Stiegl Brauwelt

I will preface this with if you are looking for a tour that takes you through the production facilities, then the Stiegl tour (as of April 2016) is probably not for you. We attended the 3 pm English tour, which took us through their beer «museum». We were shown a video and walked through various setups of brewing stages (not actual production). However, with that said, we did enjoy the tour, which came with free samples and two Stiegl mugs! We had a few beers and a snack afterwards in the courtyard beer garden which was lovely and full of shades. The service was very friendly.
I personally have heard of Stiegl only as of 4 – 5 years ago when I had the grapefruit radler for the first time in the US. For people who are fans of the Radler, you must try the Holler-​Weisse (a low alcohol content shandy of wheat beer + elderflower lemonade). This is the best shandy I ever had, with a delicate balance of fragrance and malt. It was refreshing and not overly sweet and light in calories (heads up to the ladies). I hope they plan to export these soon as I foresee these being wildly popular just as their grapefruit radlers have been.
All in all, we spent a relaxed few hours at the Stiegl Brewery.

Our group of five people visitied the Stiegl Brauwelt as part of our univeristy project with the aim of finding the best beer in town.
Although the Stiegl beer itself should not be new for anyone, who has spent at least two days in Salzburg, the Stiegl Brauwelt is more than just a simple beer experience.
Those who are interested about it, can make the tour around the actual brewery, to find out how Salzburg’s pride is made, and of course, Stiegl-​merchandise can aslo be found in the Stiegl shop opening to the inner court.
The dining hall of the Brewery is very spatious, tastefully decorated, and the volume of the traditional Austrian music is set just to the right volume in order to set the mood, but also to make guests feel comfortable.
We were happy to see on our menu card, that a very wide range of beer types is offered, and not only the classic Goldbräu that all Salzburg-​based people already know.
All beers we requested samples from were very specical, and fairly priced, given that we were at one of Salzburg’s touristic highlights. Would recommend the Stiegl Bock, and the Stiegl Zwickl for the passionate beer drinkers, and the Stiegl Holler-​Weisse to those who are less enthusiastic about beer, but would still get a taste of the Salzburg beer experience.
Only downfall during our visit was the waiter not being particularly friendly with us, but that does not necessarily need to generally be the case.

Unfortunately no AC in the museum on this hot summer day.
Stiegl has perfected marketing and branding. Of course you can stop in the store following the tour to pick up your included gift (a mini mug — pretty cute) and other branded merchandise.
The beer tasting included three .2 L offerings on tap. Fun to try the bi-​monthly changing house beer, only available at the brewery.
I wouldn’t pay 11 € to do this, but with the card, it was a fun stop.

Leider bekamen wir keinen Platz auf der unteren Terrasse so dass wir auf den oberen Bereich ausweichen mussten.
Hier war der Ausblick deutlich besser, aber leider mussten wir die Tische selbstständig reinigen.
Der Weg zum Essen führte über zwei Etagen was ich eher suboptimal finde.
Die Qualität des Essens hat uns gar nicht überzeugt und die Preise waren dafür absolut unangemessen.
Ehrlich gesagt haben wir bereut nicht auf der Festung gegessen zu haben. Dort waren die Preise ähnlich, das Essen sah deutlich besser aus und der Ausblick ist wirklich gigantisch.

My father is a Salzburger native and I fell in love with the beer of Stiegl from my visits to Salzburg. We have never been to the brewery as we thought it was a tourist trap. On our recent trip to Salzburg we wanted to visit the factory because our dog is named Stiegl and wanted swag for him.
The beer shop is packed with tons of Stiegl merchandise at reasonable prices. We bought tickets for € 11 euro a self guided tour and also bought an upgrade for a Stiegl employee to show us around. The factory is very impressive and completely clean!
We were very pleased with the tour as we were told the tour guide would only speak German but he also give us the tour in English! We did not have plans for the rest of the day and once we left we spent about 3 hours there! The tour ended with three 0.2L tastings which were all good and fresh.
We also ate at their tasting room and the traditional meal was delicious! Once we ate we spent € 75 on merchandise and got a free wool Steigl bag! We are bringing back to the US some of their small batch creative beer. The rest of the day my father was telling all his friends how surprised he was with the tour. If you have the Salzburg card the self guided tour is free with the three tasting and a free gift!
Highly recommended if you like beer and you have some extra time. Prost!

Get the Salzburg Card and this brewery tour is free! It was well worth the visit. We got the tour, three tastings of like 4 – 6 ounces and a free gift! The tour starts in a 360 movie theater, think Disneyland in the 80s. It was an interesting short film about making beer (the movie was in English, surprisingly). We must have been there on a slow day b/​c we were the only ones in the movie theater. The self-​tour continues in their museum, which we ran through b/​c we wanted to get to the tasting! ha!
I loved the grapefruit raddler! You do the tastings in the restaurant and they offer a full menu of food for purchase too. We got some potato wedges with two dipping sauces and some cheese infused sausage (when in Rome). The food was really tasty! You can also buy any of the beers to-​go in the gift shop. The grapefruit raddlers were only .90 Eur cents (about $ 1.20 USD) for 20 oz bottles!!! We were leaving the next day for Munich, so we only bought four, but man I wanted a case!
If you have some time to kill in Salzburg, this is def worth a stop. I think we spent about 90 to 120 minutes here. Not a huge time commitment. Would def recommend, especially if you have the Salzburg Card!

