the gigantic street facing windows in various states of dampness, whilst sitting happily drinking some very good beer. There are some traditional elements to the bar done out in a modern twist, contemporary brass fittings and splash back on the taps and hanging metal frames covered in hops. The beer selection was great, though I did notice a slight lack of local beers considering we have 40+ breweries in proximity to Manchester and they have 17 taps, 10 keg and 7 cask lines. Fantastic mix though, from fresh new world pales, some tarts sours, through to belgians, black IPA, porter and stout. A very good beer exploration bar which is clearly what the guys from Beermoth(outstanding bottle shop in NQ) were hoping for. Perhaps my favourite part of the bar, being a bit of a beer geek is the windows behind which show off the large cellar done out entirely in white tile. There is an extensive bottle list, some may balk at a few of the prices though. They also serve teas and coffees with NQ attention to detail. I didn’t notice any bar snacks on the menu or behind the bar, hopefully these will appear because it’s always nice to have some snacks about even if only in the nuts and crisps category. But with the addition of coffee/tea hopefully this might grow to pastries, sandwiches and charcuterie which would certainly be in line with the European beer café vibe they are going for.

This hotly anticipated ‘beer café’, from the owners of Beermoth in the NQ, discreetly opened its doors to the public at the weekend — a much-needed, decent drinking spot in this part of town. The space is cavernous, but still feels warm thanks to the darker colours and wood throughout. The designers have certainly impressed with a slick, yet practical interior. To me it’s half-way between the NQ and Spinningfields in design(in a very good way). A gorgeous set of booths, separated again by stained carpentry, stretches across the front, with large windows where you can look out at passers-by. There’s lots of alternative seating, but try and bag a booth if you can. The bar itself is large, and behind it is another large expanse of glazing where you can see through to the ‘beer cellar’ which is a great feature of the place. Fellow beer geeks will go nuts here. The table-top menus list copious bottled beers(mostly Belgian and American) with some priced at up to £40, so they’re also catering for seekers of high quality and rarity. Their seven hand pumps and ten keg beer lines will be rotated frequently, with the choices on cards above the bar. They’ll be open from 8am for hot drinks which will also be available for take away, before serving alcohol from noon. A beer destination in its own right; they’re different and going to do very well here. Tip: Though their address is Spring Gardens, the entrance is on Brown Street.
