Restaurant Suan-Long

This restaurant is like a factory churning out run in the mill Chinese food at a fast pace. Most of the dishes are mediocre at best. It gets super crowded at lunch time during the weekdays but you get your order fairly fast. Good for those who only have an hour or less lunch break from work. Most of the patrons are suits anyway due to its prime Enge train station location in the business district.
The chef’s recommendations are a hit or miss. Best to pick out a couple of stables in the menu and stick to them. They could serve better rice like jasmine rice with their dishes but they don’t to keep costs low. The house tea at 5.50 a pop is definitely a rip off considering how stingy they are with tea leafs. It’s like drinking boiled water with a slight hint of tea taste.
There’s also a takeaway cart in front of the restaurant if you’re just looking to grab a quick bite. But I wouldn’t recommend it.

I like this Suan-​Long Restaurant cause I always get a place to sit. They now what I like to eat and drink and the service is fast. I think if U like asian food, you will find something you like. Directly located neaby the trainstation Enge and a Migros is also there. New in 2016 on the other side of the street is the FIFA World Football Museum and a very good Sportsbar of FIFA too with 3 big screens. check it out …

This place is nowhere near what one would consider authentic but the food is actually pretty decent. The dumplings are especially excellent although they take 15+ minutes to make. Frankly if this place only specialized in dumplings it would be a 4 or 5 stars. But I suspect there just isn’t enough demand for them or the owners are too scared of focusing too much on a single type of food. Too bad.

Das Suan Long ist eine Restaurant-​Kette die an vielen Bahnhöfen anzutreffen ist.
Aber hier gilt Suan Long ist nicht gleich Suan Long, während das Essen in den anderen ganz gut ist, schmeckt es mir in diesem Lokal nicht wirklich.
Ich war schon ein paar mal da, meistens weil Kollegen in der Nähe waren und darauf bestanden.
Das Restaurant ist immer voll um 12.00 Uhr einen Platz zu finden ist ohne Reservation fast nicht möglich.
Das Personal ist zwar freundlich aber es gibt oft Verständigungsprobleme, da das Personal schlecht deutsch spricht.
Naja was das Essen anbelangt mein gebratener Reis nach kantonesischer Art, war extrem versalzen (evtl. wollen sie so den Getränke Konsum ankurbeln :-))
und die gebratenen Nudeln waren auch nicht wirklich mein Ding. Es gibt definitiv bessere chinesische Restaurants in Zürich.

This restaurant chain boasts a menu largely consisting of Cantonese/​Westernized Chinese food, but this location is not run by staff of Cantonese origin. It loses two stars for continual stoic customer service along with two bad run ins of customer service incidents. If ranking by ingredients and taste alone, it would get 3.5 stars.
I come here only when someone else insists for lunch on a weekday. I never come here on the weekends because I think you are better off going to Chopsticks or another friendlier establishment with more appreciative people of their customers. In fact, I would rather go to Entehuus for lunch which is about 2 streets away, also near the Enge area.
The last bad incident I had was with a soup order. I had ordered in Chinese what I thought was the brown soup with tofu and pork, which is normally called hot and sour soup (literal translation) in Chinese. I didn’t receive the soup I thought I ordered. Instead, I received a soup that smelled like sweet and sour chicken in a liquid format, with floating hot oil. As you can imagine it could be revolting for someone who is just recovering from the flu and have been feeding off of cough syrup for two weeks. I explained to the male manager nicely that there is no way I could drink this soup as I have been sick and this would hurt me and my sore throat, and if there is anyway he could get me the real «other» hot and sour soup. He seem to not care and started coercing me to pick another soup, to find out the soup I really wanted is actually called Szechuan style soup here. He was unnecessarily all flustered and extremely irritated, and kept repeating that I have to pay additional for this. I thought it was amusing how it was only a small switch of a soup order, he did not have to make a scene and get all flustered. And he did end up charging me for two soups, although he took back the first soup and I never received it. This guy is really unfriendly at times borderline rude every time I go in there. And when they tell you to enjoy your meal in German here, it usually feels stoic.
The other bad experience was a hot summer day and I had walked to the restaurant with my water bottle. When my group of 8 including myself was sitting down, I left my water bottle on the table to get sorted out to sit down. The same male manager seated us and he went out of his way to tell me I was not allowed to bring my own water and drink it at the restaurant in a very rude way. Come on, did he really think I was going to do something like that? Plus, I was at a business lunch.
Also, I’ve noticed that they rotate their young staff, which I believe they hire as hospitality students for a limited amount of time. They seem to be treated poorly by the managers who don’t seem to care about anything else but to get the customers in and out asap to roll the profits. Or my friend just thinks it’s a case of oikophobia.

