I stopped here as a matter of convenience. I don’t think I’ll be rushing to stop here again. Finding myself in the Worthing area just before kick off, this was the nearest pub showing the football. It has an impressive amount of TV screens and a huge wall projector so if you’re just looking to catch a game then this is a satisfactory watering hole. I wished I had left it there. But my grumbling belly told me to order a burger and chips and I happily obeyed. As one of our party had a lap dog we were asked to eat outside. It’s totally cool for an establishment to have this policy where food is served so we went to the ‘beer garden’. It was a pretty unloved patio smoking area with two high tables and a broken heater. After firstly receiving the wrong order, I was then left wishing my food had gone missing all together. Pub grub doesn’t need to be up to much, but a gritty burger and overcooked chips are a little below par. The staff are also a bit surly so don’t expect any warm hospitality vibes. The only redeeming feature was that my team won and I had a great view, so I’ll chuck another star their way. Convenient and good for 90(+15) minutes. Perhaps eat at home.

I went here today with my family to have an early lunch. We placed our order at about 12h45 when the pub was about half full. 35 minutes later, we had to go to the bar to ask where the food was and was told it’d be another 20 minutes. Faced with 2 hungry children, I decided to cancel the food order(aside from my husband’s, who was staying for the football and so had lots of time to spare) and go get something for them to eat at the local supermarket. My husband’s gammon and chips finally arrived at 13h55. Honestly, it’s not haute cuisine and so there is no excuse for not being sufficiently prepared for a Sunday lunchtime and making customers wait(without warning them) over an hour for some pretty basic food. I dare say it’s a nice pub in other respects, but I’m so furious at the poor service I can’t possibly recommend it.

I used to go to this pub regularly when I lived with my parents in Worthing, when it was just a pub(no food) it was fantastic, there was also a regular crowd. The added bonus was that it was staggering distance home. When they started doing food I had moved away from the area but was still down at least once a month in the area so very often went in this pub to meet friends. The food was fine then as was the pub itself. However, about June I went to this pub with a friend. We decided to get food. The first two things we wanted to eat were unavailable so we were onto the third choice. We placed the order(gammon, egg and chips) and then carried on talking. Half an hour passed we had not received our food. We asked, they explained that there was a backlog. This didnt really seem a good explanation given that the pub was not all that busy. But we sat down and carried on talking. Other people were receiving their food and we still hadnt received it after waiting an hour(an hour is unacceptable and the only reason we had not really complained before was that we were so deep in conversation) so we complained and got back our money. A meal such as gammon, egg and chips is easily cooked it does not take an hour. An explanation of it being busy was unacceptable. A pub which used to be fantastic seems now unable to cope! I have given two stars as it is still a good place to go for just a drink and is in a fantastic location.
