Alsur Café – El Born

Great food and pleasant staff. English wasn’t a problem very helpful waiter and manager. Get there a little early for outside seating with a large party. Lots of room inside with comfortable seating. The Clara beer was great excellent chicken soup and loved the guacamole with plantain chips.

We went to Alsur to drink a coffee.
When we arrived we said hi to a waiter who ignored us and left. So we just sat and waited for someone to take our order. About 15 minutes later, with 3 waiters totally ignoring us, though they kept passing in front of us, and one of the waittress spending time with her boyfriend, we finally left. Unacceptable.

Love the interior design with light bulbs hanging across the laptop area where one side has a row of single sofas with mini tables and the other side has benches with soft pillows. It’s a nice place for an afternoon reading, doing works on the computer (free wifi available), or just spending time with friends.
I had a brownie waffle with cream chesse (₡6.90) and freshly squeezed orange juice (₡3.95) for my lunch. I have been wanting to try their waffle since I saw it on the Instagram a month ago, and it’s definitely worth for the trip. The waffle-​shaped brownie is warm, soft and with a strong chocolate flavor. The cream cheese and the strawberries on top complement the sweetness of the brownie. However, it still gets a bit too sweet half way through.
The staffs are nice and welcoming, although it does take awhile for them to take your order. Overall, it’s a café with good food and nice atmosphere!

Me encanta el diseño interior con las bombillas colgando a través del área para portátiles donde un lado tiene una fila de sofás con mesitas, y el otro (lado) tiene bancos con almohadas blandas. Es un buen lugar para leer por la tarde, trabajar por los ordenadores (wifi gratis disponible), o solo pasar el tiempo con amigos.
Comí un gofres de brownie con queso fresco y tomé un zumo de naranja natural para almorzar. He querido probar sus gofres desde que los ví en Instagram hace un mes. Definitivamente vale la pena el viaje. El brownie en forma de gofres es calentito, blando y con un fuerte sabor a chocolate. El queso fresco y las fresas por encima complementan el dulce del brownie. Sin embargo, todavía resulta un poco demasiado dulce después.
Los camareros son amables y cordiales, aunque tardan un poco en tomar el pedido. En general, ¡es un café con buena comida y un ambiente agradable!

Wow, the hamburgers are amazing and the draft beer is silky smooth and perfect with a juicy grilled burger. Recommended! Downside: dirty toilets…

I heard a lot about this place as one of the go-​to places in El Born. It is located in a nice street and is one of the larger cafes in El Born. It has a nice atmosphere with lots of seats with a lounge area, a laptop area, and an outside seating area. The laptop area is decent for working and is considered the self-​service area where you go up to the bar and order, then pick your own table. The café is air-​conditioned, but it is not particularly strong and won’t exactly cool you off during a hot day.
The laptop area is decent for working, as it is generally quiet even with music playing in the background. There is both a couch area as well as round tables with stools that are slightly uncomfortable. Free wifi is avaliable, but you have to check in on Facebook or use your email. If you don’t want everyone seeing you check-​in, just switch to the post they make you post to be visible only for you. Unfortunately, the internet is kind of slow, but it is usable for the most part with no drops as far as I know of. There’s practically no outlets.
The coffee is mediocre. I ordered the Banana Toffee Mocha, but it honestly just tasted like chocolate and coffee. It was a bit too sweet, but in general I can’t really tolerate sweet foods. The café con leche was average too. I also came here earlier and got a mojito which was below average. The prices were average for most coffee shops with seating areas. I haven’t tried any of the other drinks, but they supposedly taste better.
The services is okay. Because they bring the drinks to you, there’s usually waiters moving about. In the self-​serve area, it takes awhile for tables to get cleaned up because they have a large amount of area to cover.
The bathrooms look nice but they have graffiti and scratches like most public restrooms. The toilets are shaped really weird, however, and there are no paper towels. When I was there, there was a chip on the toilet and the hand blow dryer was not working.
Overall, although it took a decent amount of time to get the internet working, this place is decent for working. No wow factor, but I’d come back just for a place to work as I have not found another place with wifi and lots of seating.

