Earth’s General Store

This little health food store is awesome. They have tons of options for the healthy eating fanatic. The staff that works here loves their jobs and are extremely nice and helpful. My favorite thing about this place is the delicious freshly made foods at their café. It’s ALL good there, but the daily wraps and the zen salad are my favorites. The dressing for the zen salad is so freaking good you almost want to drink it! You can’t go wrong here.

So I don’t visit here terribly often, but I was pretty pleased with the selection of food that is available on my most recent visit. I was there to attend a pop-​up lunch hosted by the Alder Society which was a SalvgED event focusing on the use of ingredients that would have otherwise gone to waste, and I do love how this grocery store location is supporting local efforts with regards to food security such as this one. The food at this event was marvelous and the store was quite busy on a nice bright summer’s day. The aisles were well-​lit and included a good array of food options. I would definitely contemplate stopping here to pick up a thing or two in the future or even just to attend another pop-​up if my experience continues to be this positive.

I love this store. if you’re downtown you must go check it out. Lots of great organic produce, products, and supplements. Prices are fairly reasonable and staff have always been really friendly and helpful. I LOVE love their vegan wraps and sandwiches, the hummus is awesome and super good soups and salads. They have monthly sales too! It’s just a really amazing local business in the heart of downtown.

Wow, I can’t believe how great this little store is! Whether you want to grab something for lunch, or need to pick up some organic produce, this is a super convenient location!

I came here specifically for a pop-​up lunch on Friday hosted by the Alder Society. The event was called SalvagED and focused on a short menu that was made with ingredients that would’ve normally ogone to waste. I ordered three different main selections, two of which were vegan. All three of the items really impressed and were full of flavor! I ordered the roasted carrots with beets and mole sauce; the blue corn masa tart with potatoes, onions, and a garlic chipotle sauce; and lastly, the veggie phyllo with peach chutney. All three items were excellent and executed well! The going price for each main item was a suggested donation of $ 5. They also had a selection of two desserts which I did not try but sounded amazing: mixed fruit tart with chantilly cream and almonds; and a fruit popsicle.
It would’ve been nice if there was more seating outside. I was dining by myself and got there before the lunch rush. But when I went out to grab a seat at the larger table, one lady sitting there had already claimed all the empty four seats; whilst the other two tables were occupied with one person each already. I had to find an empty bench nearby where I could eat my lunch.

This location’s sprouted lentil hummus has become a staple in our household when we want something a little less garlicky than a more traditional Lebanese hummus. The 100 Mile Salad is also fantastic — full of local grains, pulses and other healthy things.
And they also have a great selection of cold drinks. My wife is addicted to the Steaz tea and I’m always keen on their Kombucha selection. They also have a great selection of cold pressed juices.
Unlike the Whyte Ave, location, this location stocks organic meat.
Prices here are significantly better than at Planet Organic for produce, and the quality tends to be higher, as they only sell produce that is in season, or acquired from a location where the produce won’t spoil before it reaches Edmonton.
Make sure to remember your re-​usable bags.

I have never really been fond of organic food due to the cost and the fact a part of me has always thought some of that cost comes from the fact it is so «trendy» right now. I had the opportunity to chat with a fellow who works at Organic Box recently however and thought I was opening my mind to the idea a bit but after the service experience here I feel like im ready to slam the door shut again.
The selection I felt was decent and while the prices were of course higher than non organic foods at bigger stores I still felt they were reasonable. I came in today after visiting the farmers market to see if they had anything to drink as I was feeling the effects from the heat outside. I grabbed a Steaz green tea beverage out of their back cooler and went to pay only to encounter one of the worst cashiers I have ever experienced.
She was far too busy flirting with a gentleman who just bought some fruit to acknowledge me, greet me, or even look in my direction as she was serving me. I am honestly impressed with the fact she was able to take my money without ever removing her eyes from her new man friend. I guess they are doing so well there that they don’t need to worry about giving every customer the same level of service and attention. That’s great as they won’t be seeing me as a customer in here again.

Though I live closer to the south side Earth’s General Store, I’ve visited this location a few times. The store is your typical independent grocery store, with fresh produce, grocery items, dairy, etc. Many organic and local products are featured, some of which are difficult to find elsewhere. As mentioned in other reviews, compared to the south location this store is geared more towards food items. It contains a deli (not available at the south location) which sells the most amazing lentil hummus. OK, so the trips I’ve made to this location were pretty much just for that hummus.
On the plus side, this location is tidier and does not feature the weird smell that the current and past south locations have. The downside is that this location does not carry the same extent of household items, books, and some of the other niche products.
I love Earth’s General Store and this location is great lunch stop when I’m in the downtown area!

