Augustinerbrau

Mein Freund war begeistert, ich leider nicht so. Ich wusste nicht was mich dort erwartet, aber nach einem langen Tag voller herumwandern, wollte ich nicht auch noch mein Essen und trinken ständig selbst holen gehen. Noch dazu waren wir so spät dran, dass es ohnehin fast nichts gscheites mehr zum essen gab. Und ein Bierfan bin ich sowieso schon gar nicht.
Aber ok, meinem Freund zu liebe, sind wir dort geblieben und ich habs geschafft mich mit einem Almdudler und einem lauwarmen Brandhendl zu begnügen. Möglicherweise ist es dort tagsüber schöner aber generell sind mir dort viel zu viele Menschen. Das war so riesig dort in dem Gastgarten. EIN WAHNSINN! Und zu so später Stunde natürlich auch noch angetrunkene. Naja, jeder wie er mag. Aber meins war das dort nicht wirklich. Obwohl es natürlich schon irgendwie sein eigenes Flair hat. Im Sommer im lauschigen Gastgarten ist es vielleicht etwas angenehmer. Es war allerdings schon abends, mir war kalt, haben meine Füße weh getan und ich hatte riesen Kohldampf! ;-)

Waren am Karfreitag da und hatte jede Menge Spaß, schöné Thermosphäre, wie Biergarten nur im schönen Gewölbe.
Werden wohl nächstes Jahr wieder kommen!

Schöné verschiedene Säale, tolle alte Bilder und wirklich sehr ansprechendem Ambiente.
Das Essen war reichlich, Kellner waren nett und hilfreich.
Die Tageskarte war übersichtlich und ausreichend.
Wir kommen gern wieder.

We enjoyed a hot meal at around 4 of Leberkaese, Wurst, potato salad, tomato salad, sauerkraut, and a beer. The Leberkaese was the best I have had, sort of sweeter than normal, but good. The whole thing is kind of like a food market with different counters that offer different things like prepared salads, sausages, meats, bread and rolls, sweets, beer and other drinks, and then you pay individually at each one then find a seat at one of the seats in the large rooms, sharing the table with others, and dig in. Good food, fun experience, and great to try food not found at home!

One of the best beer halls in Europe! So worth your time.

This was a pleasant surprise after an 8 hr flight and another 4 hour train /​bus ride to Salzburg. This beer garden has everything: beer (big and small), and plenty of food! Our friends have been coming here since they were kids and knew exactly what to order. We tried the local beer, chicken, grilled trout, pork shank, pork bologna, pretzels, rolls, potato salad, pickled radish, beef tripe, and some other sides I am forgetting. Everything was reasonably priced and delicious!

A couple from New Jersey shared this but of intelligence with us — definitely stop here for beer and a bite. It’s a monastery and the monks make a beer and open up the church hall to anyone. They only make a Märzen beer but it is rich in color and delicious. The front entry door is a little hard to find but ask someone and they’ll point you through a hidden beer garden and then to the front. Walk in and large built in shelves greet you. Grab a stoneware stein, rinse it out at a water stand a few feet away, then pay the cashier. Take your receipt to another guy and he fills it up. There are several halls at the church /​brewery to eat in. Down one hall are about 6 – 8 food stalls with all Bavarian food. Cool spot!

When traveling to Europe from the states there are always little things or places you’d like to bring back with you. For me this was the Augustinerbrau. This place is great, and is a must stop when visiting Salzburg. The Augustinerbrau is a large beer hall with steins to be rinsed and filled for roughly 3 euros. Around the corner of the Beer area lie’s about 10 different vendors selling all types of German and Austrian foods, and snacks. On our trip we had the Pork Shank with a side of potato and sour cream. This was by far the best Pork Shank of the trip, and the cheapest! We tried a few other things as well, and found everything to be delicious. Weather you decide to sit inside the historic Beer Hall or out in the amazing Beer Garden Augustinerbrau is by all means not to be missed! Be sure to take your Euros as this Beer Hall is cash only. Enjoy!

Not much to add that has not already been said. Huge biergarten with lots of locals and tourists alike. There is tons of outdoor and indoor seating available, the beer hall was once a monastery which gives interesting character to the place. Downstairs you can grab a half liter stein and fill it up for 3 euro of Augustiner beer. Yum. Make sure you rinse out your stein at the water fountain beforehand.
There are several stalls upstairs that sell foods, ranging from main course types (pork belly, schnitzel), to more snacky foods (ham, fries, onion rings). There are bread stands too. We just made our own little sandwiches haha. Everything is reasonably priced.
A must visit if you are in Salzburg!

