First time me and my son ate here we liked it!!! The best sushi place in the New Westminster area. The food is good that this month alone we are here 3 times already. Highly recommend it to everyone!!!

Excellent sushi restaurant with a unique menu. The décor is very basic and not very upscale, but the food and service were awesome. I’ll be back.

We stopped by here for a snack while in the area. Server greeted us right away. We were the only customers after 2pm on a weekend. We received some complementary edamame so that was a nice gesture. The food was good for what it was. Our server was very attentive at clearing plates and refilling tea.

Tried this place out the other day for lunch. Very good food, and reasonably priced! Give it a shot!

A huge disappointment. I followed a Unilocaler’s recommendation and ordered the spicy salmon sashimi and spicy salmon rolls. I can eat spicy just fine but there was so much chili sauce there was a lake of it on my plate and it drowned out any flavor there was. The avocado roll had brown spots as it was past its best by date. They even messed up the miso soup and how difficult is that! It was lacked any soy, vegetables or flavour at all. Any place where they serve such crap doesn’t deserve my money.

I’ve been here twice now. The first time I came here last year, I really enjoyed it, so I thought I’d come back again to do takeout lunch. They have a decent lunch special for 8.99 — choose 2 rolls(from a selection), miso soup, and a small appetizer. I picked up the dynamite roll, spicy salmon roll, and the agedashi tofu. I was most disappointed with the salmon roll. Its definitely spicy, but it couldn’t mask the fact that the fish wasn’t fresh, and its made up of diced up fish scraps. I pulled out the red mush, and tried to wipe off the spicy sauce — what was left was the brown bits of the fish(between the red flesh and skin) plus fish mush. They’re essentially feeding you leftover scraps. No way am I paying for that again. The agedashi tofu was really hard, and got stuck in my teeth. I thought the dynamite roll would at least be my saving grace, but while it was fine as a roll, other dynamite rolls from other restaurants have 2 pieces of tempura in there. Whereas this one had 1, and lots of the crab meat. Anyhow, I’m not tempted to come back to this place, and in fact a bit confused by the 4 – 5 star reviews here. Maybe its the best in downtown New West, but I’m staying away. The best sushi place I’ve found in New West so far is Ikoi Sushi — not quite downtown new west, closer to the Bby /Coq border. Ikoi is Japanese owned, the food is tried and true and consistent from day 1 — its worth coming this way for good quality sushi!

This is my go to place for columbia street area sushi(and theres a lot of them nearby). It’s a korean owned sushi shop so quality wise it’s about average or slightly better, but its a good value and fresh tasting. I probably wouldn’t go too far out of my way to go here but if you live in the area it makes for a good weekday lunch/dinner. Also the service is fantastic.

Love it here. Great staff, good prices and good sushi! I’m generally not a fan of miso but I like theirs! Sushi in pic was I believe the HI California roll(huge and they are right!) Happy to have this place downstairs!

They need a liquor license to bring me back in… I like sake with my sushi. I’d give it another shot if that happened but really everything was just OK. There wasn’t a destination dish.

Hi Sushi is in a really random location right across from the New Westminister skytrain station. You wouldn’t know it was there if it weren’t for a quick search for sushi in the area. The first time I came, we got take out(dinner for 2 combo which came with a LOT of food for $ 29) and were really impressed with the quality of the food. We came back later to actually enjoy a meal. The food was still as good as I remembered. I got the salmon nigiri combo which came with a selection of salmon based nigiri(including regular salmon, smoked salmon, tataki, spicy salmon, and a few with different seasonings that I couldn’t quite figure out). For a salmon lover and at $ 10, I enjoyed the variety that came on my plate. Each piece did have a little too much rice which threw off the balance between rice and fish. My dining companion got the beef teriyaki bento($ 10.50). The beef was really tender and flavourful. All in all, a very filling bento box. If dining there, the only thing to be aware of is that they have very poor ventilation. I left the restaurant smelling like deep fried. It was in everything — my clothing, my hair. Definitely not something you want after a good meal. Next time I’ll probably stick to just ordering take out again.

This little gem is hidden on the shady streets of New West. High quality sushi, wonderful & friendly staff, and little cute doodles on your take-out boxes. The price is relatively cheap for their sushi quality. They offered me tea for when I sat in to wait for my take-out, and I got miso soup on the house with one of my bigger orders(~$ 15). What more can you ask for?