I was really excited to hear Earth’s General Store was moving into the downtown space left by Pangaea and taking over their yummy deli. Although I live on Whyte Ave I felt it was worth making a special trip down there every few weeks to support the growing business in a neighbourhood that hasn’t been kind to grocery stores. Unfortunately I have never had a great experience here — the staff and owner are indifferent at best, the produce is mediocre and the prices are expensive… comparable to Blush Lane or Planet Organic (where you can get MUCH more variety) and in some cases even more costly! I don’t mind paying more for a great environment and hard to find products but this just isn’t the case here so I guess I’m going back to Planet Organic for the stuff I can’t buy at the local farmer’s markets.

Snazzy downtown vegan options and great staff who are a «best-​of» compilation of my favourite places to get food. You know who you are.
The juices are delicious; keep it up! I would like to see more deli selection and I am not talking meat cold-​cuts. I am talking substantial vegan grub. I’m talking rib stickin’ kind of eating. For example, saucy bowls of greens and beans, lasagna, and warm baked goods. You should always have the breakfast bagel available at all times. Not just breakfast because they are that good.
I’m pinching my nickels to save up for that $ 20 gram of cashew cheese you got there. You should keep it under laser protection.

The new downtown Earth’s General Store is a fantastic addition to the always fun 104^th street area. While their old location is a great reflection of the Mill Creek and Whyte Ave clientele, the downtown location appeals more to the downtown working crowd and the people living in the apartments lining 104^th and the surrounding area.
The downtown Earth’s General Store is a welcome addition to downtown, offering fresh produce and bread as well as all kinds of frozen options for vegetarians, celiacs, or any array of people with dietary restrictions. It also offers a great deli that features fresh sandwiches with all kinds of delicious and sometimes unconventional ingredients. On my most recent visit I was treated to a tasty sandwich featuring a flavourful combination of coconut tempeh and roasted parsnip. If that sounds too adventurous for you, they also frequently have sandwiches featuring falafel, fresh veggies, tasty spreads and other organic ingredients.
EGS’ deli also features fresh soup, salad, baked goods, juice, cereals and more! There are a deceptive amount of options in the small store and the variation makes it a wonderful go-​to place for lunches that are healthy, relatively affordable and sustainable.
The downtown EGS is a welcome replacement to the Sobey’s on the corner, functioning as both a useful grocery store as well as a great deli. It seems like it should blend in nicely with the existing spots on 104^th and appeal to the hip downtown crowd but they will need to remain innovative and engaging if they want to survive downtown. While the staff at this location is as friendly and enthusiastic as their Whyte Ave location staff, it might be important for them to provide a little bit more information about the store or about the selection. While most people going to the Whyte Ave spot are well-​versed in the EGS ways, the pedestrian traffic and casual lunchtime crowd might need a little bit more explanation from the staff. The unconventional ingredients and selection at the deli might appeal more to a curious passerby if one of the friendly staff took a more active role in explaining the daily selection. This is really no fault of the store itself but I’ve noticed a few perplexed individuals stare at the menu before quietly moving on.
The new Earth’s General Store is a great addition to downtown and it becomes a community staple like their Whyte Ave location. It’s a fantastic store with friendly staff and an excellent deli but could use a little bit more adjustment for their new clientele.

Clean, and organised with friendly and helpful staff. I buy some of my produce here, and I buy a lot of my bulk shopping here. They do tear weights and I think this is fantastic. This not only allows but encourages people to bring in their own containers or bags for bulk shopping. Their deli is also very delicious. Wonderful store, definitely worth checking out.

Awesome new store downtown on 104 Street. I really like the layout of the store, it’s much more open and brighter than the Whyte ave location. Nice produce and tons of great organic products. The deli area is fantastic with ready to take away food — soups, sandwhiches, salad, ect. The sprouted hummus is sooo good. I had always got my hummus from the downtown farmers market but since I discovered it here, I’m addicted. The staff are really friendly and always helpful. A great addition to downtown Edmonton!

A downtown location of the popular organic, natural, and fair trade store. The emphasis here is more on food, produce, and café items (soups, salads, and sandwiches in particular) more than household items, although you can still find hair and skin care, soaps, reusable drinking bottles, and a smaller selection of pretty much everything you can find at the Whyte Avenue location. What you can get here that you can’t get there are fresh, delicious vegetarian and vegan light meals that you can enjoy in the store or take away. I was eyeing some of the sandwiches and dips in particular. There is also a fairly substantial produce section, and refrigerated and frozen food section. The space is bright, clean, and is more hipster than hippy (in contrast to the Whyte Avenue location, which is more hippy), which can be attributed to the trendy 104 Street location. Worth checking out for anyone interested in a sustainable lifestyle.
