If there’s one thing I can’t stand is a chip shop who uses frozen fish and chips out of a packet. It just tastes like cardboard. YUK! I’ll settle for a saveloy please. Can’t go wrong with a sav — only if it’s done in a microwave. Am I being too fussy? This is a shameless plug for the place I used to work for when I was at school… I have to say it has spoiled me as I I have become some what of a fish and chip shop snob. A family run business for the past 40 odd years has a nice, friendly atmosphere where time is often taken to chat and get to know the customers many of whom are locals. The most famous regular being Len Goodman from Strictly :) Foodwise, this is how a fish and chip shop should be. There’s a wide selection of traditional chip shop food available from your standard cod to rollmops and skate. From burger to calamares and scallops. Vegeburgers to battered king prawns and sweet chilli sauce. All the fish is freshly bought from Billingsgate Market all cut up and de-boned by the boss man. Spuds are brought in weekly, peeled and chipped by staff. Not only do you have all this but you get a wide selection of fresh seafood, cockles, oysters, lobster you name it. AND if there’s something that you want and they don’t have it, they’ll be sure to get it for you for when you next come in. What more can you ask for? Sooo if you’re in the area come in and check it out :)
