If you’re tall wear a helmet, this charming traditional Inn beams with Tudor beauty. Yes, beams all over the place, low ones. I’m surprised they didn’t serve Beamish ale. We saw beaming smiles as Sunday lunch was laid down at a nearby table and unlike most places that only serve Roast until 3, they pulled out the stops serving till 4. Great for late lazy lunchers like us. I’d like to sing their praises not only for the resplendent looking roast, but inspired by views of the spire outside, we ordered drinks and skipped out into the beaming sun in the kitchen garden where we were welcomed by butterflies enjoying the blooms too. Such a lovely place to eat on a sunny afternoon. I cannot fault this place, the chef made Yorkshire Puds which rose to the occasion, high enough to rival the towering sight of the famous Salisbury steeple; and steep it was not. The wonderful roast lunch came in a a very decent dozen English Pounds.

The best pub in Salisbury. Log fires, friendly staff, amazing old building, nice clientele, good quality pub food… Need I go on? I love coming here, especially on a freezing cold night as it was last night and the rain has soaked your clothes making the choice of open fires a blessing. If you haven’t been here you should. Anyone who loves a traditional English pub will love this place.

In this day and age, a pub cannot survive on beer alone, especially if there’s another one a couple of hundred yards down the road. So, most pubs offer food and, again, each pub tries to outdo the competition. What remains? Atmosphere? That is certainly a big selling point, but, in Salisbury, there are more pubs with the ‘olde worlde’ ambience than you can shake a stick at. The ‘New Inn’ scores with its secluded beer garden, a quiet retreat that makes you forget the city is only a pace away. And, there’s a great view of the Cathedral; a nice place to meet, and sit and have a leisurely drink with friends on a sunny afternoon. And, what if it isn’t sunny? Well, the atmosphere inside is just as welcoming and, although I can’t speak for the food I didn’t have any the beer(Badger Brewery) is excellent.

Good garden tucked around the back with view of the cathedral.
