DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Manchester – Piccadilly

Good location, that’s about it really!
Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice hotel but extremely overpriced at 150 pounds a night! That’s € 200…a night!
Staff are helpful but overly polite, be yourselves guys, ditch the Burger King approach and be yourselves. Nobody is that sickly sweet it’s just false.
Now I stayed on a bank holiday weekend and was informed at reception that the bar would be open until 1am, great said I, we’ll hang around the hotel save us heading into town! At 12:15 staff call last drinks as Bar Manager decided to close at 12:30…on a bank holiday with a full bar! No explanation, nobody died he just decided.
All in all no where near worth the money it’s ok but at those prices it should be brilliant

This is a great location off Piccadilly train station which is a short journey from Manchester Airport. The reception entrance is very nice and the staff are very friendly. I just got my silver status for Hilton Honors and surprisingly it only took 5 stays. On arrival I got an upgrade. They greeted me with a warm cookie, gave me a slightly better executive room and this included a free non alcoholic mini bar which had 2 oj’s, 2 bottles of water, 6 sodas and two bags of crisps and a voucher for a complimentary drink at the bar! All that for a total of £67 bang in city centre of Manchester. My friend who also travels a lot for business never signs up for these things and really I cannot understand why! The room was clean and had all relevant amenities that you would expect. I went out with friends and when I came back at 12 the bar was closed. They close early if no one is there so I didn’t get a chance to use my free drink however the night porter said not to worry about it and brought me 2 wine miniatures! Great service, great location. I will be coming back here again.

Nice hotel right by Picadilly Station. Walking distance to tons of restaurants and shopping.
Large lobby and reception area. There’s a bar, Blue Bar, as well as a café and restaurant.
Rooms were nice. Modern décor and clean.

I have only dined in the restaurant at the Double Tree so I can’t really comment on the hotel’s accommodation. However I can highly recommend having a meal here. The restaurant is nice and stylish and feels smart enough for a special occasion. It’s particularly nice in the Summer as there are large windows and a terrace to sit out on for a pre meal drink or two.
I really enjoyed the Double Tree’s afternoon tea which consisted of a good selection of cakes, fresh scones and gourmet sandwiches. It’s all served on stands and looks the part.

MORNING! And a pleasant morning it is — having spent two comfortable nights in one of the best beds I’ve ever slept in (not too soft, not to firm, pure perfection) I can safely say I’m refreshed and leaving Manchester with a smile on my face and a spring in my step!
My experience at the Double Tree Hilton has been sensationally smooth from start to finish with the staff being more than helpful — especially when I tottered downstairs at 12am in my pjs to get some toothpaste, not even a wide eyed flicker, and between you and me my pjs deserve a flicker!
One thing I will say is that for me the pillows were a tad too soft and I felt like my head was constantly bouncing around in a cloud but I guess that’s just me…

Clean, modern and perfectly located right by Manchester Piccadilly station, for me this is a pretty ideal place to stay in Manchester city centre.
Each room here is finished to a high standard using a neutral colour scheme and modern furniture to get that hight end and expensive feel. The place has not changed much since it was the City Inn years ago and it still feels current! The staff we met here were all helpful and friendly offering to get us taxis in reception if we needed them and even putting our bags in our rooms so they were ready for when we checked in. That was a nice touch.
I had a very enjoyable stay here, the beds are super comfortable and I left the each day refreshed and ready for the day ahead. Its location makes it perfect if you are planning any visits to the norther quarter or main shopping areas of the city, it is all literally on this hotels doorstep!

I’ve stayed at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Manchester — Piccadilly on several occasions now, including when it used to be a City Inn and then a Mint Hotel.
It’s excellent location to Piccadilly Railway Station is brilliant and it is quite literally a two minute walk from the entrance. Central Manchester is within easy walking distance, or you have the choice of three free bus services, or the metro system which takes you all around the city and out to various parts of the Greater Manchester area.
Upon check-​in, you are offered a cookie, but please beware that if you are a nut allergy sufferer do NOT eat it, as it contains walnuts! You will be offered something else though.
Service is good and the hotel is spotless is all areas. Rooms are compact and bijou, but more than serve their purpose, and have excellent soundproofing, as well as a great heating/​cooling system.
Beds are very comfortable, with a firm base (just the way I like them), free working wifi is a huge bonus, and a great working bathroom with power shower (none of the rooms have a bath) really is a plus point. An Apple MAC TV/​computer is in every room, and serves its purpose, if it’s a little dated now and certainly quite slow at times.
There are three working lifts, although you can wait an age for any to turn up.
The City Café serves a good buffet breakfast, and the in the evening there’s a reasonable menu with a selection of meals (a bit on the pricey side I believe). You can also arrange for afternoon tea to be had as well, serving sandwiches, cakes and scones, with cream and jam.
The Urban Bar is a great place to have a drink in the evening.
All in all, this hotel ticks all the boxes and with its location in central Manchester, you could not ask for better.
I’d recommend the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Manchester Piccadilly to anyone wanting to stay in Manchester, and needing a central location, or wanting to be close to the Piccadilly Railway Station.

