This is my favourite art shop ever. The staff are so helpful and kind. I believe they are all artists too so they know what they are talking about and just love art. I have been going for years! There is even a hidden gem of a gallery upstairs. It is small but it always has fantastic exhibitions going on. So much love for this place, I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

I love this little shop, staff so helpful, range is great plus you always feel as though you have stepped in just at the right moment and you may get to join a little party about to happen! Would have to search to find such a fabulous range of papers else where.

When in Oxford and in search of a quality art supplies selection, the Broad Canvas is pretty much your only places to go, no literally, other than a few stores selling art stuffs here and there, the Broad Canvas is the only full art store in the centre of Oxford.
I’ve always greatly appreciated the customer service and selection here, top notch, and I love finding new and interesting craft items. They have an extensive selection of everything for the brooding painter to the impoverished architecture student (yay student discount) and everyone in between. The only thing they are missing a significant selection of are fabric supplies, however this can be forgiven.
Before checking anywhere else, always try the Broad Canvas.

This is a brillian art supplies shop, with not only all the usual stuff, but lots of ideas that you would never have thought you need, and you probably don’t (but you get them anyway because they are irresistable). The staff are really helpful too.

Broad canvas is a super little shop. As an avid crafter, I love going there to see the latest stamps, inks, and crafting supplies. Despite the small size of the shop, they cram in an awful lot of goodies– it is like an Alladin’s cave, and so you need to allow yourself time to explore it thoroughly!
They stock a wide selection of paints and other artists materials upstairs, and then the small staircase leads downstairs to the craft section.
They sell some lovely toppers and are great inspiration for card-making and scrapbooking. The prices are quite expensive, but then sadly most craft shops are. A lovely shop and well worth a look for avid crafters as well as beginners.

I stumbled across here by chance one day and am glad I did — inside is like a tardis and the shop sells everything you need as either a budding van gogh or a serious artist. The prices are very competitive to other art shops. There is a vast selection of goods for any hobby you may have and they have a wonderful selection of scrapbooking papers.

I only came across this shop a few months ago, even though I have always lived near Oxford!
It is like an Aladdin’s cave for artists and crafters! I love it!
There are 3 floors, and the stairs a bit uneven so if you are a bit unsteady on your feet it’s not the best shop to go in!
But for creative people it is a magical shop! I could spend hours in there looking at all the lovely scrapbooking supplies, gorgoeus colours of fimo, huge selection of glass paints, loads of paper punches. .. the list goes on! It is a great shop, slightly hidden away on broad street but once you find it you just keep going back!

Unfortunately Broad Canvas have narrowed their remit slightly in recent years, rather than broadening it — their position as one of the few stockists of crochet and knitting supplies in Oxford itself perhaps ought to have encouraged them to branch out rather than rein in, but never mind. They are still a good source of cross-stitch, art, and scrapbooking supplies, and for serious artists they are one of the best resources possible. It would be better if they could increase their fibre-arts range, but the shop is cramped in places as it is.

This is excellent — I only wish that I’d found it earlier. This little shop is packed full of craft goodies, including a fantastic range of paints, canvas, brushes and other art materials (pastels, fabric paints, pencils). I love the basement room — full of needlecraft floss, aida and bits and pieces like patterns and needles, as well as lots of glitter paint, sequins, fimo and other goodies!
A great place to have a look if you’re after a project, or just messing about with the family.