Got the takeout for the first time today. A small portion of thai red curry with steamed rice cost CHF 11 and was quite tasty.
There was a small wait during weekday lunch hour, but the line moved fairly quickly. We took our food to eat on the bench at Tessinerplatz, which was lovely but a bit crowded during lunch.

Das erste Ketten– Chinarestaurant am Tessinerplatz ist ein Original für sich. Hier ist noch «chinesischer» Kitsch im Überfluss ajour und es wird das klischierte übliche chinesisches Essen serviert.
Daher auch das relativ günstige Preisverhältnis und die naja mässige Bedienung.
Hier geht man nur hin wenn man/​frau wirklich Lust auf Chinajunkfood hat oder einfach nicht allzu viel Geld hat aber trotzdem auswärts essen will.

Wer kennt das Suan Long nicht. Das war einer der ersten Chinesen der Stadt. Damals gab es noch keine Sushis und Co. Ich kann den gut leiden und schmecken! Das essen ist immer frisch, schmeckt gut und ist nicht zu teuer.
Ich finde das trashig — kitschig chinese Enterieur Klasse. Und die Musik erst, herrlich! Das Suan Long war eines der ersten Restaurants wo wir als Teenager verkehrten. Dann fühlten wir uns alle sehr Erwachsen und bestellten Sweet & Sour mit Cola.
Wie ihr seht, gehe ich nun seit über 20 Jahre immer noch hierher. Das muss doch einfach gut sein. Es gibt mehre Standorte, ich gehe gerne an den Tessinerplatz. Taste it!

Dafür, dass das Suan-​Long zu einer Kette gehört, ist das Essen wirklich akzeptabel.
Der Asia-​Food ist frisch zubereitet und die Preise sind absolut akzeptabel. Was mich immer wieder erstaunt, wie schnell die in der Küche und Service arbeiten. Denn kaum hat man bestellt, ist das Essen schon auf dem Tisch.
Praktisch ist auch, dass man genau das gleiche Essen wie im Restaurant auch über Take-​Away haben kann.
Was mich etwas stört, manchmal ist das Essen schon ein wenig (für meinen Geschmack) zu fettig.

