Very slow service. No Guinness. Other beers are rather watery. Do not go unless you like to play pool

Bar staff slow but bonus they sell Leffe, barman did not have a clue when i asked for one. I then asked for a Leffe glass and he gave me a pint larger glass. The seating is poor and unfriendly.

There’s not many places around like this pub. The best time to visit is in the summer as they have a huge outdoor terrace that backs onto the River Adur with views of the South Downs. From the front it looks pretty much like a lot of other town pubs except that it has a huge effigy of a swash-​buckling man standing on the front of a boat! You certainly can’t miss it.
The menu changes a lot here as they do buy in a lot of fresh produce but I can definitely recommend one of their char-​grilled steaks. To be honest, when alfreso dining is as good as this, I think the food tastes 100 times better no matter what you order.
They have a pretty comprehensive wine menu with some good deals that vary from week to week. The staff are excellent and even on a busy day, will do their best to make sure you are served as quick and politely as humanly possible.
Ideal for a romantic meal for two in the evening and watch the sun go down over the river.

recently refurbished, this is now far smarter than it used to be. Easily spotted in the high street, it has a ships figure head on the outside. Inside it’s flag stone floors are now covered with leather sofas, and the menu is posh pub grub
