As Caz said you think you’ve stumbled into the wrong place with all the designer crockery and so. Unfortunately on this visit they could only offer us teas or filter coffee as the espresso machine was out of order and they were waiting on a new one. But I really wanted to get a steampunk flat white as i know the beans are amazing! We didn’t leave emptied handed though as Mum bought some delish gourmet elderflower and gin marshmallows to takeaway with us. Ohhh they were delicious! Hopefully when we come back the espresso machine will be installed and worked so we can get a full experience from bean to cup. The people behind the bar were very friendly to note!

This place should really be in an episode of Portlandia. It’s almost a parody of itself, with 60s furniture going for a considerable sum of cash, illustration magazines scattered about(£12 each) and a few big communal tables for everyone to sit around as they sip their hot beverages. Saying that, the vibe is relaxed and I was quite happy to sit on the lone couch with my cuppa and a big slab of white chocolate brownie. No complaints at all for the quality of tea and cakiness, service or general experience. It was grand. I don’t do coffee so can’t comment on the quality…

I’m a massive fan of Steampunk coffee and have been wanting to visit them at home in North Berwick for quite some time… Walking into The Den today I sort of wondered if I’d stumbled into the wrong place… the door opens into an entry way which is filled with funky crockery and retro furniture. you then turn left into a large cavernous room housing a big table with metal chairs & a small couch and coffee table on the side. The space is really geared up to hold workshops rather than as an inviting café. There is a cabinet with Steampunk’s selection of roasted beans, which they sell as whole beans or they can grind them for you too. Coffee as expected was top notch! Next time I’d probably only grab a coffee to take away and walk along the beach. it’s not really a place for sitting in.