Spending a month in Barcelona on holiday, this has been my go-​to café for a bit of writing and the occasional brunch. Great drink/​food, great atmosphere, and a very friendly and welcoming staff.
Typically, I’ve gotten one of their refreshing and delicious special iced teas, but also enjoyed their iced coffees in the past.
Free WiFi and ample seating, indoors or out.

I had brunch here and a herbal tea. It was quite good. I am writing this review a bit later but i still remember i that tasted like. You can even sit out side if you like.

Fuimos un domingo por la mañana a hacer un brunch y la experiencia no fue muy buena.
Buscábamos unos ricos huevos Benedict y lo que nos sirvieron distaba mucho de serlo: comida insípida, escasa, la salsa «holandesa» era mantequilla sin sabor, con jamón serrano saladísimo… Nada adecuado a los casi 9 € del plato.
La otra versión de huevos, más cara, con salmón ahumado, también dejaba mucho que desear…
En fin, que hay muchos y mejores locales para poder disfrutar de un buen brunch.
El local es muy bonito por dentro, y resulta agradable estar en la terraza de la plaza, hasta que se acercan a todar músicos callejeros…
El servicio es bueno, aunque tardan bastante en atenderte. Según un camarero, defendiendo la mala calidad de los huevos, sirven cafés muy ricos. Yo no tuve la fortuna de poder probar si era cierto o no.
Así que ya sabéis, debe ser un sitio para tomar café y no un brunch.

Bön wifi, ambiance calme (idéal pour bosser quelques heures !)
La carte variée et plutôt healthy. Un peu plus cher que partout ailleurs quand même (4,50 euros le coktail de fruits /​3,90 la limonade).
La nourriture est bonne aussi ! Un réel plaisir d’y déjeuner le midi en terrasse (terrasse au soleil dés la fin de matinée et une bonne partie de l’après-midi) !

Me encanta la terraza para el verano y el imterior para los cocktails en invierno. Los fingers de mozarella no te los puedes perder!

Perfecto sitio para mantener una conversación, trabajar en grupo, merendar. La decoración es bonita, del estilo hippy-​chic que tanto se lleva ahora. Está dividido en dos partes, la primera, más informal, de autoservicio (los camareros te avisarán al momento, unas 24 veces más o menos), y la segunda parte, más elegante, con taburetes y sofas.
Las tartas están ricas, y los coktails son aceptables. Destacable el precio del mojito, muy barato, aunque no muy bueno.
Para mi muy recomendado!

En week end à Barcelone en tête à tête, on rejoint une amie un soir, pour boire un verre. Elle est à Barcelone pour un stage de plusieurs mois et connaît bien la ville.
Elle nous emmèné donc à l’Alsur, pour une soirée Mojitos. Un bar un peu excentré des autres endroits bien plus touristiques. Celui-​ci est donc parfait, bien plus typique.
De délicieux mojitos pour 3 euros 50 seulement !! Hyper bien dosés, pas trop sucrés… On en prend 1, puis un 2e, un 3e… La soirée se passé dans une ambiance très chaleureuse, on profite, l’endroit est très sympa, la déco est jolie, on est bien installés… et on savoure ces délicieux cocktails payés 3 fois rien…
on reste jusqu’à la fermeture, avec les derniers groupes d’amis qu discutent et qui rient… On est bien, avec cet esprit espagnol convivial et chaleureux ! :)

Alsur is one of the best cafes in Barca for co-​working, with its huge self-​service area with tables aplenty and comfy couch seats. It boasts free wifi using Social Wifi, which means yes, everyone will see you checking in on FB each time you log on.
The coffee is average, but they make up for it with amazing iced teas. The proper lunch fare is tasty but a bit pricey; going at lunch for their ‘menu del dia’ is the best option, with a drink, dessert and coffee for only 2 euros extra.
Although table service is a bit less conducive for disappearing into your work, there’s some great people watching to be had at the tables inside along the windows.

