Good value food, friendly service, & a Premier Inn attached. Can’t say fairer than that.

Sadly I’m not sure my love of the TV show ‘Man V Food’ is enough to bring me back here! A few weeks ago I met up with my sister for lunch. We hadn’t been to the White Horse before so we thought we’d give it a try. It was early on a Friday afternoon, the wind was blowing outside and my stomach was rumbling inside. As we walked in I could barely see the lady behind the bar as the lighting in here was so dim. We continued in, took a seat and strained to see a menu. It was all sticky and the table wasn’t clean. Considering the time and the fact that we were the only people sitting in the restaurant area we had to assume that the table just hadn’t been cleaned from the previous night. I ordered the sizzling gammon, with onions, chips and salad. It didn’t take too long to come out but when it did the onions were missing and the gammon looked more burnt than ‘sizzling’. The guy serving us did apologise but then carried on with something else. The rest of the food was simply okay. It was bland and not exciting at all — just like the pub itself. It may be cheap but it’s not cheerful. I didn’t expect a world class meal but I did expect something decent on my plate and good service costs nothing. I really wanted to like it here because there was something that caught my eye on the menu. The Flaming Challenge! A ‘Man V Food’ worthy food challenge. I need something more than a challenge to drag me back there though. I walked back out into the wind and the rumbling of my tum continued…

Used to be good in 2010 but 2012 What a shocking pub! Went in at 6.15pm and overheard the chef telling the assistant manager that there was ½hr wait on food. So when i got to the till to place my order she never mentioned it so it was a good job i heard the chef. Anyway after complaining twice to the young lad who was bringing the food out that people who was behing me in the food que had been served he went to check where our food was, Finally 7.30pm it turns up which was ok. I wanted another round of drinks so went the bar i waited 20 minutes to be served because there was only one barman on who was slower than a snail, the assistant manager was there dealing with unhappy customers, three whilst i was up the bar and not one sorry was mention just excuses. Pay the extra £3 and go the harvester up the road at bassetts pole well worth it. I have being using the white horse for 3 years and it has slowly gone down hill, i keep saying after numerous cock ups on numerous ocassions i will never use it and this is the final nail. Rubbish food rubbish service Rubbish Management!!!

Awful food and surly service. This is supposed to be a steak pub, so you would naturally expect that the kitchen staff can cook steaks properly. They even have a guide explaining what each type of steak should look like on the tables. So, it was strange when(after quite a long wait) our steaks arrived and were horrendously over-cooked. A rare steak was medium/well and a medium/rare steak was well beyond well done. When we complained they didn’t seem bothered. Other customers were complaining too. Truly abysmal experience — will never go back.

Was pleasantly surprised by this pub, quite a few of the two for one places I have tried the food has been barely edible but this one has to be the best I have found so far, I have been there three or four times now and the food has always been to a good standard, the wine is reasonably priced, there is a children’s menu and a play area at the rear, service is always good, you can reserve a table if your thinking of eating at a busier time but you don’t usually have to wait long if you just turn up on spec. The only thing that worried me is that they have two large dogs that stand on the flat roof over looking the play area and the dogs keep barking at the children it wouldn’t take much for them to jump down. Over all though I would defiantly keep this one in my favourite places to eat on a budget :)

2for1 pub/restaurant. separate bar area to restaurant, which is great as you can have a nice family meal away from the serious drinkers, or a good few drinks away from the crying babies and children. Also a play area for the children which is in full view of the restaurant and gated from the car park. All main meals are buy one get one free, they are slightly more expensive than you would expect to pay in a pub,(£9.20 for burger and chips) so somewhat of a con if you are dining alone. Some good offers at lunch time(currently starter main and drink for £5) and there always seems to be a steady trade. Not waitress service any more, there is a separate food ordering point at the bar, where you quote your table number. Staff are friendly and polite, and even at the busiest of times I have not had to wait long for my food. Quality is «good pub food» and typical of chain pub style.

Terrible! What looks like a clean, friendly local pub is let down by the terrible food prep. Each time I have eaten here I have been very ill with an upset stomach. I don’t know what happens in the kitchen in regards to cleaning but if they do it, it’s noway enough.
