Cobs and clingfilm — sometimes isn’t that just the answer? It may be an image you thought consigned to ‘70s sitcoms, only needing a dart sticking out of one of them to complete the look. But there’s no misaligned projectiles here, this venue specialises in darts-playing, attracting visiting pros for marathon, charity and exhibition events. As Han Solo said of the Millennium Falcon: «She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts.» While the exterior won’t particularly grab you, and almost certainly strike you as a venue squarely for locals, sandwiched as it is between rows of houses, you will feel comfortable once inside. It’s old-fashioned yes, but the beer is good and reasonable, the welcome is warm, and there is plenty of room to sit. Perfect for a crossword or checking the form of the gee-gees. And if you want a snack, you know exactly what to do.

This is a very traditional pub just a few minutes away from the centre of Mere Green. Nestled amongst houses, The Pint Pot can feel a bit too local for the uninitiated. Don’t let appearances put you off. Once inside you’ll see that it looks exactly like a pub is meant to look. Order yourself a cold pint of lager and take a rest at one of the many tables and chairs. Feeling peckish? Then take advantage of the cobs sold behind the bar… I told you this was traditional! If you’re into your pub sports then so is the Pint Pot. Darts is popular here and it’s a good venue to through a few arrows. The pub has plenty of parking, but most of the customers visit on foot. If the weather’s nice, there are plenty of tables out front to have a sit down and watch the world go by. If like me you’re not into pub chains, then the Pint Pot is well worth a visit.
