I’d been waiting to go and try this place out for quite a few years. I’d heard a lot about it before I went there. So it may have been difficult for it to live up to the hype. We went for a Christmas meal and it was seemed basically like a big motel restaurant. The food was ok and not«boil in the bag» Christmas fare you often get in restaurants nowadays but it was a bit uninspired. The starters and desserts all seemed universally ok. I think I had chicken liver pâté which was gorgeous and a big fancy fluffy ice cream dessert which was ok if a bit basic. The mains I thought, although great portion size was fairly traditional food. Boiled potato’s and vegetables cooked till they were pretty soft and a bit tasteless to be honest. The décor was good and the place warm and welcoming. But it would be difficult to get there by public transport so quite a few of our party kindly drove as it would have been expensive to get taxi’s back and forth. It may be I came to this place after it’s heydey, or it may have been unfair to go at Christmas when any restaurant struggles for quality food.
