Why on earth would anyone in Salzburg, Austria want beer from Ireland(that’s not even Europe) when so close to Bavaria Germany is totally beyond me. Tons of people from all over the world but I didn’t have the heart nor desire to walk around and try to explain to everyone that«DUDE, you are the closest to the best beer in the world ever in history from Bavaria Germany just a short drive north» but whatever.

Salzburg has very few bars, so there isn’t many to compare against. However, after a day walking forever, having eaten all the cake in the world, O’Malley’s is a decent place to grab a drink and socialise with virtually the entire city.

On a recommendation, and figuring you can’t go wrong with an Irish pub no matter where in the world you are, we walked past a poster advertising, «the craic’s great!» and popped in for a pint(yay, cider!). It was relaxed when we arrived, but before we knew it, the place was packed and craic’n. As seems to be the case with Irish bars, we soon made friends with fellow drinkers in our proximity(thanks in large part to my buddy Rey’s drinking suavity). This particular adventure included students from Italy, Finland, Cuba, and Poland. There’s a review in German saying«too many tourists!», and I think that may be true — but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, is it? I mean… we English-speaking travelers often find ourselves in Irish bars because we sorta know we’ll end up meeting likeminded folks(who probably speak English). Great craic indeed, poster. Truth in advertising.

A great place in Salzburg for a beer and a most definitely for a GREEN beer on St. Patrick’s Day.

Of course there is an Irish Pub in Salzburg! of course it is called O’Malleys, of course it is dark and cozy and the beer is cold and awesome! The waitstaff is a fun bunch that make your experience even more memorable, if you can remember anything by the time you leave. Great fun ambiance, lubricated with some good dark Irish beer — YES !!!

After a trip to the Frequency FM4 Festival in 2006 I found myself in Salzburg for a day and a half. With the festival over the Thursday and Friday of the opening day of the Premier League season I located O’Malley’s as somewhere to get a pint and watch a Saturday 4pm kickoff game. It was great. I spent far too long in here that day and even came back when it was packed around 11pm with two americans I met on my day’s drinking by the riverside on the stretch of bars that O’Malley’s is based within. Typicial Irish/English pub for UK visitors showing all the sports you can handle along with Stew, Fish and Chips and more. Worth a homesick pop in during a break away or a trip during a riverbank all night drinking session in Salzburg.

I have been here about 40 times over the years and have NEVER failed to leave drunk and happy. It gets crowded but is so spacious that you still have room, that and its on a block filled with bars. The staff is all irish(well save for one aussie but i think she left) the owner is great. It opens relatively early which is great when you are on holiday and its right next to the main bridge and is down from the castle. This place is a MUST and writing this review is actually making me homesick for Salzburg(even though its not my home)