Sitio normal, local bonito de ambiente agradable, sin embargo, falta algo. Es un espacio frio, estandar.
El servicio es correcto, y como punto a favor tienen terraza para cuando hace buen tiempo. No comi, pero mi mojito no fue tan bueno como para repetir.

my husband and I stopped by here for the free wifi and because they take amex — free wifi deserves a star & the amex acceptance also deserves a star. the beef empanada was good, but it came out cold in the center… gross. the chicken empanada was tasteless and also cold in the center. we also ordered the «smushed» eggs with jamon — decent but the price for it doesn’t justify. I would have given the place one more opportunity for a star in service but the service here is really lacking. all in all, it was unremarkable, won’t return here, but I was able to kill an hour here before dinner.

This place is perfect for people watching. It is located on one of those picturesque squares where street musicians play in the evenings, and people gather to sip some wine and just enjoy their time. Alsur offers some of the cheapest (and actually pretty good) mojitos in town (only 3,50 euros), and like I said, their terrace occupies one of the best spots in the neighborhood. The food is slightly different from the two other locations (one is in the shadows of Palau de la Musica, and the other is on Carrer Roger de Lluria), but it is not bad at all. What was in fact disappointing is the service. Very slow, lazy, and even rude to some degree. We were first attended by a girl who would not even bother greeting us, and then it took her almost half an hour to take our order. We did not feel like leaving for some time so we have decided to order food as well, and asked the other girl, hoping she would be at least slightly faster and nicer. A disappointment once again. I don’t think I would be returning to this Alsur Café, unless I would be searching for some nice place to drink in the area. Too bad such a beautiful place is spoiled by bad service.

Great place for breakfast! Good choice– muesli, granola, toasts, salads. Taste lemonadas and juices! Very friendly staff and great outdoor space. Highly recommended!

Buen sitio para ir a hacer un mojito por el Born acompañado de unas deliciosas tartas (no os perdais el pie de limon). Si lo que quereis es saladito, no dejeis de probar los tequeños con mermelada de tomate. El local es algo ruidoso y el servicio más bien malote, pero si vas a pedir a la barra te lo traen rápidamente… con esa tarta de limon, se lo perdono todo! :p

Sitio muy bonito, con sofás y mesas decorado en plan cill out con cortinas y divanes. El servicio horrible… Tardaron 30 min en tomarnos nota y porque avisamos a la camarera (estaba medio vacío), y encima era muy borde. El precio no está mal, los mojitos a 3,50 y el gin tonic de saphire 8e (aunque no estaba muy bueno).
Cuando fuimos a pagar, era otro camarero y también era muy borde.
El sitio en sí está muy bien decorado y es muy chic pero desde luego no pienso volver porque el servicio es pésimo…

Amazing tapas and cheap but great drinks (3.50 € mojitos!), definitely one of my favorite restaraunts from the week I stayed in Barcelona. Overall reasonable prices and lots of vegetarian options, and great food all around!

Servicio caótico. Es el título que le puedo dar a este local, en el que loa camareros danzan desorientados entre las mesas, preguntando si has sido tú el que has pedido la carísima ración que llevan en la bandeja.
Las raciones, de buena presentación, son escuálidas y demasiado caras para la cantidad que ofrecen. Cuando pides salmorejo te sacan gazpacho; al gazpacho no sé cómo lo llaman. No salí contento y a mí se me content con casi nada. No digo más…

Local de grandes dimensiones y cómodos rincones que más bien tiene un aire de pub. Sin embargo, nosotros llegamos un domingo tarde a merendar y en seguida vimos que igual te podías tomar un cóctel, que un té, que un trozo de tarta casera que traen directamente del horno de al lado (puerta con puerta), y que pertenece a los mismos dueños.
La chica que nos atendió era argentina, y tenían alfajores y dulce de leche en la carta así que obviamente puedes encontrar sus deliciosos dulces y platos de inspiración argentina en su carta. Nos sentamos en un rincón lleno de almohadones y con mesitas bajas, pero existen otras zonas con mesas más altas para cenar o comer.
Había hummus, ensaladas, empanadas, carnes etc. Nosotros pedimos infusiones variadas, una caña y un alfajor. Yo me había empeñado en un trozo de tarta de zanahoria pero no les quedaba, y eso que la chica fue a preguntar al horno (que ya estaba cerrado) a ver si por casualidad les quedaba algún trozo, pero mi tarta tendrá que esperar a una próxima visita. Nos gustó el sitio, la atención y estuvimos muy a gusto.
La única pega para mi fue que la música estaba muy alta para ser un domingo por la tarde, y casi no se podía mantener una conversación sin romperle el tímpano a tu amigo de enfrente. Quitando eso, es un sitio que recomendaría para tomar algo y por qué no, para probar sus delicias argentinas.

