This pub has the potential to be a star in the Stevenage pub scene. You could do so much with the place. Its a pity it has no decent beer. Other than that its comfortable but it is caught in a seventies timewarp decoration wise. Would love to buy it and turn it into a proper real ale pub.

Has a reputation for fights and problem drinking. Always seems quiet and full of old blokes(like me) when I go there. Beer is pretty good. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Very traditional pub — a bit grubby and down at heel!

I had visitors this week and they wanted to explore the old town. Around 5pm we got thirsty and popped in here. The place looks very old and we got chatting to locals outside, on the picnic style, benches at the front who told us it was once 3 cottages and the huge house across the road, just visible behind the church, was a farm house. The benches are a nice place to sit in the sun and the customers are very friendly. We were soon chatting away and got bought a drink. One of their dogs adopted me and went to sleep on me.(I am not great with dogs. I am sure they know). Inside 2 bars and a small pretty back courtyard but everyone seems to prefer being out the front watching the world go by. The staff are friendly and polite. Huge inglenook fireplace and wide beams. it is rather pretty. Good range of ales and beers and Bulmers pear cider. Loses a star for being slightly more expensive than other pubs in the area but enjoyable non the less. On the way home an hour and a half later we met RDC coming to see where we were and we ended up going back there. The crowd had changed to older people. Pleasant evening. They do food but can’t comment on it.
