My sister and I took our mother for a falconry lesson, which was SO much fun, but we left feeling very cold, hungry and generally in need of stodge. We headed into Ware looking for a roast, and pretty much went to the first pub we could find. The Vine is a large pub, and it wasn’t very warm(not cold either) but we found a table in the restaurant at the back near a radiator that they kindly turned on for us. We all went for the roast and settled in, thankful to be sitting down out of the wind. The roasts didn’t take too long to appear(but it wasn’t so quick as to be suspicious!) They were large plates, piled quite high — and we did them justice! It was spectacular, everything was cooked perfectly, the beef was lovely and the veg was very tasty. The gravy was the highlight — some sort of red wine infused beef reduction thing that was quite delicious. We were very happy! So happy in fact that we decided to order pudding. If we had left it at the roast, this would be a five star review, but we had to take it too far… I ordered the brioche bread and butter pudding, which to be fair tasted amazing and lovely and wonderful. It was just way too cold. The custard wasn’t brilliant and the whole dish needed to be a good 20 degrees hotter to be any use. It felt like someone had sat on it to warm it up! My poor sister ordered the white chocolate cheesecake with mango foam and slated peanuts. The mango was a drizzle, or a jus, or a sauce, but wasn’t a foam. And the whole thing just didn’t work. the peanuts were too salty, the white chocolate cheesecake just tasted like vanilla, the base was soggy, and the mouthful I tried was just wrong wrong wrong. The coffee was good though! So, my advice is don’t be greedy like we were, and just stick to the roast.

Great local. Good food and great wine, beer, and cocktails with friendly staff. My only gripe is it’s near impossible to get a table on the weekends without booking well in advance!

At first appearance you would be correct in identifying another strain of the Gastro(enteritis?) Pub I’m glad I didn’t completely dismiss it though as it is actually quite pleasant, serving a decent selection of beers with no bad background music.

I agree with the other reviewers — it has got a nice unpretentious but slightly classy feel. One of the nicest bars in Ware. Good mix of ages.

A great place — a good cross between a pub and a café bar. Good choice of beer and lager available — including Hoegarden on tap. Food is very good — not quite fulll-on gastro pub but a modern continental cuisine. Always have papers available to read if you stop in for a quick pint. Service — professional and friendly without being too in your face. Choice of traditional tables /chairs, or slouchy sofas to sit on. Also small smoking area at the back, and tables in the street for the summer. Overall — the best place to drink in Ware.

This is a great little bar. Somewhere between being too far up it’s own rear-end and pleasantly lacking any spit and sawdust. Becks Vier on tap seals the deal. They have some neat little coat hooks under the bar rail so for a few lads standing chatting it’s ideal, and as it’s only a minute’s walk from Ware train station it’s easy to get to. It’s got a trendy but not too young atmosphere so there’s no feeling out of place, and as I said at the start, the feel of The Vine means you’re not plagued with either end of the undesirable spectrum of punters. Not tried any food yet, although they are purported to do a nice breakfast!
