This clock is part of quite a substantial building in the main shopping street of the town, and dates from about 1850. It was the work of a Mr John Charles Froyne who was Chief Constructor of Pembroke Dockyard and later Mayor of the Borough in 1897. Apparently, when the building was sold to WH Smith it was in the deeds that the council must have access to the clock twice a year for maintenance! Without a doubt I think this building with its red clock tower is the most interesting to be seen in Pembroke it certainly stands out from all the rest too, being painted red!
