Reading the previous reviews, I wonder whether I went to the same place. Yes, it’s bright and tacky and serves fast food… but isn’t that the point of American diners? I loved the brightly coloured design and the old fashioned mini-juke boxes on each table. It does indeed look like an American diner out of a classic movie. The menu offers the typical diner options(burgers, chilis, shakes) as well as some healthier, vegetarian and even gluten-free options. I ordered the grilled chicken with bacon and cheese and it was very well cooked. We waited for a little while for our food, but that just speaks to the freshness of the meal, it really did taste like higher quality fast food and was very tasty. Overall I did quite enjoy the experience. If you’re looking for a classic tacky diner, give this one a go!

A-OK is as good as it gets here; to be honest I was expecting much worse given the over-the-top attempt at an «American» diner and long, cheap menu involving many burgers, chilli, and suchlike. But it didn’t suck; the chilli burger I had came quickly, and was better than I expected. It’s fast food, really, so the quality of burger isn’t exactly top-drawer, but it was good enough for what I paid, and I found the chilli really quite nice. The melted cheese on top finished it off nicely — so I was not disappointed at all. The waitress(I only really saw one) was rushed off her feet given it was approaching dinner time in a mall, beside a cinema — but was speedy and friendly. The diner feel is somewhat tacky, but it’s pretty apparent that’s what you’re going to get from the outset. There was a jukebox on the table which you could pay for songs on, with proceeds going to charity. Though our song was never played, so I couldn’t tell you if it worked! All in all, it’s going to be difficult for Ed’s to compete with the McDonald’s next door in terms of fast and cheap, and also to compete with the downstairs GBK for great quality burgers… but if you want something in between, perhaps involving chilli, then you’ll find this a decent option, at least.

2.5 stars, but giving the benefit of the doubt. I’d avoided this place since it went in as it looked less than exciting. Now I can say that it’s not an American diner, even if it’s dressed as such. Not horrible, but nothing interesting/amazing. It clearly wants to have the feel of Steak & Shake, but hasn’t bothered to actually craft a menu in that light. My «club sandwich» was more of a chicken burger — not bad, but not a club sandwich and not what I anticipated. 20% for Cineworld Unlimited card holders made it an ok pre-movie choice, but I don’t know that I’ll be back soon.(To be fair, I can’t fully judge a diner without trying their cheese fries, so it may need a 2nd visit). 80% of the music is on point, though.

So this place is a little weird, having been to the Soho branch on many occasions I was a little excited about one opening so close to home. However, it hasn’t ended well. The malaise of Wandsworth and the dreary Southside ‘mall’ has really rubbed off. We went in for a malt on a Saturday, it wasn’t busy and yet we still waited for far too long to order drinks. While waiting I noticed, in large prominent letters on the wall, «Ed says, no food, no drink» sorry Ed, it doesn’t make me order food, it just leads me to mislead the waitresses and let them think I may want to order food. Two members of staff were just chatting behind the bar, two others seems to only be concerned with cleaning tables and one poor guy was trying to be upbeat and serve everyone. No one seemed happy to be there. One positive, the interior and fittings are superb, if you sit away from the open entrance you could really be in a 50’s diner, kudos to the shop-fitters. Needless to say the rest wasnt as good. We eventually got the bill and left… very disappointing and I certainly wouldn’t dream of going back for food.
