I have been to this place a number of times for brunch and drinks and it delivers exactly what you expect in a pub. The food is nothing special but the friendly servers and the prices help! I had never really eaten dinner here and today my boyfriend and I ordered some meals for take out, we live very close. When his burger arrived it was cooked medium which would be fine if they had chuck that they mince in house but I wasn’t even sure that the patty was even made in house so that was a little worrying. My boyfriend did eat the burger so hopefully he will be okay, I will update haha. I had the Cobb Salad add chicken, the chicken was dry and very bland, no seasoning at all and the black pepper buttermilk dressing was watery and tasted of nothing but milk… yuck! Go to this place if you want a friendly atmosphere, to watch sports or a fairly basic brunch but I would probably avoid this place for dinner!

For what it is, it is great. Friendly and one of the few neighborhood pubs in the west end with character.

A couple of months ago my boyfriend and I popped in here for something to eat and a beer after visiting the Aquarium. I’m not sure why we chose this place out of all the things we saw on Denman but we were so glad we did. As we were arriving someone was setting up to play music —(this was a Saturday FYI). This ended up being Bob White who blew us away with his acoustic covers playing songs from artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, The Eagles, The Police, Pink Floyd and on and on. He is fantastic! So talented and funny! It really was. is a great way to spend an afternoon over lunch. He is the main reason we came back again recently.(We visited again this past Saturday and kept trying to leave but he kept playing antoher great song we loved and were there until he took a break). I’ve never been moved to tip someone before but I asked my boyfriend to give him whatever bill he had on him! As far as service, it was fantastic! Its rare when you order a drink and the Waitress brings you a water as well. I like when I get my water promptly after asking. I LOVE getting it without asking. Sometimes it seems like we had been forgotten but looking around you could see she was the only one waiting tables and it gets pretty busy in there. I hate when people jump to the conclusion the service is bad before having a look around. She was super friendly and helpful! The food was good especially the $ 9 flatbread special! I can’t remember what I had the first time but my boyfriend got that both times and he rants on about how good it is(I tried a bite the first time and I do agree it is good). The second time I only got a poutine and it was pretty decent as far as poutines go. I suppose my only complaint with the place was the beer on tap. It tasted kind of. blah. Like they haven’t cleaned their lines in a bit? Or maybe it was just the type of Whistler. Either way its a cozy, clean place full of friendly staff and regulars. We will becoming regulars on Saturdays for Bob White!

This place exists, and that’s about all that stands out for me. The service was okay, and the drinks were sub par. The thing that was really disappointing was the atmosphere. Kind of boring and rugged. Not date worthy. Dating Score: 1 out of 5.

New to the city so I went last night to watch football by myself. I really enjoyed my nachos that came with guacamole, salsa and sour cream(most places charge extra for guac). I was just drinking water and my server graciously refilled it for me several times throughout the night, and didn’t seem bothered at all that I sat watching the game without drinking or eating much. She was very friendly and attentive, even though she was clearly very busy. The food was affordable, they had the sound on for the game, and it had an overall great vibe. I will definitely be back!

Well — this is what Unilocal is for. Place should be 3 – 4 stars. Cheap beer specials most nights, good people watching from the window seats, food is hit or miss(but more often hit, and what the hell, it’s a bar), and usually a place without pretense or obnoxiousness. And the women that provide table service are uniformly pleasant and competent. That said, serious management problems here. Last call could be at 11 pm with 20 people still in the bar(if the manager is hung over), or at 2:00 am(if the manager is on a toot with his buddies). And it seems to be a personal affront to ask the manager to change a TV channel. Can’t tell if he doesn’t know how the TV control works, or if he’s just hostile in that way that people that hate what they do are hostile. Anyway, fair warning. Go when that guy isn’t around, go to one of the many, many other places around, or go watch this guy in action and marvel at what the words«hospitality industry» mean to some people.

Just caught the Silva vs Weidman fight there. What an upset. Place was relatively cheap and was conveniently nearby. There was a verity of food and the prices wheren’t half bad. Meet some cool people there that I actually enjoyed their company they weren’t slobbering drunk or annoying. Nice atmosphere and a nice place to grab a pint and watch an event. Only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is the service was slow and it was packed but what can you expect on a fight night?

After biking Stanley Park and walking for hours on an empty stomach, the bf and I were starving and looking for a good place to grub and catch the Sharks game. Somehow, after getting lost, we ended up at Dover Arms. It was crowded with Canucks fans as the day we were in town the Canucks were, ironically, playing against the Sharks. We ordered the classic cobb salad, cajun chicken fajitas, and of course a side of pulled pork poutine. The salad was plentiful and the fajitas were yummy, but the highlight of our meal? The darn poutine! Wish California had good poutine cause the poutine I’ve had before doesn’t seem to compare to the original! All-in-all, great service and a friendly atmosphere. T’was a great day for the Sharks as well since we beat the Canucks. After cheering endlessly for our team, everyone seemed to be staring at us. Oh the joy of being on enemy territory!