Having never been to Manchester, England before I researched like crazy. Sadly what I needed & wanted to know the most was not easily found, assuming it could be found at all.
Doubletree is located outside & across the street from Manchester Piccadilly station’s main doors. It takes less than 1 minute to walk there, and that is no exaggeration. It is the closest hotel to Piccadilly. The main doors are a few feet away from the intersection.
It is a small but quite lovely hotel. Double revolving doors lead you into the H U G E lobby. URBAN is just to your right as you enter. Claudio was awesome during check-​in. Super easy peasy. I had tons of questions for him, especially since tomorrow is Xmas Eve. He showed me a map of a shopping center 10 min away & provided their hours.
When I reserved my room I requested a room near the lift, but not directly next to it. My request was accommodated. I asked for a late check out beyond 12pm. Unlike Vegas, its an extra £10/​hr but I can store my luggage until my train leaves at 3:30pm.
My room is small but surprisingly large. Kinda like the TARDIS. Lol…
The TV is an Apple Mac. Free wi-​fi THAT WORKS! The bathroom. ONG the bathroom! Adjustable hand held shower head. Hot water GETS HOT & STEAMY. and THERE IS WATER PRESSURE! After a long international flight, taking a hot shower as been the highlight of my trip thus far.
Frig is provided. No coffee pot but instead you have an electric kettle with a tea assortment. Café Nero is a short walk for coffee & there is coffee in the lobby. The bed is harder than I prefer but the linens are nice & clean.
I really dug the shower!!!
Everyone I have spoken with at Doubletree has been beyond helpful & super nice. I will definitely be back.

Nice hotel with decent rooms. Clean, bright and a fairly good gym room. I’ve stayed at abode earlier, but I’ll be staying here the next time…

I’ve stayed at the Doubletree before and rather enjoyed it. Breakfast is definitely better than the Manchester Hilton and the staff’ve seemed nicer so far. Only gripes’ ve been the construction work going on across one road, one lift button not working and wifi being out (they brought up a cable). Hilton has a Pool though, so giving it a second chance tomorrow

Was in Manchester briefly to see Nine Inch Nails and choose this Doubletree for its close proximity to Piccadilly Station and the Phones4U Arena. The location allows for easy access to public transit and you are a short walk away from the gayborhood.
We had a room with two twins with the window overlooking the train station. Typical Euro hotel room size and amenities (small desk, wardrobe instead of a closet, mini fridge, and a Mac instead of a TV). This was all fine and acceptable.
As far as the hotel experience, we went to both hotel bars and ate at the main restaurant for the complimentary breakfast as well as afternoon tea. They had a good happy hour and the food was pretty good (lots of ladies having afternoon tea when we arrived).
This hotel is a great value for what you pay — I used Hilton Honors points instead of paying the room rate, but the room rate was very reasonable as well.

I had an early afternoon meeting in this contemporary Piccadilly retreat. I found the staff very pleasant and friendly.
I sat in the lounge with a cappuccino and made good use of great location and free WiFi.
My cappuccino was accompanied with a delicious chocolate chip cookie (apparently comes with all hot drinks and the ritual welcome treat, presented in a little brown packet, for the hotel that are baked freshly on a daily basis and kept warm in the lobby. Nice little touch I thought.
May have to book a room one night and see what other comforts can be unfolded…

