I tried this restaurant simply in passing knowing nothing about it. It was a nice sunny day and took a seat outside. The décor inside was cool and smart. A really nice feel about the place. I was hooked immediately on the sign outside stating lobster was available. We ordered half lobster and a bowl of mussels. Both were fantastic. Can’t go far wrong with either. However the whole dish was great. Even the salad was delicious and I finished off every last piece on the plate. Really nice and would recommend.

So, big thumbs up to Number 12, one of two establishments we found in North Berwick to offer a vegetarian option on their menu. Bgger thumbs up as it was more than one option of a vegetarian sausage(sorry, Butterfly Café). We went with the one that gave me a couple of options for breakfast, in a town so clearly needing a new eating place in town that doesn’t use bacon at the forefront of breakfast options. By then, we were half starved as it was really more like the lunch side of brunch than breakfast, having worked up an appetite battling strong winds at the East Fortune Sunday Market and I felt the need for more than a croissant. Luckily, No 12 gave a somewhat larger cariety of menu choices, from smoked haddock to a full breakfast. The boy and I plumped for meat and meat free full breakfasts, served with a side of Illy coffee. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t overwhelmed by the breakfast, it was a little dry and dull and the vegetarian haggis soggier than I would have liked. But, kudos for the menu options, and the locally sourced produce(Knowes Farm chickens, thank you for your eggs, they made for some very yellow scrambled eggs!). Would I pick No 12 again? If I was in North Berwick in need of breakfast, yes. If there was a wider choice? Hmmm… let me get back to you on that one, I am not sure!