Nice little neighborhood bar. Good — convenient to Stanley Park — decent beer selection Not so good — friendly yet not attentive wait staff. I had to talk to two waitresses before I got a beer — no follow through. Yow — I am drinking — sell me another beer? Maybe, I was hear on an off day — who knows…

I haven’t actually been IN the Dover Arms Pub, however, the liquor store next to it is open on Sundays whereas most Liquor Stores in the West End are closed, so for this alone — I am a fan. Us ladies need our drinking fuel before we head out on our bikes to ride the seawall and ring-a-ling our bicycle bells and shout obscenities at people. This is the place we stop at. It is also worth noting that a block towards English Bay there is a 7 – 11 where you can get a slurpee to put the vodka(or whichever is your poison) into. If you see a pack of crazy girls zigzagging down Denman with lots of tattoos on bicycles — steer clear!

I come for the cheap beer and I stay for the cheap beer. If you’re lucky to grab a table by the window you can watch people as they stroll down Denman. The tables are old and wooden, they probably got them from the same suppliers as the Legion. Tucked away in the back room is a tv where hooligans yell absurdities as some soccer match is being televised. I quickly crept through the hooligans on my way to use one of the cleaner bathrooms I’ve seen at bars like these, good job. The blond waitress was very friendly and had this comforting vibe about her. She quickly hooked me up every time I was nearing the end of my pint. On Tuesday there’s $ 3.00 Whistler sleeves… yup that’s right $ 3.00. When I heard the price of pints I did a tiny scream too, it’s perfectly normal. Other days they are on special for $ 3.50…this is why I come for the beer. I didn’t eat as I was busy drinking. It seems some flies had also been drinking as there were about 5 of them that continually flew in a small square where the band would set up. We made a deal that if they stuck to their area and I stuck to mine we wouldn’t cause any problems, so long as they honour our deal i’ll be back.

Awesome little pub I discovered when I first moved to Van, and now live right by it! It’s more like a British style pub than most people in Vancouver will be used to, with it’s older crowd ‘regulars’ and typical pub fare. However it’s a decent atmosphere, especially if there’s a sports game on, with good beers on tap. They do a lot of the tasty Whistler ales, and pour what is probably the best pint of Strongbow in Vancouver(that costs under ten bucks at least!) The serving staff have always been attentive and nice to talk to, and always seem to be one step ahead when it comes to needing another beer. The food is actually really high quality for the price, with poutine that’s great for sharing, great pulled pork sliders and red hot spicy chicken wings. Definitely check out the $ 3 beer Tuesdays, and I’m sure you’ll be back!

This is very decent local pub, if you are in the West End. Not sure I would make the trek out here just to be here. The servers are friendly, and the food is decent. I like their fries and the burgers are decent. There are several TV’s to catch the games. This place has always placed emphasis on showing soccer. So good place to catch some good European/FA soccer games.

I really like this place! Decent greasy pub grub and a low key enviroment. The staff are all fun and treat everyone like the regulars. I can’t help but LOL at all the people complaining about the clientele or the décor, it’s a pub not a lounge/bar? HAH. Came here after a wedding and upon walking in a regular said to my husband(in a suit+tie) «hey buddy, there’s a dress code here!» while gesturing at his jeans and t shirt :) I love it here. Great place to watch sports, especially soccer.

An Ode to Dover Arms Some say you’re a dive and have no style Some say you’re awkward and don’t stay awhile But I know better, my dear Dover Arms You’re not my scene, but are full of charm Playoff season is when you shine Even for me, who drinks only wine You may be pricey with a small-town vibe But I like those things that are hard to describe With your odd older crowd and 90s rock feel I know what I’m getting when you serve me a meal So I’m telling you, the sayers of nay This dim little bar will change your day-to-day

Upon walking in I notice comfy chairs, a dim yet calming lighting. I appreciate the number & size of TV’s, as my hubby & I are sports fans. Menu has typical Canadian pub food with the option to upgrade your sammie’s side of fries to any of their poutine choices. The fireplace and dark walls, flooring, and ceiling add to it’s cozy feel! Great place to relax & enjoy the evening with a good friend. Food and service were decent, but nothing extraordinary. I enjoyed the atmosphere, so I will definitely be back!

First time I was ever really in there, I met this guy who was super friendly to me, and after a few drinks, he started to yell at me and call me names. I laughed it off, and the bartender told him to cut it out. I didn’t have any problems with him, other than him yelling at me… he WAS wasted. Just as long as he doesn’t go any further than that. So, yeah. Tuesday $ 3 beerz tax in? Come on! It’s way better here than the Cambie! And there’s no mice, the servers are friendly, and the food is tasty. What more can you ask for? A band on weekends you say? They got that too!

Great place to chill and have a pint. They have food that is well above average for pub food — I had a special that included a NY Strip, grilled prawns, vegetables and mashed potatoes — and it was uncommonly good. The prices are a bit high in general but about par for the area — $ 6 for a pint of Granville Island Lager, and entrees in the $ 10 – 15 range. The aforementioned special was $ 13, and worth every penny. They also have live music on weekends, which I caught the first few minutes of last Saturday.(wasn’t bad)

small town bar right on denman. i don’t know how old this place is but it seems like some of the people have been coming here for 20 years to play some keno, watch some sports and catch up with their best friends of 30 year over a pint or 2 while the wife is cooking at home. friendly server ladies, decent prices and good food. they changed the menu and don’t serve onion rings anymore but we were able to get the last batch, leftover from the menu change. good place to watch hockey and forget about the fact that you’re in downtown vancouver