Austineebrau has a real. Atmospheres and typical German cuisine but the night we ate there he ood wa/​te44ible!

This place is amazing. We saw hundreds, maybe thousands of locals and tourists of different ages, it’s quite a sight.
It was rainy on the day we went so it was pretty packed indoors despite getting there around 6pm. It’s a self serve beer garden — grab your own beer and food from the stalls, find a table, have a good time. There is one particular food stand that is very popular, it’s the one with cut meat. We got the ham combo, though it had quite a lot of fat meat. Potato salad is delish. We got some bratwurst later on, delicious as well. They have 0.5L and 1L size mugs for the beers. There are also various coolers and sodas. Overall very cheap prices for a good and lively time.

Es gibt kaum schönere Orte, um einen sonnigen Tag ausklingen zu lassen, als den Biergarten des Augustiner Bräustübls in Salzburg-​Mülln.
Das Bier holt man sich selbst in Steingutkrügen, die Halbe € 3 und die Mass € 6. Das Bier ist unnachahmlich frisch und süffig.
Die Brotzeit bringt man selber mit, oder kauft sie gleich in der Schmankerlgasse; das Angebot ist vielfältig, allerdings nicht ganz billig.

I really could go here every night and be happy. So many food choices, great beer and the atmosphere is so incredible. Way exceeded my expectations even with the great reviews. Such a unique concept. Grab a mug off the wall (go for a big one), rinse it out. Pay for your beer and then stop at the various food stands. Share a table with strangers.

The Augustiner is a must for anyone visiting Salzburg! This place has such character and I think that anybody who goes to Europe should experience an authentic beer hall. When else are you going to be able to fill your stein up with beer that comes from a fountain?
I lived in Salzburg for a few months, and I miss this place more and more every day. We spent a lot of time in the outside area on a beautiful day, drinking and eating. We were able to take a tour of the brewery, which was fascinating because they brew their beer using very traditional methods. So, if you find yourself in the area, please do yourself a favor and stop by the Augustiner. I mean, if you didn’t sit at a long table with a giant stein of beer and a sausage in your hand, did you really go to Austria?

Our Lonely Planet guide struck yet another winner for our honeymoon trip to Austria. We had one day to spend n Salzburg and really wanted to have a a laid-​back drinking experience while we were visiting. Augustiner Brau is a .5 mile walk from the historic centre just beyond the craggy cliffslide. You walk into what I presume is the monastery part and walk downstairs for the signs that say «Bier» to the brewery and biergarten.
The food hall has a bunch of local food vendors selling pretty much every kind of sausage, pork cut, and sides. To get a beer, you go through a 4 step process of purchasing a beer, picking your mug size (huge or gigantic), washing it out that the basin, and then handing your token to the guy with the kegs to fill ‘er up. Beers on tap that day were a Marzen and Bock. The bock in particular stood out with a more complex taste but both were highly drinkable.
It was chilly the evening we were there but there appeared to be many people enjoying the outdoor biergarten that had lots of twinkling lights and heaters. Overall, it is a wonderful way to enjoy a beer and some pork belly with the locals. One of the best parts of our honeymoon and I want to go back already.

Augustinerbrau is a wonderful place to spend a few hours and enjoy great Austrian brew and food! It’s worth making sure you go if you ever find yourself in Salzburg!