Der Besuch hat sich mal gelohnt! :)
Tolle Führung mit Kinoerlebnis, Erläuterung des Brauens samt Rohstofen mit Einblick in die Braukunst. Wenn man Glück hat, sieht man sogar die Braumeister beim Brauen der Hausbiere. Dazu gibt es noch ein Biermuseum. Man kann diesen Gang samt Fühung machen oder auch allein erkunden ich würde die Führung empfehlen.
Man zahlt 9,-EUR für ein Ticket, welches inkl.:
— Führung
— drei Bierproben
— und einem kleinen Geschenk ist (Bierglas, Flasche oder Flaschenöffner)
Ich kann nur sagen: Tolles Erlebnis! Auch das Essen in der Gastronomie ist sehr lecker zu angemessenen Preisen.
Einzig die Preise im Fanshop, wo man auch alle Biere kaufen kann, sind doch teuer oder bin ich einfach günstigere Bierpreise (auch von großen Brauereien) in Deutschland gewohnt? Naja, ist sicher Geschmacksache, aber 20,-EUR für né Kiste Bier oder 1×0,75l Hausbier für 6,90EUR sind schon happig

Wir hatten spontan einen Tisch in der Brauwelt reserviert, die man mit der Linie 10 bequem und schnell erreicht. (Der Tisch war dann in der Paracelsusstube)
Für die Führung waren wir leider zu spät dran.
Gegessen haben wir einen Schweinebraten und ein Saiblingsfilet. Beides war Spitzenmäßig und hat wirklich toll geschmeckt. Der Schweinebraten lag knapp unter 10 EUR und ich hatte befürchtet, dass die Portion klein sein könnte, aber weit gefehlt:

Auch von den Getränken gab es eine sehr interessante Auswahl an Bieren und Biercocktails, wie z.B. den Bierhugo. Das Stiegl Bier ist im Allgemein recht leicht und passt sehr gut zum Essen.
Neben dem tollen Essen und dem leckeren Bier hat mich die sehr sehr hilfsbereite, professionelle und freundliche Bedienung beeindruckt. Der Service ist schon fast unfassbar gut gewesen, was man leider selten noch findet.
Daher kann ich die Brauwelt, auch wenn sie etwas außerhalb vom Stadtkern liegt nur wärmstens empfehlen.

Biere sehr gut Essen sehr gut Museum sehr gut. Für eine Brauerei die sich solche Mühe gibt gibt es einfach die Bestnote.

Gaststätte sehr nett hergerichtet. Bierpreise nicht überteuert. Es gibt auch viele nette Souveniers im Shop.

Alles schon fast etwas zu groß, da kommen die Bedienungen kaum hinterher. Dafür ist das panierte Schnitzel dort weltklasse und das Bier schmeckt mit der tollen Aussicht gleich doppelt so gut.

Auch wir fanden schlecht hin, da die Beschilderung nach wie vor zu Wünschen übrig lässt. Endlich dort angekommen gab’s eine Führung durch die Stiegl Brauwelt. Langweilig. Wirklich nur etwas für Interessierte. Wenn man von Freunden mitgeschleppt wird (wie es bei mir der Fall war) kann man es vergessen. Eins muss ich aber sagen, die Dame welche die Führung leitete war sehr nett und es scheinte, als hätte sie tatsächlich Ahnung von dem was sie redete. Dann ging’s noch auf ein Bier ins Restaurant. Dort herrscht Massenabfertigung vom Feinsten. Natürlich ist jeder im Stress wenn viel los ist, aber ein bisschen auf den Gast einzugehen wäre nun wirklich nicht zu viel verlangt. Meine Bewertung im Gesamten schwankt zwischen 2 und 3 Sternen, wobei ich mich nun für die schlechtere Bewertung entscheide.

This place is a great find. With a self guided tour ticket you get samples of three beers, snack, and a souvenir. The environment is very relaxing. The tour us very informative. The wait person was nice. The restrooms were very clean. We stayed here for over three hours. It is easy to find. Take the #21 bus. The walk is 5 – 7 min.

