I stumbled across this little gem of a place this afternoon when visiting the new Sun Lane Leisure Centre. Thought I would give it a try as i was hunting down some lunch, had originally planned to get a takeaway sandwich.
As soon as I was inside I realised this place was a bit special and as I pondered the menu I had real trouble reaching a decision. All the food the diners were enjoying looked so tasty and everyone was clearing enjoying it. I opted for the lasagne, chips and salad. The chips were old fashioned style home cooked fries, just like my Grandma used to make and although they were really nice, some were a little hard inside, as they were mega chunky. The lasagne was tasty but was very hard around the outsides, think it had been microwaved on too high a setting? Still it was really tasty and i cleared my plate with gusto.
As the place was busy, service was a little slow, but decent home cooked food does take a while. It was a shame that a few of the dishes had sold out, but that is obviously because they are so popular.
There was a lovely friendly atmosphere and the Staff were very helpful and took a genuine interest in the diners, many of who were clearly regulars.
The shop is beautifully decorated and it was lovely and clean. It was clear that lots of thought had gone into making the place a success and I am sure it will really take off.
The Lady who owns the place was out but other diners were discussing how great her foods are and telling me all about her cakes and how she caters for Weddings etc. I later saw photos of her fabulous cakes on facebook and they are works of art!
The prices here were very reasonable and this has a lovely, homely, more upmarket feel to it than all of the other Cafes in Wakefield. It is one of those places where you really enjoy your visit and feel you are amongst friends.
I will certainly be visiting again very soon and I have a feeling that I will become one of the regulars as i am already fond of this lovely find)
