We came here on a Monday night for a curry after craving one all day. Basically everyone in the restaurant was white(customers, not staff) which was interesting given that it’s a really ethnically diverse neighborhood. Makes me think people are coming from far away rather than in the neighborhood! We ordered way too much food — a mango lassi, 2 popadoms, garlic naan, cashew nut pilau rice, vegetable shimla appetizer, balti chicken and chana, and lamb nawab khana. Phew! We were stuffed! While all the food was very tasty, service was painfully slow. I was so hungry, if we hadn’t ordered the popadoms I would’ve had to gnaw my arm off. And it wasn’t even that busy! That was a real disappointment. Kamal is BYOB, though we didn’t B any B. The mango lassi was yummy and creamy — a «small» size is plenty big enough! Can’t imagine how big a large is! The Vegetable Shimla is a charred green pepper stuffed with curried vegetables — it’s tasty, messy to eat, but I’d say not worth getting as the mains will fill you up plenty. For vegetarians though, I’d say it’s worth a try. Very nice, mild flavor in the sauce. The mains were very good — the lamb was incredibly tender. We really liked the cashew rice as well, fun texture. The naan was enormous! Too much for two people! Both mains were under £7, so very affordable all in all. Still, with the slowest service imaginable, we weren’t very keen to return. It’s just too hard to wait that long when you’re hungry!

Wow! Super! A really great restaurant with friendly and efficient staff and marvelously tasty Balti and other menus! Bring your own drinks is really good and make the whole meal with a group of family or friends a real memorable event! We were visiting from Dusseldorf, Germany and were most impressed with everything there is not such a good Indian/Pakistan restaurant anywhere like this in Düsseldorf! We even met people visiting from Salt Lake City in Utah USA who were absolutely delighted. Thank you for some great evenings with our family David and Caroline it was smashing and we will be back next year!

Wonderful food, bring-your-own for beer etc and a shop next door if you want to get drink when you arrive. Take the number 39 or 40 from Old Eldon Square and ask for the top of Stanhope Street. I have been many times in the last 20 years, ever since it was formica tables, shiny floor tiles and plastic plants in the windows. The staff are lovely, the décor comfortable and light and now plenty of space. I love it! And not just because it’s round the corner from me :-) Now called Kamal 2013
