This is a lovely place to visit on a summers day. The lily ponds are man made and were formed after three limestone valleys were capped and filled in with water in the late 18th –early 19th centuries. It is now a protected nature reserve where wildlife thrive. Otters, dragonflies, water birds, and a huge array of fishlife are found here. Fishing is permitted with a permit. You park at the far end(National Trust) and take a pleasant long walk along one side of the ponds, eventually coming out onto a large sandy beach with very few people around, or you can go up on to the cliffs were the coastwalk is and go off that way. On the way back you cross a small bridge across the ponds where you can stand and watch the fish etc. Careful we small kids as there is a handrail only on one side — though it’s not very deep. We spent a good few hours here when our sonn was born — that was a while ago so we’re overdue a visit here. You won’t be disappointed if you like a quiet relaxing stroll and to get away from the crowds though I’ve never been in high season).