Authentic, delicious and fun! I recently ended a three day visit to Salzburg with an early dinner at Augustinerbrau, and it was a great choice.
We were a little hesitant at first as the directions on Unilocal and Google Maps took us to the top street entrance, which was empty and very nondescript. But after finding our way downstairs, it was an awesome pleasant surprise. The place is a quintessential Austrian beer hall; there are numerous food stands along the main hall that serve all manner of meats, cheese, breads and treats and a main area serving drinks. Beers are served in two sizes, though it seems the 1 liter is the norm. There is also a mixed selection of bottled drinks.
It was November when we visited so the outside seating area was closed, the hall itself was relatively packed and it took some time to find a table. Afterwards we went about ordering a little of everything; some sausages and other meat pâté’s, some amazing roast pork belly slices and a host of other Austrian/​Bavarian fare. All were quite good and priced very well. The beer of course made it all come together!
Aside from the food, it’s really the atmosphere of the place that makes it so great. The tables are filled with patrons young and old, there’s a smattering of what looks like whole families eating and drinking together, and there were even a few kids running around. It was a very relaxed, fun and casual atmosphere. We noticed right away we seemed to be the only tourists there, but everyone was very welcoming and some even offered to translate the menus when we seemed hesitant at the food lines.
We came here on a recommendation from a friend who spent some time in Salzburg and we couldn’t agree more. No trip to Salzburg is complete without at least a visit to Augustinerbrau!

This was by far one of our favorite experiences during our two week European adventure. We were told to come here for dinner and a brew by a bartender at a nearby Irish pub. We were only in Saltzburg for one night and I’m glad we spent it here.
You enter the abbey and go downstairs to the Biergarten where local food vendors are set up with all sorts of yummy hot meals.
There are two beer halls, one smoking and one non. Find a table that has room and sit down with your food. Make sure you go around the side and pay the man for your beer. Keep your receipt! Grab a mug from the wall of mugs and rinse it out in the fountain. Then show your receipt to the monk serving beer. He won’t talk to you but will grunt and fill up your mug. Then sit down at a table, make some friends and enjoy a liter or two! We met another American here and ended up wandering around Saltzburg with him all night!
Also, the ribs and potato salad that I had were SOOO GOOD. One of the best meals of our entire trip.

Love this place! As all the reviews will tell you, you go in and pay they give you a receipt (important to keep) and a mug. Take the mug to the water station and rinse it out (tradition) then take it to the filling station where you show your receipt and they fill your mug and Slide it to you!
Make your way to the Biergarten and snag a table. It’s that easy! There are various food stands throughout the brewery, inside and out. Also, make sure you get the mug after you pay, not upstairs like me *oops*.
This brewery has a huge parking lot but also very easy to get to from public transportation (which I used), the bus stops right in front of the brewery.
The Biergarten is one I wish I had at home as it’s wonderful and huge!

Das Braustübl wird ab jetzt bei jedem Salzburgbesuch zumindest ein mal aufgesucht… :) Das Bier trifft genau meinen Geschmack und die bei den diversen Essensständen angebotenen, zum Teil deftigen Schlemmereien sind ebenfalls 1A…
Äusserst positiv ist auch der Umstand, dass bei Konsumation im Bräustübl der Parkplatz gratis benützt werden kann — selbstverständlich sollte in diesem Fall eine nicht durch das hervorragende Bier beeinträchtigte Person das Auto nach Hause fahren… diverse Softdrinks werden ja auch angeboten… :)

This is the perfect place to go if you are a true beer lover. My wife and I ventured here and it is off of the beaten path, definitely not a tourist trap. It’s very neat to drink in a monastery. There is a great outdoor area with ample seating so I would recommend venturing here when the weather is nice to get the full experience. We first tried coming on a rainy day and the seating inside is somewhat limited. When your ready, you simply pay and wash out a beer mug and enjoy a beer within a fantastic setting. When seated we met another couple from the US and had a great afternoon in the beer garden. Who could ask for more. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Austria!

If you are visiting Salzburg, you have got to make it over to this gem. I love the whole process here in all of it’s simplicity. You walk up to the register, pay for either a liter or half liter, you go grab a stein off the wall, wash it out with water and walk up to the guy at the tap. He fills you up, and then you head out into the beer garden.
They have all sorts of food available from vendors in the garden, or you can go into the big halls on the inside. They have private rooms if you need that, and a gift shop if you need that.
Anyone who would like to drink good beer in a beautiful setting (inside or out) should come check this out.

If you are in Salzburg you must go to this beerhall it’s absolutely amazing! The beer hall was founded by Augustinian monks dating back to 1621. We were there right when the place was about to open on a Saturday at 2:30pm and it very quickly filled up and I can now understand why! This place is just wonderful!
The way the place works is you go outside (they have indoor and outdoor seating) and you pay for a ceramic stein which you can keep and you have the option of half a litter or litter beer and if you want table service or not. Once you pay make sure the KEEP the receipt because after you select your mug you give the receipt to one of the guys working at the back and they fill it up with delicious beer! I was surprised at the lack of options but once I tasted the beer it was delicious so I couldn’t complain! The combination of tasting it out of a ceramic stein also made the beer more enjoyable.
As far as the food, they have a huge variety of food stalls on the second flood and you can get Austrian/​German food or other varieties including desserts. So basically you can buy whatever you want and just bring it to your table. They give you the option of bringing your own food too and you can sit wherever you like!
I was really impressed by this place! Good job Augustinerbrau!