Während unseres Salzburgtrips waren wir auch in Stiegls Brauwelt. Waren allerdings nicht im Museum sondern nur im Restaurant. Hier war es rustikal eingerichtet und die Bedienung war sehr nett. Wir hatten das Zwickerlbier empfohlen bekommen weil es schön süffig und mild sein soll. Und das war nicht zuviel versprochen. Auch das naturtrübe Hefeweizen war lecker. Dazu gab es eine gute Scheibe Schweinebraten mit Semmelknödel und Speckkrautsalat. Das war eine Portion zum satt werden und wir sind gute Esser. Man beachte allerdings, dass die Gaststube von 14 – 18 Uhr wohl zu ist und dann ist nur noch der verqualmte große Brauerreibereich offen. Zum Nachtisch gab es noch Apfelstrudel mit Vanilleeis. Auch lecker. Preise waren auch o.k. Ein Besuch ist hier durchaus zu empfehlen.

Von den Rohstoffen bis zum fertigen Bier wird hier alles ausführlich, interessant und anschaulich erklärt. Auch wird hier die Geschichte der österreichischen Brauereien, von denen die meisten leider untergegangen sind, gewürdigt. An Ende des Besuchs, zu dem man sich wirklich Zeit nehmen sollte wartet eine Bierverkostung (3 Bons) und ein Präsent aus dem Brauwelt-​Shop. Ein tolles Museum und für den Bierfreund fast ein absolutes Muss. Achja, und das Essen im Restaurant ist auch ganz gut… :-)

Welch Wunder: Stiegl Bier in allen Varianten gibts hier — und was ordentliches, teilweise etwas schweres zum Essen.
Der Garten lädt im Sommer zum gemütlichen Verweilen ein. Angenehmes Preis-​/​Leistungsverhältnis. Museumsbesucher erhalten auch Gutscheine fürs Restaurant.

Gelernt haben die dort leider nichts. Wir sind auch mit der Busline 1 rausgefahren. Dann sinnlos herumgelaufen, da gar nichts ausgeschildert ist! Ich wollte schon gar nicht mehr, nur meine Frau holte sich die Freibier-​Coupons. Das Goldbräu ist natürlich lecker und der Innenhof ist lauschig.
Aber das Essen ist touri-​mäßig und absolut nichts besonderes. Da es das Bier überall zu kaufen gibt, muss ich da nicht wieder hin…

Empfehlung! Super Preis-​/​Leistungsverhältnis. Leckeres Essen, freundliches Personal.
Ein Tipp ist auch der Besuch des jährlichen Maibaumfestes.

Wer sich für Bier interessiert ist hier goldrichtig. Nach der Tour durch die Brauwelt gibts dann Bier zum Verkosten. Eine gute Ausflugs-​Idee für regnerische Tage.

Managed to find this place by following a map very closely, although it was a bit tricky. Snow was on the ground and by misreading the sign my ex nearly convinced me the place was shut! But no it was simply morning and we were the first visitors.
This is still a working brewery so the little beerhall where you get your three free beers at the end had a couple of working guys hanging around refreshing themselves.
The exhibition was very good and informative, with english translations, and I learnt stuff about the difference between barley beer, rice beer, oat beer and so on, and how hops is just a flavour, and how germany had beer very similar to our own until artifical refrigeration took over in the late 19^th century when everybody switched to lager, whose popularity spread like wildfire. Previously lager could only be made in mountainous districts in the winter, because ice was an essential part of the bottom brewing process to kill off the yeast. And all lager used to be incredibly fresh, because it only lasted for 3 weeks or so, which is another reason why it wasn’t popular throughout germany; it couldn’t be transported. New filtering systems put an end to that.
There was one of those horrible walkways near the top of the museum that you can see through, so that made me feel a bit shaky. I think the best place apart from the brewing bits was the old museum full of memorabilia and video displays. I seriously want to go to the place in france that offers beer baths and beer massages, while you drink beer.
I bought a huge bottle of fastenbier, the stuff the monks brewed to help them survive fasting, that all the little breweries still make. i include a photo of the tremendous bottle.
We were there in March, I suspect this place gets very busy in season; Salzburg is one of those towns that shuts down half the year, which explains why they can keep it looking so nice.
And you really must try Stiegl; the Austrians’ strict food purity laws mean that this is the freshest, tastiest lager you will ever have. If it’s good enough for Mozart it’s good enough for you. They also sell it in the King Charles pub in King’s Cross but they charge £3 a bottle which is insanity. And it doesn’t travel well. Draught Stiegl is now also available from Imbiss restaurant near Marble Arch; they sell Weizen Gold as well. RUN THERE

Brauwelt is housed at one of Salzburg’s oldest and biggest breweries, Stiegl, and is basically a museum all about beer. It’s enormous and covers the entire process of beermaking, the history of the Stiegl brand and brewery and all other interesting facts about beer. The exhibition had a good mix of old fashioned staged scenes and interactive mixed media stuff so you could take the kids and they would have lots of buttons to press
It costs about EUR9 to get in but I think we used our invaluable Salzburg cards to gain free entry. We also got a free gift on the way out from the gift shop but not before trying out some of their speciality and seasonal beers (not included in the ticket price, I’m afraid) in the pub/​restaurant there.
We spent all morning there and left in a suitably merry state with a little bit more knowledge about beer in our heads and a couple of steins in our pockets (and, yes, some beer). Very good.