I have been a regular patron of Hi Sushi since it opened its doors. Great staff, fresh food, aesthetically pleasing. I really enjoy it. Husband often accompanies me now when he can. My favourite is house salad, avocado roll and kappa roll. Hubby’s fave is Chicken Bento. Anyway we can walk there but when we choose to drive we go down to the strip mall approx 1 block away and park there free. It is a short distance. Or one can paypark across the street under New Westminster Station.

I don’t like posting things that could potentially hurt a business but I just had to share my experience today. My daughter saw a homeless guy picking an apple in the garbage can. So I went outside and asked him if he wanted some soup since we are at a Japanese restaurant. He said yes that would be nice, ordered him chicken teriyaki and soup. Little did I know that the owner just told his staff that the homeless guy is not allowed to eat at the restaurant. I understand that some homeless person can be disrupted but this particular man was decent and quiet just sitting there just like everyone. HISUSHI on carnavron street in new Westminster you are not getting my business ever again after what I had witnessed and experienced. Homeless person or not he is a HUMANBEING! a little compassion especially in a cold weather helps.

Good taste! Good service! We ordered OMG roll, Outstanding roll, chicken karaage, tuna tataki and 2 miso soup and it was no more than $ 45. My husband and I were both pretty full and enjoyed the food there a lot! Will definitely go back again!

I am very picky with my sushi and by far the best sushi place in New Westminster. Friendly and fast service. Have had food in the restaurant as well as ordered take-out. They always draw cute little cartoons on the takeout boxes Food always tastes fresh and the place is kept clean! Must have: spicy crunch roll and spicy salmon sashimi

Visiting in Vancouver, search a restaurant for lunch. HI sushi is really a good choice. Rolls and chicken are delicious. The staff is nice. The price is budget.

Following appointments in New Westminster recently, we(a threesome) decided to try Hi Sushi for lunch. This was a first time dining experience for us, and from what I had researched, we were anxious to give it a try. The restaurant is small(seven or eight ‘tables for two’ and two ‘tables for four’ — all which can be moved and arranged differently to accommodate other-sized groups, etc.), neat, and tidy, and a touch unique in interior design, when compared to other small sushi restaurants we know throughout the Lower Mainland(with its colours, and written sayings & definitions of terms on the walls — a nice touch we thought). Service was friendly and attentive. Once seated, we were offered menus, and tea came very soon after. Once we had ordered, complimentary miso soup(in good-sized bowls) and a dish of edamane(green peas) was brought to our table. We appreciated that. What we ordered, and how we enjoyed the food preparations and presentations: – appetizers: agedashi tofu(good-sized portion of tofu, the pieces crispy outside, creamy inside, in a rather ‘light’ sauce — tasty, but thought the coating was a little thick and greasy) — tako yaki(small dumplings w/piece of octopus in the centres — well-prepared/presented and tasty!) — gyoza(5 pcs, pork — tasty filling, but overcooked, coverings quite ‘leathery in texture) — tempura(assorted, w/two prawn and three veggies — tasted fine, and liked the pyramid-like presentation, but for me, veggies were a touch too thickly cut, and the batter a little too thick and greasy). – rolls: OMG roll(8 pcs, spicy salmon/tuna, and cucumber inside, fried yam, onion, and house sauce outside, fully-topped with fried ‘noodle’ — a fun-to-see presentation, and tasty(often spicy!), preparation). – sashimi: salmon and tuna tataki(seared, four pieces of each — decent presentation, but preparation lacking — could barely see or taste the ‘searing’, although the fish tasted fine, it lacked any taste«excitement» — this dish is a big favourite of mine, and this preparation did not live up to the had-hoped-for expectations). We liked the restaurant’s ambiance, and actually found it a pleasant touch unique and interesting. The service was perfectly fine — our server most-friendly, and always ready to assist. But it was the food preparations that have kept me from giving the restaurant a higher rating, and for me, that is the primary reason for dining out.

Another great find thanks to Unilocal! Hi Sushi is a cute sushi joint near New Westminster Station. The restaurant is bright and clean and the service is friendly. We came in on a Saturday at about 5:00pm. We were the only people dining in, but while we were there a few customers stopped by for takeout. Ordered the dinner for two. It was reasonably priced($ 28 plus tax and tip) and very filling. I almost couldn’t eat all of my half of the food. Nigiri was fresh and the tempura was nicely battered and not overly greasy. Great to find an awesome sushi restaurant in the area!