Si estás de turismo por Barcelona, este es el sitio perfecto para parar un rato y reponer fuerzas para seguir la visita. Asientos comfortables y una amplia gama de tés, tartas y bollería te recargarán las pilas. Además, el ambiente es muy acogedor, la música es de buen gusto y la atención muy amable. Lo malo es que para comer/​cenar me parece demasiado caro…

3 stars for «Esta bien». Not crazy about the food, coffee drinks, or the prices but the space is impressive for Barcelona and finding free WiFi is clutch. I did, however, almost give Alsur 4 stars for the bathroom…

Oh you make me salivate, you tarta de zanhoria at the Alsur Born…
I have lived back and forth between Barcelona and the States for years and I am a big snob when it comes to my Barna cafes. Why this place is worth the extra sheckels:
+ Star — Cake. Let them eat it… especially the carrot cake it’s crazy good.
+ Star — Cava by the copa. It’s not the cheapest in town, but hell’s yes it’s crazy drinkable. So, meh, why not buy a bottle!!!
+ Star — Hilarious bathroom. I have a laugh every time I see the round toilet bowl (in the ladies… not sure what the men’s is like).
+ Star — Tolerable staff. One gets very used to terrible Spanish customer service, but these folks here are all pretty nice and attentive. What a relief!
+ Star — Brunch! Yay! Very few places in Barcelona offer this and it’s nice to have it, but even better when it’s good. Try the eggs Florentine!
+ Star — Terrace. I love to sit out there and gaze at the locals. Be aware of pickpockets, here as all places, but generally you are pretty safe ;)
+ Star — FREE wifi! Nuff said.
Yup, you will enjoy hanging out here and whiling away the hours. Maybe you will come when they have live music (changes all the time the days and times). Or come on the day they have a new carrot cake out — cause it disappears quickly!

Mucho más grande que el Alsur que está frente al Palau de la Música y con la ventaja de que tiene una amplia terraza en una de las plazas con mejor ambiente del Born. Además, tiene anexo un pequeño café con tartas y postres suramericanos, para hacerle más honor aún a su nombre. Los jueves hay menú venezolano!

I bumped into this place taking the «interesting» route home. The Venezuelan and Argentine dishes first caught my attention. I soon discovered, thanks to their helpful staff, I was looking at the wrong menu. Sunday early afternoon features something a bit different, but I was still able to satisfy my craving with their nachos — plantains and guacamole.
That dish made an excellent couple. Crunchy and salty were paired with a touch of spice creaminess. Being outdoors in the Barcelona sun is great. If you don’t enjoy smoking, like me, choose your seat wisely. Also be prepared for overhearing fun topics from nearby tables such as «she’s such a slag» or «I don’t really know my father, grandma, please tell me more». It was a good time as I ate, listened, and read my Kindle.

I love both Alsur locations but this is one is quite a bit bigger with more sunny open space.
Barcelona is definitely not known for its customer service. But Alsur is an exception. The staff here is awesome. Speaks English. Very friendly and helpful.
And the food is fantastic and really fresh, good ingredients. I loved their avocado and shrimp salad and patatas bravas are perfectly roasted. And my boyfriend had the mini hamburgers and loved those too.
Pastries are great here. I now know what alfajores are and the ones they serve here are out of this world! The dulce de leche oozing out… yum!
Free wifi. And the café con leche is good too.
