Casa Calvet is more of an experience than really delicious food. The building was designed by Antoni Gaudi, which of course makes it a unique place to be eating. It is also fine dining, with fun touches like amuse bouches and a little cream dessert with coffee. The food itself was not all great. The Chickpea blood sausage appetzier was phenomenal. The scallops were awful. So maybe it just depends. You may end up with a great meal. Either way, I think you’ll have a fun experience! Be sure to make a reservation.

Went to a private party here with Facebook, Twitter, Google, Xtreme Labs. Such a great time, terrific drinks and loved the food. Neat property, place is probably older than any building back home in Arizona.

Great place to bring a date, romance someone, and have some pretty good food and wine. The menu changes constantly, so it probably doesn’t matter what I ate– I can just say, all of it was good, none of it was disappointing, and we left stuffed. It is worth noting that as some others have said, you WILL be spending a lot of time there…

First of all the staff was very friendly — my waitress was absolutely delightful and the rest of the wait staff were on top of everything. I really wanted to like this place and even waited a day to post my review thinking I was being too critical at first, but the reality is it just wasn’t what I would have expected for the price and the reviews it’s already received. One thing I really should have realized beforehand is that it attracts tourists primarily because it’s in Antoni Gaudi building with much of the original furniture and all the design details intact. As such, every table was filled with tourists — not a bad thing, just sets the tone that this isn’t going to be the most inventive of Catalan cuisine. Again — I should have assumed this from the start. The food was good, but not great. Everything seemed a little on the lukewarm side despite some of my plates actually being too hot to touch — didn’t make sense. Plus, I only had three courses and the dinner was still a two hour process which was far too long for what I was having. The starter was a salad that had a tasty yogurt dressing, but wasn’t anything to write home about. Next I had stuffed potatoes with shrimp: 3 potato halves! hollowed out stuffed with eggplant and a tiny shrimp on top of each… eh…I will say the apple tart tatin I had for dessert was quite tasty. Also, its definitely more a romantic dinner for two or even double date kind of place. I was dining alone and sat in the middle table in the middle of the room. I was basically every tables third wheel. It was slightly awkward, but had the food been up to par I could have had a spotlight on me and tuned them all out. If you really can’t complete a trip to Barcelona without seeing every Gaudi building open to the public then I wouldn’t stop you from going to Casa Calvet. Just keep in mind that this is his most conservative work(nothing like Casa Battló) and while enjoyable enough, with perfectly wonderful staff, you’ll be paying for the experience of dining in a Gaudi room more than the food you’ll be dining on.

This restaurant is lovely — it relaxed us even after we got lost walking there AND got caught in a thunderstorm(sans umbrella, of course) and were soaked to the bone when we walked in the door. The wine and food were both very good(we opted for the chef’s tasting menu), though perhaps more traditional and less inventive than at some other high end Barcelona restaurants. My favorite dishes were an entrée with monkfish and clams with a sherry reduction, and a parfait-like dessert with coconut and mango. A nice dinner to start our visit!

We opted for the chef’s tasting menu. The food was nice, but not on par for the price. Though the dining room is small, and there weren’t many diners while we where there, the service was quite slow. The experience was nice, but took about an hour longer than it really needed to.

The restaurant is one of the few homes designed by Gaudi. It is unlike any Gaudi design in that it is more contained. That aside the food here was amazing! Be sure to make a reservation as they do not take walk ins. This is NOT a touristy restaurant

On our first night in Europe we wanted to go to a nice restaurant. After a ton of research we decided on Casa Calver; partly because the menu looked amazing and partly because it was in a Antoni Gaudí building. Gaudí was a world famous architect who’s buildings look like they came straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. The pictures aren’t that great because I didn’t want to use my flash in such a fancy restaurant. Sorry! We started out with two starters meant to be shared. After we ordered they brought out this cream soup with rabbit. They make a soup every night and it’s included with your meal. The texture was great, very silky, and the added bonus of a little rabbit meat was great. The«Small plate of spider crab croquettes with guacamole and vegetable chips» had a strong flavor(spider crabs can do that) but were good. The star of the dish was the guacamole though, you could taste every ingredient in it. Amazing. The«Small plate of crispy tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese and black olives» was very good. It was wrapped in a thin crisp pastry and was like a little flavor bomb. The«Saddle of rabbit with tarragon and apple jelly and rice noodles with soya» was the best thing I ate in Europe and the best rabbit I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot. The sweetness of the sauce was perfect with the savory meat and noodles. The«Pistachio-crusted lamb chops, tomato garlic mayonnaise and vegetable terrine» simple but perfect. It was extremely flavorful. The«Apple tart tatin with cream ice cream» is a simple dish but when done well it’s unforgettable, this one was. The ice cream had a beautiful silky texture and the apple had more flavor in it than any I had ever had. Alisha ordered the«Guanaja chocolate cake with avocado cream and lime and mint sorbet». The cake had the perfect texture and was not too sweet and the mint sorbet was a great pallet cleanser. I was interested to try the avocado cream, because I had never had it in a sweet dish, lets just say I will again! It was so good, not too sweet but just sweet enough. Casa Calvet is one of the best restaurants we’ve ever eaten at, hands down. The food was amazing, the service was extremely hospitable and prompt(something some high end restaurants lack) and the décor is beautiful. If you visit Barcelona you must check this place out!

The dining room is situated on the first floor of Gaudi’s Casa Calvet(probably one of Gaudi’s more conservative works). The interior is beautiful — dimly lit with a grandiose, yet home-like ambiance. I selected Casa Calvet because it was my sister’s first time in Spain and I wanted her to experience something new and unusual. I was advised to book a reservation in advance, because on certain days it can be crowded. Although I did book a table, there were plenty of available tables as well. The wait staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. My party came in during siesta time, because we wanted to experience our larger meal of the day here. It was also going to be one of our treats along our tour of Spain because the plates are costly and can add up quickly. The food was prepared beautiful, it was tasty, but it fell short of my expectations. It gets major trend points, that’s for sure, but I just felt as though something about the food was lacking. Our group decided to share a few starters: croquetas de centollo(crab), jamon iberico, and pan con tomate. Each plate was delicious, although our table agreed that we had eaten better croquetas elsewhere on our trip. The wine we shared was good(a tempranillo blend), but it was not completely noteworthy. I ordered the squid, prawn, and artichokes with black squid ink sauce. It was delicious and fresh, albeit a little on the oily side. Although I truly enjoyed the texture and taste of the squid especially, I felt that I had experienced fresher squid and seafood at a fraction of the price at other restaurants in Valencia and the Balearic Islands. I also felt as though the preparation lacked the love and gusto so many of the chefs in Spain have for their food; it felt a little pretentious. For dessert, I ordered the cheese plate. I was expecting something the size of the cheese plates at a typical taperia restaurant, where everyone at the table could sample my cheeses as well. The slices of cheese were miniscule, even by my standards(and I’m a small, light eater!). They were all amazing though, just the taste was very satisfying. Arranged in a circular, clock-pattern, as one progresses in a clock-wise direction, the tastes and aromas of the cheeses become stronger and more pronounced. I also had the opportunity to taste some of the yogurt foam with fresh fruit, which was by far the best dessert anyone at the table had ordered. The overall experience was great and my party had a very enjoyable meal. I would not come back here though, because from a culinary standpoint, I would want to experience other highly-esteemed restaurants and see if they possess the charm that Casa Calvet lacked.