Günstiges und gutes Chinesisches Essen in Zürich? Schwierig? Nein! Bei Suan Long ist es gut, sogar sehr gut sowie auch günstig.
Das Suan Long Restaurant beim Bahnhof Enge ist eine tolle Sache um gutes Chinesisches Essen zu geniessen. Wenn unbedingt nötig auch in Windeseile, denn das Bestellte kommt jeweils nur Minuten später auf den Tisch! Heiss, lecker und schön präsentiert.
Das Angebot ist riesig, und beinhaltet alles, was beim letzten Ferienurlaub in Hong Kong auch auf den Speisekarten stand. Poulet Sweat-​Sour, Nudelsuppen und Dim Sum, alles ist vorhanden. Die Zutaten sind immer frisch und schmecken vorzüglich.
Das Restaurant vereint Tradition sowie einen modernen Touch. Ein Aufenthalt bei Suan Long ist exotisch und typisch chinesisch. Das Personal lächelt stets freundlich, ist sehr aufmerksam und äusserst speditiv. Auch in hektischen Situationen herrscht immer eine angenehme Ruhe im Lokal und man hat nie das Gefühl, dass noch andere Gäste im Restaurant sind. Ich habe jeweils den Eindruck, dass nur ich bedient werde. Nette junge Frauen huschen sanft an einem vorbei und schenken das Getränk nach oder zünden die erloschene Kerze wieder an. Dies alles so ruhig und unstörend, dass ich mich manchmal frage, wie das eigentlich geht.
Bei Suan Long kann man auch ohne Reservierung vorbei, es hat immer noch irgendwo einen Platz. Dies liegt wohl am grossen Lokal. Unzählige Tische zählt das Restaurant und der grosse Raum mit den hohen Decken gibt viel Luft und Raum zum atmen. Man wird super schnell bedient, und vor allem über Mittag, wenn die Zeit vielleicht etwas knapp ist, ist das einfach einfach wunderbar. Und wenn man so im Stress ist, dass man im Office essen muss, dann steht über die Mittagszeit ein Take-​Away-​Wagen vor dem Lokal, bei welchem man die Favoriten-Menü’s von Suan Long schnell und unkompliziert bestellen und mitnehmen kann. Einfach genial!
Gutes chinesisches Essen muss also nicht teuer sein! Bei Suan Long ist es günstig und lecker — genauso muss es sein!

Suan Long Restaurants kenne ich mehrere, ob in der Stadt oder ausserhalb. Auf eines kann man sich verlassen: alles schmeckt an allen Orten relativ ähnlich und das Angebot ist auch einheitlich.
Suan Long bietet zu fairen Preisen leckeren China-​Food und einen guten Service. Die Bar eignet sich gut um auf seine «Mitesser» zu warten oder eine kleine Vorspeise zu verzehren. Die gebackenen Scampi sind einfach super lecker und auch die Pouletspiessli Satay sind für den Start ein echtes Highlight.
Die Kellner sind sehr aufmerksam (schenken oft sogar die Cola nach, süss!) und haben meist ein Lächeln auf den Lippen. Die Gerichte sind sehr breit und bieten von kantonesischem Reis über Naturreis oder gebratene Nudeln (mit oder ohne Gemüse) alles, was man sich erträumt. Natürlich sind Schwein, Rind, Poulet, Scampi und Ente auf der Speisekarte vertreten und es gibt sie in vielen verschiedenen Varianten. Ob scharf, süss, süss-​sauer, herzhaft, gebraten, gebacken oder mit Gemüse, es ist wahrlich ein kleines Schlaraffenland.

Das Suan-​Long China Restaurant am Tessinerplatz ist soviel ich weiss auch das Erste dieser Restaurantkette und wohl eins der Grösseren. Ob über Mittag oder gemütlich am Abend, die Kellnerinnen und Kellner sind schnell und der Koch mit seinem Vok noch schneller. Man muss selten auf das Essen warten und zur Unterhlaltung hat man auf jeder Seite des Restaurants riesige Plasma TV’s.
An der Bar kann man sich nach der Arbeit bei einem Bier etwas ausruhen und/​oder sich mit Freunden und Bekannten treffen.
Es gibt auch Chinesisches Bier. Bei den Menüs kann man aus einer ausführlichen Karte mit Chinesischen/​Theiländischen Gerichten auswählen. Das Essen ist gut, manchmal ein wenig Fettlastig, aber das gehört wohl zur Asiatischen Küche.
Wem es nicht reichen sollte, über Mittag zu einem Lunch im Restaurant, der kann sich beim Take-​Away davor verpflegen. Nudeln mit Gemüse Frühlingsrolle und ein/​zwei weitere Gerichte gibts da günstig und in der Kartonschale.
Fast hätt ichs noch vergessen. — Den Tee, der ist sehr zu empfehlen. Grüntee oder Jasmintee im Krug.