Das Bräustübl muss man gesehen haben und das Bier getrunken haben.
Essen selbst mitnehmen oder bei den dortigen Geschäften direkt in der Brauerei kaufen und genießen. Auch im Sommer perfekt im Gastgarten.

wer in salzburg ist sollte hier her. am abend eine jause mit nehmen und mit freunden bei einer mass bier den abend ausklingen lassen. zur späten stunde zückt eure Bierdeckel und schickt diese durch die hallen ;) im sommer ist der gastgarten super lässig wenn man (n) einen platz dawischt.

Hat uns in Salzburg von allen Gaststätten am besten gefallen. Der Augustinerkeller ist total urig und auch gar nicht so überteuert wie alles andere in der Stadt. Der Biergarten ist schön und auch in der Braustube kann man schön sitzen, wenn man einen Platz bekommt.

Es gibt Rinderbacken. Und Bier. Und noch weiteres Deftiges. Und wenn es warm wird, kann man Draußen statt im bis zu 1500 Personen fassenden, größten Saal sitzen. Viele Stammtische, etwas abseits der Touristenrouten. Ein guter Zwischenstopp wenn man durch Salzburg kommt.

Dieser Biergarten ist der Beste in Salzburg und sicherlich einer der Besten in denen ich jemals war. Die ganze Atmosphäre ist einfach unschlagbar, besonders wenn die Kastanien blühen. Dann kann man mit ausgezeichnetem Bier und einer guten Brezel den Nachmittag genießen. Auch drinnen kann es lustig sein, das ist so eine richtige riesigeTrinkhalle wo es auch mal hoch hergeht.
Ein muss wenn man die österreichische Brautradition kennenlernen will und sich in Salzburg entspannen will. Hier trifft man viele Einheimische und nicht nur Touristen.

Ich kann mich den Vorrednern nur anschließen:
Der schönste Biergarten, die urigste Gaststätte und das leckerste Bier von ganz Salzburg.
Wer hier kein Krug Bier getrunken hat, war nicht in Salzburg.

Ein must, wenn man in Salzburg ist!

Dies ist ein sehr klassisches Kloster mit eigener Brauerei.
Das Bier ist optimal, süffig.
Die Karte bietet allerdings keinen weißen Spritzer (Weißweinschorle), was in weiblicher Begleitung ein großer Nachteil ist.
Ehrlich gesagt bietet die Karte nur Bier und wer Cola oder diverse andere Getränke möchte zahlt ordentlich drauf.
Essenstechnisch gibt es sicher hochwertigere Küchenkunst in Salzburg.
Zu Essen gibt es lediglich Brotzeitvon diversen sehr teuren Anbietern welche sich nur in kleinen Ständen eingemietet haben und ordentlich an der Preisschraube gedreht haben.
Fazit:
An sich, sehr schönes Kloster, und das Bier ist lecker aber die Auswahl ist sehr spartanisch und auf das Angebot an Speisen hat der Betreiber sicher keinen Einfluss, aber schön ist es trotzdem nicht, wenn man die Wahl zwischen Käse mit Brot und Schinken mit Brot hatabgesehen davon ist die Qualität auch nur Touristen Klassed.h. es muss nicht gut sein, sondern nur teuer weil jeden Tag sowieso andere Leute kommen und man nicht angewiesen ist auf Stammgäste

Der wohl orginellste Biergarten, den wir bis jetzt gesehen haben. Und riesig. Auch die Selbstbedienung tut dem keinen Abbruch. Parkplätze gibt es in Fülle.
Das Essen war in Ordnung und auch die Preise

