Situated on the top floor of Touchwood shopping centre in Solihull, Spud U Like immediately stands out thanks to the fact that it’s surrounded by chain restaurants such as Nando’s and Pizza Express. The general premise of the eatery is quite a unique one, as it aims to do to for the potato what Subway did for the sub sandwich. As well as the expected jacket potatoes, available with a good range of fillings, their latest invention is what they call ‘crushed potato’(I can’t really explain it much clearer than they have already), which I’d heartily recommend. The best value for money can be found in the form of their meal deal, which is crushed potato served with(ethically line caught) tuna, a drink, and two pieces of garlic bread for just £4.75, which is much better value than you’ll find in the neighbouring chains. The only downside is the slightly worrying posters that line the walls.

I think the meal deal was a reasonable price. The chilli con carne wasn’t as spicy as I like. Clean place. Just the thing you have to eat on is a bit of a put off. …and those stupid bloody plastic knife and forks. Flipping nightmare to try and cut through the skin. What is wrong with metal knives and forks? Are these throw away knives and forks? I don’t know. Anyway the food was OK.

This offers a healthy version to some of the alternatives in this section of Touchwood. They range from 69 for baked beans to 250 for grated cheese fillings. They also do some nice hot drinks which make this meal out a lovely warm filling bite to enjoy

A nice place to grab a nice filling jacket potato — a nice healthy lunch out alternative. They do baked beans from weight watchers as a filling if you are really after something low fat. I tend to stick to the tuna sweetcorn or cottage cheese. All reasonably priced. They also do a kids meal for around £3 with a backed spud and fruit shoot