This place absolutely stinks of corporate fatcats. It seems to be aimed solely at business workers, hence the reason it’s so stark and «modern» and not very welcome feeling, just «sleek» as it were. The reception staff were also hilarious stereotypes, and all very unfriendly. They seem to forget they’re the first contact of a hotel visit, and not in fact working in a fashion house or art gallery or some high end shop.
The particular man we had was a hilarious gay stereotype. Never smiled once despite smiles to him, jokes, comments etc. Wearing half an inch thick orange face paint… sorry… fake tan… to the degree that you could see the texture within it! Guyliner too! He wasn’t friendly, nor welcoming, and made a special emphasis of «breakfast is NOT included» with the stay we were having, which was fine really, but funny how he said it! He did say we were welcome to purchase breakfast in the restaurant between 7am and 10am.
I asked how much breakfast was. He said it was £11 for continental, and £16 for Full English! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! People pay that?! I could walk 3 minutes from the hotel door and go to about 5 different cafes where I could get a fully cooked breakfast with multiple helpings for about 4 quid. Honestly, who pays 16 quid for breakfast aside corporate types who have no idea how much things genuinely cost?
This is on top of the rate we were paying of £99 per night… with no breakfast! lol. The second hilarious part? The rooms didn’t have any tea or coffee making facilities either for that price! Why? Honestly, although the room was well appointed and had a VERY comfortable bed, if I’d gone to a B&B in Blackpool and spent £50 per night, and didn’t get breakfast or a tea/​coffee tray in the room, I’d feel quite hard done by, so the idea of a high end hotel doing this just makes me laugh in a bitter and cynical way… which I imagine to sound French for some reason, not sure why, «aw-​he-​haw-​he-​haw!»
But yes, the room was well appointed and comfortable with a very comfy bed. The bathroom was bright, roomy, and well appointed too.
The rooms have floor length windows which might be nice if our room wasn’t facing a big blue bulkhead meaning the room was dark without much of a view. It was also on a level with the gravel-​coated roof, meaning it felt like a door leading out onto some kind of patio, and like anyone could come in. The windows had both thick curtains and net/​lace curtains too, so you could have it however you like. It also had an openable window (with a restriction of how far you can open it obviously), but the room had a very effective in-​room air conditioning which you could control yourself with 5 types of warmth/​coolness, and fan speed.
The most interesting point was that the rooms do not have televisions, but instead have an iMac computer which you can use as a TV and radio, complete with remote control, but you can also sit in front of it and use the supplied keyboard and mouse to use it as a computer, with full access to the internet, which was a very pleasant aspect!
Another simple thing but a nice idea is a chain on the door instead of just a lock. Adds an extra feeling of safety, and stops any hotel workers, maids etc, just barging in.
So generally, the rooms are nice but could do with a few more home comforts, especially given the price of the rooms, breakfast, restaurant, bar, café etc… it’s all a bit pricy. Personally I’d say if you want to stay here, you’d be better off eating and drinking in the many better value places within 5 minutes walk, from Subway to Starbucks to Sainsbury’s and Greggs! That, and the staff need to work on their customer service skills… it’s not all about professionalism but sometimes about cordiality and friendliness too! It’s all good and well for Doubletree to give guests a «free warm cookie» (chocolate and hazelnut) upon checkin, but it’s a hollow gesture if it feels a requirement rather than a friendly gesture.
I wouldn’t stay here if it was my own money.

Rebranded as The Mint Hotel, this property represents GREAT value for money. It goes without saying that you can’t stay in a bad location in Manchester since the city centre is compact and easily walkable.
That being said, the hotel is directly across the street from Manchester Piccadilly rail station so after a two hour train ride from London, I was in my room settling in a mere fifteen minutes after my train arrived.
From the location, you really can walk anywhere within twenty minutes, with plenty of bars and good restaurants and plenty of shopping within walking distance. Manchester also has a free shuttle that loops around and through the city centre and there is lightrail service as well.
The hotel itself is a good solid three-​star hotel. Check-​in is efficient and friendly and the staff are wonderful. Rooms are comfortable and minimalist. Because I was eager to shower and go bar hopping, it was not until the following day that I noticed the lack of television. However I quickly discovered that television stations were viewable via the in-​room Mac which also served as a radio and allowed for web browsing. a VERY nice touch. Free Wi-​Fi is also available which is more added value.
One setback was a malfunction in-​room safe. The hotel offered to move me to another room but I was happy to use the front desk safe. Only a minor inconvenience to which the staff presented a satisfactory solution.
The Mint was a perfect choice for me and for anyone who wants a reasonable rate for a comfortable place to sleep in a good location, with a few added values to make their stay a great one.

The hotel is called Mint Hotel. I have only previously been in the hotel once when meeting someone but it still looks the same with the iMac being used as a TV.
Went to the restaurant for a Sunday lunch on my birthday.
Starter was a selection of the usual hams, cheeses, breads etc which was all very tasty.
For the main, it was a choice between beef, pork (and I think lamb???) I went for the pork which was delicious. Nice and juicy. Gravy was very sweet — maybe a bit too sweet. Cracking looked good but unfortunately was just to hard so could break it and eat/​chew it. There was a risk of breaking teeth!

