With the large number of beaches within only a few miles of Cardiff and surrounding areas, Sturff provides a number of essential products for surfing and other similar recreational activities. As well as practical goods like ‘board wax’, Sturfff is home to a wide selection of stylish garments for men, women and children. Whilst there are a number of shops in Central Cardiff likely to stock the same thing, Sturff possesses a more local and consumer friendly feel, with less intimidating volumes of stock and sizes. That’s not to say the selection of clothes here is necessarily poorer, instead it is perhaps more true that Sturff selects its stock more carefully, providing a really nice range of products. Whilst it’s fair to say Sturff isn’t exactly brimming full of customers, even at the best of times, the friendly staff and nice selection of goods make this nice, authentic feeling retailer a good place to go.

Sometimes, I think I’m a 16-year-old Florida beach comber who can pull of wearing board shorts to the grocery store. But in reality, I’m pushing thirty and reside in the blustering cold that is Wales, so I have to make amends and realise my board-wearing days are long gone, except when I go on holiday, of course. I needed a new bikini for my trip back to Florida next month, and the half off signs hanging in the display window of Sturff caught my eye, so I stopped in for a look around. After a quick browse, the shop assistant told me every article of clothing in the store was half off(even bikinis!), in order to make room for the new stock coming in. Sturff carries an extensive range of clothing from brands like Animal, O’Neill, and Billabong. I was also pleased to find a whole wall of Reefs sandals, which are one of my favourite brands that I don’t find too often on this side of the pond.

This store seems to be in a little bit of an odd location, off the Penarth beaten track, and probably suffers because of it. If this clothes shop was on the main road, it would most likely be buzzing, but as it is, I’ve not seen all that many people frequent its premises. Sturff is a surf and outdoors clothing retailer, with a shop in Penarth and another in Monmouth. They sell all the familiar brands that you could ask for: Animal, Rip Curl, Weird Fish, Billabong, Quicksilver, Reef, Kangaroo Poo, Saltrock and O’Niell. The prices can be a tad extravagant, but this is the trend with these brands, and is to be expected. Although the range is actually pretty good, this is a very small shop that can tend to feel a little bit claustrophobic and amateur. But is you like this type of ‘lifestyle clothing’ it’s a great place to check out.

Although being quite expensive its a great place to summer shop. Selling all the top brands of beach and surf wear its a good place to get kitted out. A vast range of bags and accessories can also be found within the shop. Large discounts can also be found when the sales come around.

How lucky were the people of Penarth when this shop arrived a couple of years ago? Packed to the rafters with the coolest surf and street wear, this shop stocks clothes, footwear and accessories for adults and children. From Crocs to Animal to Reef, all the best brands are to be found in a compact and bijou outlet. The staff are just as cool and super friendly too and are ready to help if you have a question. Lots of really pretty jewellry in the display cases by the door and a changing room if you want to try things on. They also feature some of the funkiest window displays in town. Highly recommended for all.

This shop seems to be in a funny place in penarth, on stanwel road, headed form the centre towards the station and thus can be overlooked a little. Its a great little shop and sells all the usual surf makes, rip curl, animal etc. It can be a little pricey but all these type shops seems to be. Its the name your paying for. But there does alwasy seem to be a sale rail when i go there, full of board shorts, T’s etc. And a lot of girls stuff like summer tops etc. I always tend to pop in on my way to the station or the park. But as its not all my sort of thing except things like board shorts i dont spend a heck of a lot. All in all a good shop, so if you like that sort of thing, get on down there!
