Visited ‘The Left Bank Café’ in New Bailey Street, Manchester today whilst visiting my son’s apartment which is just across the street. We arrived at 11.30am and the café was empty. We were a little worried… never go into an empty café! There must be a reason for the lack of customers. Our doubts were immediately dispelled by a warm & friendly welcome. We discussed the menu at the bar and decided to have an ‘Alll Day Breakfast’(£5.00) and my wife chose the steak sandwich with chips and salad(£5.95) We sat near the canal side window and watched as the rain battered down into the canal. After a short wait we were served our drinks, followed by our meals. When I looked at my breakfast I thought that I would never eat all of that. 2 slices of toast, 2 sausages, 2 slices of bacon, fried egg, large field mushroom and a lovely fresh fried tomato. This was both lovely to look at and better to eat. My wife’s steak sandwich was equally impressive and good value for money. The whole experience was a great pleasure, a relaxed atmosphere and an interesting view. Without us knowing the café had filled whilst we ate and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. Would recommend to any who like good, wholesome food, beautifully presented with the minimum of fuss. Just like home cooking at a very reasonable price. Why waste your money and time going in for fine, restaurant dining when there are places like The Left Bank Café. The Peoples History museum is housed in the same building and is well worth the visit.

Brand new café/bar with outside terrace run by Couture who also run the café in The Manchester Museum — this is part of the new Manchester People’s History Museum. This place stays open much longer than the museum, great for a cake and a cup of tea on a Sunday evening. Free Wifi too. Food locally sourced. Superb vege sausage sandwich and a coffee for £2.95 in the mornings. Coffee very good, will write longer review when we have eaten here. Will be great sat outside in summer. Licensed with Dunham Massey ales and wine list too. Good children’s menu. Worth a visit and a great addition to this part of town. Popular with Slot-Badgers. Recommended.