Eine Brauerei und Gasthof in dieser Form ist in Österreich schwer bis gar nicht zu finden. Da muß man schon nach Deutschland /​Bayern fahren. Das Bier trinken ist dort ein Erlebnis. Man geht erstmal zur Ausgabe. Nimmt sich dort einen Halbenliter oder Literkrug, schwemmt ihn im Brunnen aus, geht dann zur Kassa und bezahlt, dann mit dem Kassabon wird einem das Bier frisch in den Krug gefüllt und man kann zurück an den Tisch gehen. Platz findet man fast immer im riesigen Garten im Sommer, aber auch im Winter in den großen Sälen. Essen kann man selbst mitbringen. Es gibt aber auch ein paar Verkaufsstände für Wurst, Fleisch, Brot und Gebäck und eine Trafik im Inneren. Ich liebe dieses Lokal :-)

Etwas außerhalb des touristischen Salzburgs, aber in direkter Nähe zum «Müllnersteg» (Zugang zum bekannten Schloss «Mirabelle») liegt ein wenig versteckt der große Augustiner Bräu Keller.
Wer die Augustinergasse gefunden hat, kann eigentlich nichts mehr falsch machen, außer deutlich vor 15 Uhr hier zu sein. Die Öffnungszeiten des Kellers sind etwas gewöhnungsbedürftigt (bzw. Für Tagestoursiten einfach unpraktisch!), aber ein Bescuh lohnt sich auf alle Fälle.
Über eine breite Treppe geht es runter in den Keller, wo man zu erst einmal entlang der «Schmankerlgasse» zum Appetitt holen lang geht. Etwas schwieriger wird es ein Bier zu bekommen, bis man das Verfahren verstanden hat. Aus einem «Krugschrank» greift man sich ein Gefäß in gewünschter Größe, geht dann zur Kasse, kriegt eine Bön, wonach dann der Schankwirt den Krug füllt. Niemals vergessen (weil es cool ist), den Krug am Brunnen auszuspühlen!
Mit Bier und Essen ausgestattet sucht man sich dann einen Sitzplatz in den rusitkalen Biersälen. Immer geöffnet ist Stockhammerlsaal (Saal 1), alle anderen werden nach Bedarf geöffnet.
Achtung: Mit Ausnahme von zwie besonders gekennzeichneten Sälen ist das Rauchem im Saal erlaubt. Da muss man sich als Deutscher auch erst mal wieder dran gewöhnen.
Für mich ein absoluter Pflichttermin bei jedem Besuch in Salzburg. Je größer die Gruppe, je größer der Spaß, aber auch alleine oder zu zweit hat man hier sehr schnell, sehr nette Tischgenosssen.
Konditorei Richter, Getreidegasse (ganz hinten (St. Blasius, Bürgerspitalplatz) Salzburg
Der wirkliche Erfinder der berühmten «Mozartkugeln» auch wenn die Hauptproduktion heute von einem Konkurrenten hergestellt wird. Dafür werden die Mozartkugeln bei Richter noch immer von Hand hergestellt und sind daher eben auch etwas teurer, aber auch leckerer als die Industrieware.
Die Konditorei Richter hat verschiedene Verkaufststellen in Salzburg und irgendwo soll es auch ein echtes Kaffee geben. Besonders leicht zu finden ist aber der kleine Verkaufsladen am Ende/​Anfang der Getreidegassse. Leider ist auch dieser Laden imemr recht voll, trotzdem hat man die Chance ohne allzulange Wartezeiten an die beliebten Souvenirs ranzukommen. Neben den Mozartkugeln gibt es auch noch ein paar andere Pralinen und Naschereien.
Wer Souvenirs brauchte sollte diesen Laden ansteuern. Nicht vergessen: Mindestens eine handgeschöpßte Mozartkugel auf die Hand mitgeben lassen :-)

Im Sommer absolut Super!

Wir waren im Winter dort — ohne den hochgelobten Biergarten genutzt zu haben und waren wie alle anderen sehr begeistert. Am Montagabend gab es dieses wunderbare Bier dann auch noch zum halben Preis.
Meine erste 5 Sterne Wertung trotz Selbstbedienung. Echt, lecker und ein Muss für jeden Salzburg Besuch.

Das Muellner Braeu ist eine Pflichtuebung bei jedem Salzburgbesuch.

Um sich das echt leckere Bier aus dem Steinkrug in die Venen z giessen und
um sich ueber die massloss ueberteuerten Speisen aufzuregen! (und dann die selber mitgbrachten zu essen ;-))
