This was a most friendly, low-key pub. It’s right inside the city walls near the Bootham gate — a good walking destination. It’s suitable for quieter partiers and other groups. Families with older kids would be comfortable. I would consider hanging out all evening with friends and lots of leisurely pints in the future. As it was, we were still recovering from jetlag, so we had dinner and just one drink. Around the table was the typical pub fare: fish and chips, a dinner pie, and vegetables. They use great fish, and the batter was light enough. All of their food was very tasty. Typical English friendliness and nice service. Really a good experience.