Wow– I have to say the brand transition to Mint Hotels has not done the City Inn well. On the surface all looks well with the world; there isn’t much change other than the name, but dig a little deeper, there are some signs of cracks.
First, it’s a little, well, grungier– at least in the public areas. The bathrooms (previously one of my favorite parts) are kind of gross. All of the soap dispensers are broken. What’s up with that? The seats in the lobby and in the bar are stained and fraying and everything is starting to look a little tired. And the worst offence? The service in the bar– appallingly SLOW. while there’s plenty of staff, they are less attentive than days of old and forget about ordering food. It took an hour to get our seemingly simple order of a hamburger and salad. And it was nearly empty in both bar and restaurant! While this used to be a regular haunt of mine as it is so convenient to Piccadilly, I’ll be looking for a new hangout after work…

City inn was exactly that — a perfectly suitable business hotel right next to Manchester Piccadilly train station. There were beds and tea kettles, free wifi and iMac TVs, towels and pillows, elevators and lobby lounges.
Feel like this review did enough to keep you happy, but nothing that will make it memorable? That’s exactly how I felt about my stay at City Inn.

The other reviews are right on, the location of the city inn is fantastic, right in the heart of the centre of town and adjacent to the Piccadilly train station (for less than 6 pounds you can be at the airport in 25 minutes).
The hotel room was clean and fashionable. I got upgraded to a club room, which was spacious and had a cool elevated glass enclosed sitting area. I felt like I overlooked the whole city and I was only a few floors up! The room also included an i-​mac which was a first for me! The room was quiet and bed was great.
The only real down-​side to the room was the lack of consistent hot water. It would last only a few moments before going tepid and then just cold. Otherwise everything was spot-​on.
I also was annoyed when I booked my non-​refundable room (advance purchase rate) on the hotel’s website because city inn claims to have a «best rate guarantee.» A few days later I found the price of the same room dropped by 20 pounds! I emailed and asked them to match the new lower price. Instead the hotel claimed that the best rate only applies to the best rate that day. That’s exceptionally lame and not a standard industry practice. If it wasn’t for the upgrade, this would have been 2 stars as a result!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on a business trip. It was a very mixed experience.
The room itself was great. It was very clean, there was plenty of storage, the bed was comfortable, and I loved the bathroom. Having an iMac in the room was a great touch, but not being able to channel surf (you had to go to a menu to change the channel) was a bit of a drag. Overall, the room was great, good use of space, and very comfortable.
Our biggest issue was with the service. While everyone from the front desk staff, to housekeeping, and the restaurant servers were very nice and attentive, we had some major issues. First, when our room was made up after our first night, we were left with only one bath towel. We called down and some were sent up right away, but when two people are checked into a room, at least two towels should be left.
We tried to grab a quick lunch in the lounge off the lobby on our first day. We had a meeting to get to, but had an hour. When I ordered the soup and sandwich combo I was told that one of the two soups they had on the menu wasn’t available. Bummer, but ok, I took the second option. My husband ordered a cold sandwich. For two simple menu items, we waited 35 minutes and then had to eat as fast as we could to get to our meeting on time. Our server apologized but wasn’t able to offer an explanation. The food was good though.
Also, I worked at a four diamond rated hotel, so I know a lot about hotel service. When I left my key in our room I went to the desk to get another one. I gave my name, but couldn’t remember the correct room number. I was given a duplicate key anyway, and was never asked for id to verify my identity. Not very comforting in terms of security.
Overall, I would stay here again if I were booked by our company, but if I were making the choice, I might shop around a little.

We booked here as part of a websites «Secret Hotels» promotion, where they just give you a description of a place and a reduced price and they don’t tell you the name until you’ve booked and paid… a bit of a gamble really.
We actually thought this hotel was a completely different one and when we got the email saying «City Inn» we were a bit taken aback! But we googled it and it looked nice so off we went!
It is nice, very nice. Everything is very new and modern, the bedrooms are very well set out and comfortable, all complete with a flatscreen TV which doubles as a PC too so that was quite cool.
The bar is particularly nice, we spent a very nice evening in here even though I normally don’t like to stay in the hotel bar as I kinda like to get out and about! But it was so nice in here we couldn’t be bothered leaving! Very good service.
It is very centrally located right opposite Manchester Piccadilly station and therefore right in the middle of the city with good transport links to everywhere else.
Good price as well as we booked with this promotion but it would be much more expensive if we’d have booked on another website!
